Just did a brake job on my IS-F. Everything went smoothly for 50 miles, then as I'm pulling into the driveway I hear a horrible grinding from the front.
Disassembled everything this morning and it looks like the pads are in constant contact with the rotor. Is there a set screw I missed? When I did the brake job, I retracted the pistons slightly with a C-clamp, and did not bleed the brakes. What am I missing?
I have an early production 2008 2.0T 6MT. The car has just over 2000 miles on the clock. I noticed that early in the morning, when it's cold, pulling out of my driveway, I hear a clunk from the front end. It doesn't always happen. Also, on the highway, the car feels like it wanders left and right, certainly more than my old B5.5 did, and in general it pulls to the left and the steering wheel sits slightly to the right. I found the following TSB on this site: [URL] .... My question is, this TSB doesn't mention anywhere that an alignment should be performed as part of the service. Should that be done? I'm going to take it to the dealer tomorrow.
View 4 RepliesNoticed today in the snow, I was pulling out of the driveway in 2H and the rear tires broke loose, weird sound coming from the front end like the truck was trying to engage the 4 wheel drive but it wouldn't go in. Traction control? Threw it in 4H and the sound went away????
View 1 RepliesSo recently my car has been making almost a crunching noise in the front end of my car usually pulling out of the driveway or hitting any type of bump. But it doesn't seem to always happen. It's a louder crunch when it's colder out. It almost sounds like a rusty door being closed/opened rather then a crunch. My car has just about 77k on it and this is the only issue I have with it.
View 16 RepliesI have an APR stage 1+, HPPF, Carbonio intake. First thing EVERY morning my car will give a noticeable hesitation when pulling out of my driveway. After this 1 time event, the car rides perfectly. It happened every day. I was told this is gas pooling or some such issue.
View 11 RepliesI own a 2011 lariat with 500 miles. We have had several days of rain and I am getting alot of rust spots on my driveway always below and inside the right front tire. None in the rear or left front. Dealer said not to worry about it after they looke at the area. They said it is the new metal forming surface rust. There is a skid plate which seems to cover wherever the rust is starting. Should I demand that area be undercoated.

View 9 RepliesWent to leave the grocery store and as im pulling out I can't get out of 4th gear. After I got home I was able to work it into neutral and I can obtain 2nd, 4th and reverse but the throws aren't straight and it won't go into another gear unless you would force it. There is virtually no side to side travel in the shifter. What could this be? I drive my car hard but I've never missed a shift or grinded the clutch and I wasn't beating on it before it happened.
View 13 RepliesI've got a 2009 Azera with 58k. When I'm backing out of the driveway, I start to hear a low squeaking noise right as I'm turning the wheel. It happens right before I get a squeak I recognize as the breaks, so I know it is not that. It only happens when the engine is cold and typically the first or second time I try to turn at low speeds when I'm driving the car. I've had it also happen when I'm pulling out of a parking space at the garage at work.
View 2 RepliesMy '05 Elantra GT has done some weird stuff in the last few days: Losing complete power for a second when pulling out of the driveway two days ago, flickering headlights constantly, complete loss of power while trying to start last night, then suddenly everything started right up. Today, it lost power 2 times in about 10 seconds while I was sitting at a light on the way to work, but the motor never shut all the way off so it just restarted. Today at lunch, I turned the key and everything went dark. I pressed the brake pedal, the dash clock came on and then I was able to start the car. Bad Diode in alternator?
View 2 RepliesI had to raise the car a bit to clear the apr turbo outlet pipe. Raised a little too much and was hearing a clunking sound pulling into my driveway or speedbumps, etc. Contacted HR and they said the coilovers have an operating range and to lower them a bit. So.. i have about 3/8" of thread left on both fronts and my (not so scientific measuring method) fender/ground is 24" vs 26.25 stock as measured on a stock gti on my dealer lot. I still have a ton of thread to drop the car (about 1.5") as seen in the picture below. The issue i have is what the spring looks like. It rides fine in my day to day commute so its not noticeable but looking at it, it looks collapsed??
View 13 RepliesI just recently bought a used 2004 fx4 with 148k and everything appears to be engaging but front wheels not pulling. I've already replaced the IWE solenoid behind the battery to avail, my question is, when I put it in 4H, light comes comes on, but I don't "feel" the transfer case engage, when I put it in 4L, light on I feel it shift. So could the shift motor not be engaging the front driveshaft even though the lights come on?
View 10 RepliesA Little Background, my FICM wasn't bad per se but it would dip below 45 volts when the outside temp was around freezing. I pulled it and sent it for repair at the same time the Atlas 40 tune was loaded into the FICM.
First few days of driving mileage was better, truck ran great. All of a sudden one day pulling into the driveway it randomly shutoff. Two occasions since it has acted goofy at started, bucking a little a low throttle. Mileage has returned to how it was before I had the FICM fixed and ATLAS tune applied. To this point I had no codes at all.
Now today it randomly throws P0341 - Camshaft sensor out of range.
So heres the question - do I replace the sensor or try to get at the harness for inspection? Out of range would usually mean the sensor itself is failing while open circuit is usually wiring related. I know its uncommon for this particular sensor to fail but i'm not sure which direction to go.
Resealed HPOP, reinstalled, started right up, ran for good half hr, shut it down, started it next day, ran for 15 min. Revved it up, n all that, good to go, took it for a spin around block, died as pulling into driveway. At crank Dashcmd shows 200 psi on HPOP. I'm double checking the gear bolt right now. When I installed the pump I seated the gear by hand n torqued bolt to spec, so idk...
View 3 RepliesIt's like a tire grinding or shuffling at low parking lot speed, hard right or left turn, more evident when slowly braking during the turn. Dealership claims the negative camber contributes to this phenomenon and that nothing can be done about it.
I realize we have about a 1.5-degree negative camber in 2011-and on IS-F (I have no mods and still running with stock Potenza RE-050s), perhaps this contributes to the feel of the tires at parking speeds.
I was recently experiencing problems with my front brakes. It sounded like it was grinding on something (it doesn't screech) whenever the speed reaches below 15 mph. I called up my dealer to take a look and upon investigation they told me that i needed to do the front brakes job but they could save the rotor (they charged me around $300). Is this common ? It is a daily driven car and i mostly drive on highways. I drive the 2014 RWD IS-350 F-sport model and just recently hit 17.8K miles.
View 14 RepliesWife's 2010 F150 4x4 85000 KMs makes grinding / ratcheting noise in LH front axle when in 2 wheel drive. Mostly when turning left some times when traveling straight never when turning right. Never makes the noise when in four wheel drive. I am suspecting the auto hub is the issue but wonder if others have had this trouble ?
View 5 RepliesFirst off I have a 2009 F150 4wd 4.6L truck...we have noticed a grinding noise on the front driver side wheel...we have replaced the auto locking hub acuator and the hub assembly but the noise is still there....it has us puzzled now not sure what it could be. I have read many different threads on this issue an it seems that it might be something to do with the vacuum. The noise is only on the driver side and only in 2wd, when its in 4wd it doesn't make the noise at all. Also while in 2wd the noise seems to go away when we let off the gas.
View 5 RepliesJust installed new actuator and wheel hub assembly on my 2009 f150,truck still had grinding noise in front passenger wheel , New solenoid and vacuum hose kit installed when test drove noise still there until you put the truck in 4 wheel drive it disappears . The noise returns as soon as you take it out of 4 wheel drive. Also mechanic said steering was tight,installed new shaft same thing, could this be the rack and pinion.
View 5 RepliesToday I was out getting lunch in my Ecoboost When it started making an extremely loud grinding noise from the front end of the truck. My first thought was I blew a turbo. After holding the break and building boost I discovered it was not the source of the noise. Also the truck runs perfect and there is no smoke. I then took it to my friends auto shop and pulled both front tires off to check and see if anything break related came loose. We found nothing. The noise only happens upon acceleration or cruising throttle, as soon as you let off the sound goes away. So after I found nothing I took it to ford and what would cause that, but they assured me that they would have my truck for a long time while they figure out the issue.
View 14 RepliesI had my local race shop install my new PPE headers and how I have a rubbing and grinding sound while taking right turns. They have had the car for a few extra days and they say they cant seem to find the cause of the problem. It rattles on a pot hole, it grinds on right turns and sometimes vibrates on highway cruise control driving.
