Experienced a weird clicking sound when the steering wheel is fully locked either left or right, when turning at low speeds? Its more of a pop than click. No issues driving straight, or in regular turns, just when fully extended.
View 7 RepliesI have a UK 2006 Mk2 CDX+ which I was driving last night - seemed ok, got to our driveway, turned the steering wheel fully left so I could manoeuvre the car into the driveway when I heard a loud "clunk" noise.
I thought I ran over a bottle or something so carried on reversing, when I got out I noticed the car was parked diagonally! Thought this is strange, I don't park like that and tried again, a bit better but still not parallel! I then noticed the steering wheel was hard to turn, a grinding like noise is heard when I turned so I decided I would need to take into the local in the morning.
Started the car today and drove out and got immediate sensation that steering was not connected to the wheels, the SW was off centre by miles and turning left/right was very sluggish. Lucky the garage is only down the road (but it's not Hyundai specialist) from me as I would not risk driving it down main roads in this condition. Guy at garage asked me to fully turn the SW left to right and we can see that the front of the car actually moved during the process. He is going to take it up on the lift to look underneath.
I have 2016 camry 4 cyl have roughly 2300 miles and I'm noticing a click click while turning the steering wheel left or right while stationary and vehicle running sounds like it's coming from under the dash.
I've seen there is a tsb for other year camry intermediate shaft issue, my vehicle is lowered on eibach Springs and would hate to take back to dealer and have them blame it on the springs in a vehicle that has only 2,500 miles.
I have a 250 f-sport model, it's only around 1.2k miles, and I recently noticed a 'clicking' noise while making some turns. Would it have anything to do with the weather? I have been experiencing colder/rainy weather compared to the warm weather I was driving in when I first got the car... Weird 'click' noise? I feel like it's coming from the steering wheel column.... or am I just being paranoid?
View 11 RepliesToday, I just picked up my 2014 prius. Basically, when I do a right/left turn on the car, when accelerating out of the turn, the steering wheel does not fully return to the center position (its approximately in the one/eleven o'clock position). Also, if I leave the wheel straight, and drive straight, the car will drive straight and not pull towards the side so I don't think its an alignment issue. I'm not sure if this is normal, or if its happening just because they car is new or just because I'm not accelerating hard enough out of the turn (I always stayed in the eco range with the HSI. )
View 5 RepliesMy car (2014 IS250 F-Sport) has been making this weird noise thats hard to put into words every time the steering wheel is being turned to just before its maximum rotation. It sounds kinda like an old car driving over the speed bump. The noise only comes on in the first turn and then its gone. The car has to be moving at a very low speed too, I only hear it turning into my driveway (no bumps what so ever). Has absolutely no effect on the driving characteristic of the vehicle. What or where it might coming from?
View 8 RepliesA while back as I was driving, I heard some sort of clunk, and the steering wheel locked and would not turn left. It then unlocked after a few seconds. Ever since then, it has been very hard to turn to the left (and right, at slow speeds and on sharp turns, but much easier than turning left). This happened a few days after I replaced both front end struts and inner tie rod ends, and got an alignment - they were cheap quick struts (entire assembly), but seem to be of fairly good quality.
Initially after some consultation I thought it was the power steering pump, so I replaced that. It became easier to turn right, but still very hard to turn left. I took the front end off the ground and turned the wheel all the way left and right, no problem or resistance. I am nearly certain it is not the pump.
At this point, I am fairly certain it is either the steering gear or some part of the rack and pinion. I am planning on getting the assembly replaced. The fastest and cheapest way is apparently to just buy the entire steering gear/r&p assembly. Would bad strut mounts ever cause an issue like this? Any other possibilities besides the steering linkage?
Lat week I dropped my '04 V6 Touareg off at my dealer for some minor warranty work. On the way to the dealer, I noticed a weird noise and vibration whenever I turned the steering wheel. I mentioned this to the dealer when I dropped the car off. They called me later saying that there was a leak in the steering rack and the whole thing needed to be replaced. The car wasn't safe to drive, so they would provide a rental.
Today, I get a call saying that the steering rack finally came in, but that upon installing it they noticed that something connectet to the steering or front suspension (I can't remember what it was, tie rod perhaps?) was bent, probably from hitting a pot hole, and that therefore the replacement would not be covered by warranty. Needless to say, this will not be cheap.
I do not take my Touareg off road, and I don't remember hitting any pot hole so hard that it could have bent something. My questions are:
- Is this a known or common problem/issue with Touaregs?
- Could hitting a pot hole or something a long time ago cause a leak many months later?
The car is not starting, the Keyless entry FOB is not unlocking/locking the doors and the steering wheel is locked. I'm not sure where to begin. It doesn't make any noise when you press the button and a light says check VSC. Security light is blinking.

The noise isn't there (i think) when making a normal turn. No noise either when car is stationary when I crank full left/right. Are the CV joints dying? I find it hard to believe that both sides are dying and with such low mileage...
View 8 RepliesI have a 2008 RX 350 and I am experiencing issues with turning the key ignition and having the steering wheel locked. It gets locked and after several attempts at jimmying the key it eventually starts. My concern is that if I keep this practice up I will damage my key. I have addressed this issue to the dealership and I was naive and trusted them with fixing the problem with my last maintenance visit. Thinking the the problem was solved I started to experience the same problem again. I was first told that it is possible the my key chains are too heavy which could of caused the problem but I lightened the load and still have this problem. I've read about this problem with other people but there doesn't seem to be a solution.
One thing I have noticed is that I tend to experience this problem during the cold weather. During warmer weathers I don't have issues with the key ignition being locked but now that it's cold I am having the problem again (not sure if this has to do with anything). Do I need to change a part out to fix this? I've also read that there can be dirt in the ignition which needs to be cleaned out. Will this work and if so how do I do clean it?
While driving, a rapid clicking sound randomly comes from under and to the left of the steering wheel and the van concurrently has stuttered power. It still drives but is rapidly getting worse with frequency and we are on a road trip on the Oregon Coast with young kids and limited local mechanics. It seems like something as simple as a loose connection but before digging in to check electrical connections .....
View 5 RepliesThe leather on my steering wheel was peeling off and I brought it up to the dealer and out of their goodwill, they decided to replace it with a completely new one. Props to the dealer. However this is where all the problems start to occur. I drop off the car This past Sunday and pick up a loaner. I get a call the next day saying my car is ready. So I get there and everything seems good.
There's an open road that I like to take home but this is where I noticed something weird. When my steering wheel was level, the car was veering right.. I had to tilt the steering wheel a little left to go straight . I call the dealership right away and they tell me to bring it back. So I do that and pick up another loaner.
Following day , I go back to the dealership and they tell me they fixed the alignment. Now everything is good! I was yet again wrong. When I got home, I noticed my steering wheel was weird.
So taking the car back tomorrow to get this fixed! Still props to the dealer for giving me a brand new steering wheel..
Twice I have made this happen. It is a right turn at about 5 mph, there is bump from blacktop to pavers. I have my foot slightly on brake during turn. Then the front left wheel emits this rapid clicking noise until I nearly come to a stop.
View 3 RepliesI have had this intermittent clicking noise from the front left wheels. It sounds almost like a rock wedged in the tread but its not. I checked and the tire is clean. I inspected as much as I can see but see nothing abnormal. Any clue what the deal is?
I stared having the noise right after having the front left tire replaced and it seems to happen when the brakes are hot. I don't hear it in the morning or if I let the car cool down and drive it an hour or two later. My brakes are original rotors at 74K miles and the pads are probably in the 45K range . Not sure what the deal is but it drives me crazy when I can hear with the windows down ( I live in AZ its still in the 70s). I had an issue like this with my GS350 but cant remember what fixed it or what the issue was .
2008 R32 with 17k ... What might be causing this sound which is just a faint clicking clicking sound that happens intermittently when driving.
I have an appointment at VW dealer tomorrow but they do not want to take ownership as I have replaced the head unit and have steering wheel controls for my Alpine IVA 505.
It is not electronic as the controls are solid state and the can bus adapter is behind the head unit. It seems mechanical but what could it be? I definitely notice that at a stop when rocking the brake that create the start of the clicking sound .
The car is a 2.8L w/ a manual tranny. The car was making a rhythmic clunking and clicking noise around right hand turns on the left wheel. So when the weight of the vehicle is applied to the left, that's when the noise occurs. The car has been in the shop for 6 days and the technicians have replaced both axle shafts (it was time to do so anyway) but the noise is still there!!! What could possibly be making that noise other than bad CV's? The rhythm of the noise coincides with the rotation of the wheel/shaft which is where they have focused. Could it possibly be bad strut mounts? This is driving me crazy!!! They tell me its perfectly safe to drive (how do they know this when thy don't know whats wrong?) but I can't imagine this can carry on much longer without something breaking.
View 2 RepliesRecently picked up a 05 GLI with the bbs wheels. Last night i was driving into my parking garage and noticed a clicking noise comming from the back left wheel.
I lifted the car on that side and spun the wheel but it didn't make the noise. But once i set it back down and rolled the car the click came back. So i'm guessing it has something to do with pressure being applied to the wheel.
I have an issue with my new 2011 F150 FX4 super crew with 5.0. I put a Rough Country level kit on the front struts which raised it 2.5 inches and looks great. The issue is that there is a low speed knock heard on the left side and felt through to the steering wheel. The truck has been aligned to factory specs. all bolts have been tightened, the strut has been taken off to check the top mounting bolts. Nothing appears to loose. Can't find anything. Am I forgetting something. Rough Country said it can't be the kit. It has bee used for sometime with no issues.
View 14 RepliesI own a 2015 LX570 with just 8000 miles on it. Been having an issue with my steering position. Every time im on a straight road the car seems to be pulling to the left side if my steering wheel is placed exactly to the center. At first i thought it was an alignment issue as i took it several times to the dealer and they just tell me that there is nothing wrong with it and it drives accurately straight until one time a guy from the dealer came and checked it himself with me and realized the issue and told me that its not an alignment issue its something related to the the electrical steering position not being accurate (( that's what he said)). They took it in and made it accurate as they say, to be honest its not really accurate but much better than before until last week when it became worse and like how it was before, pulling hard to the left, its like if i want to drive straight i need to pull the steering wheel slightly to the right.
