View 2 RepliesI have only had my 08 F for a few months and it is due for an oil change in about 1K. Today the low engine oil light came on, so I checked it and indeed it was just below the low level on the dipstick. The light came on once before while I was parked on an extreme grade, and the oil level was fine. I have no evidence of any leaks. This doesn't seem as though it would be normal. By the way it took about 1/2 qt to bring it back to normal levels.
View 14 RepliesI bought a 08 isf a week ago and its not in a really good condition it has done 177k miles and its moded with a k &N air intake and nameless exhaust.. According to its performance it still feels like 5.0 v8 and it gets to 60 less than five.. However the engine automatically cut-offs during a full throttle on 2nd and 3rd gear (during drive) so i was wondering if this thing is normal or the previous owners have done some tuning to its ECU.
View 14 RepliesAbout a week and a half ago I took my 2008 ISF to Lexus to have them check out the ticking noise. My car has 63K miles on it and I notice the ticking noise after it is fully warmed up. I normally have just been driving it in Sport-Manual too. The sound seems to come from the driver's side fender well area and I hear it best when it is in drive in my garage or at a drive thru.
At first Lexus couldn't duplicate the sound even after driving the car. So I went to the dealership and drove the car about 10 mins for them to hear. The service advisor and a technician heard it this time. They had to call the regional Field Technical Service rep for direction on how to proceed. The FTS person recommend swapping the driver's side high pressure fuel pump to the passenger side to see if the noise followed the pump. I guess they've had problems in the past with the high pressure pumps on the LS models. I again went down to the dealer to drive the car and the noise stayed on the driver's side.
So earlier today i noticed this unusual noise coming from the engine bay. You cannot hear it if your sitting inside the car. Only time you can hear it is if the car is running and you happen to be standing in front of the car.
The noise isn't constant and tends to come and go. After about 6 plus tries trying to film it, I finally got a clip where you can hear it for a bit.

So I changed my oil today and added about 9.8 - 9.9 quarts. There was just a little left in the second 5 quart jug. I carefully added some oil while checking the dip stick frequently. I made sure the level was just at (maybe a hair above) the top dot on the dip stick. After that, I went out for a spirited drive.
Now 4 hours later, when the car is relatively cool, I checked the level again. However, the level is now significantly higher than before. It's definitely past the top dot, not by a lot, but definitely more than before.
I noticed my sound a few weeks ago but wasn't as loud as the videos I've seen. Didn't really bother me. I did notice today that the sound was a lot louder . The only thing that has changed is i had my oil changed over the weekend with mobil 1 5w-30 fully synthetic. Now I don't know if that could factor into the sound getting louder.
I am really hoping its just a cat and i can replace my headers and everything is good. i just got the car with 19k miles on it and do not have a warranty.
I have been worrying about "engine noises" for years and at this point if its something i can't fix without dumping thousands of dollars into it, then so be it. I am just going to enjoy the car too the fullest. Plus, once i get full exhaust, it will work with canceling out the ticking sound.
I took my car to get inspected today and it was rejected because of P0420 and P0430: Both Catalyst system efficiency below... My check engine is also on.
I have the full Meisterschaft exhaust installed (+midpipe) PPE headers and K&N intake. Whats the problem and how can I get this fixed so I can pass the inspection?
My coolant was right below the low mark (it was right above 1k miles ago so it has a slight leak, but haven't checked the bottom core yet, most likely its leaking there?) so overnight it sat and in the morning ive filled it to the high mark and upon starting and warming up the engine the coolant went back to right below low. It doesn't look like its leaking at least not anywhere that fast, is this normal? I gotta check later again while car warmed up etc to check level, but how can the coolant go from being at the high mark to right below the low mark?
Regardless the radiator had previously been repaird by the lexus dealership for leaks, where it should've been replaced. Luckily lexus said they will take a look and replace, but Id rather not go through the dealership.
Usually after I run the car in manual/sport mode, I begin to hear a high-pitched 'hissing/whistling' noise coming from the engine. It sounds like a vacuum leak. It is audible while driving with the windows down.
I am having problems pin pointing the source, but it sounds like its coming from the center block. What is the right direction to the leak? It starts exactly at 1500 and cuts off at 2200 rpm (while in gear). 1500 to 3000 rpm while in park..
I have a Takeda intake installed and I re-tighten the fittings.
I have a11 isf with 38k on it. The other day the check engine and traction control light came on along with a weird Oder in the cabin. secondly I was short the quarts of oil.... I see no leaks.
View 2 RepliesJust had my lexus dealership do the ELF recall. While it was in there I had them check to see why my check vsc light comes on randomly which sets off the check engine light.
They came back and told me that my water pump is leaking, what are the future problems of a leaking water pump?
They said the check vsc light is coming on, in their words is "found center y pipe, gaskets leaking at front pipe, may still need to replace converter pipe." So what does that mean and what do I need to do?
I bought a new 2008 ISF back in the day and acquired a 2009 M5 with 6,000 miles late last year.
My ISF has headers, exhaust and throttle control which absolutely changed the car from a Lexus to a contender, consider the mods with the following comparison. I enjoy my M5 a lot, it is my out of town car- drives great at 180, corners well, solid, roomy (being from Vegas I can fit 4 bodies in the trunk)..I can go on about all the positives.
However, the F is faster with the mods, better ergonomics, and has fewer repair issues. It feels like a go cart. It pulls the 5 until it hits the limiter. As there were only 500 or so produced each year.
I just bought a 2008 IS-F
Anyway, so my check engine light doesn't come on. I know it's supposed to do a bulb check, and after two seconds or so it's supposed to shut off. All my other bulbs check, just no CEL.
So worried, I went to plug in my OBD2 reader, and no power. I tried two different readers on the car, and neither one of them power up. I tried it on my G35, and they both work.
Secondly, there's a Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) on the front passenger side that has three vacuum ports, only two are hooked up.
More importantly is the OBD port, I think my F is in limp mode because when I go to manual mode it won't allow first gear.
However, when I go to rev it up, everything is solid, the car pulls like crazy regardless. The car looks like it had an intake and someone went back to stock, also it's got some kind of exhaust as well.
Dealership said the only thing they did was change the oil on the car before they put it up for sale. Yesterday when I went to take my wife and kids out for their first drive in the F. I popped the hood and told her that I wanted to check the oil level before we left, she was watching as I went to pull the dipstick and it wouldn't come out! I tried to twist it and pull hard but it wouldn't budge? I'd didn't want to pull too hard as I didn't want to break the top off, but am at a loss as to why it would be stuck like that? Is there some special way to take the dipstick out that I'm doing wrong here? Or could they have shoved it in too far? Guess I have to deal with my first issue with the car...
View 14 RepliesWhy in the would I keep getting a VSC light on.
View 2 RepliesWhen u set the climate to hot but your only getting cold air ? and it would randomly work and go hot driving me crazy as its getting cold!
View 11 RepliesI've owned my 2011 IS-F for a couple of month now. I know the Sport Mode give the car crisper throttle response and it shifts quicker. Does the Sport Mode do anything else?
View 14 RepliesCan you lock the IS-F from the outside while its still running? Occasionally I will let the car warmup or idle while I step away from it, and try to lock it with the remote but no luck. Any way to do this?
View 4 RepliesI had my car in storage for the winter, pulled it out today.
The one headlamp was dimmer than the other. The other was operating fine.
The dim one went out after a few min. I restarted the car and it came back on dim.
Is this a sign that the bulb is burning out? or something else? What is the usually lifespan on these bulbs?
LS F idle at without the AC on, mine is about 500 rpm, which seems low to me, if AC is on it feels about right 750 to 800 rpm.
