I shift at certain rpms from 1st-2nd just to hear the burble / popping out of the exhaust.. I hold it around 3k and the shift and let off the gas and it's a Orchestra of amazing noises that are Oh so addicting. Secondly, are there any negatives to doing this? Or that sometimes I hear the loud thud / pop when slowing down but not everytime . What is the true cause of these glorious noises.

View 8 RepliesJust wondering how to get my VR to pop, and burble like my old turbo jetta GLI with Milteek non resonated exhaust. One of the things I miss about my GLI is the popping I would get sometimes between shifts and on deacceleration in lower gears. How to get our engines to pop and burble like the turbo cars do. Is it just a free flowing catback like GHL, Neuspeed? Or is it the free flowing cats, or the turbo?

View 6 RepliesWent to a road course for the first time on Sunday. After about 10 laps the car started smoking bad from the exhaust. The smoke was thick and white. There were professional drivers present (driving school) as well as a lexus service manager there looking at the car after the run. The smoke was thick but without that sweet smell of coolant. This was the hardest the car has ever been run but also maintained normal oil and coolant temperatures. After a bit of resting the smoke cleared up and never came back, my drive home was 2 hours long and car still seems ok. Engine sounds good, oil very clean, what could it have been? I have no cats so its going to be more obvious than normal.
View 14 RepliesHaving a sound from my exhaust. Basically when the car is rolling along around 25 MPH or so, and my foot is not on the gas, as soon as I gently touch the gas pedal, I get a soft "thump" sound. This basically tends to happen in 5th or 6th gear only.
The previous owner had done a muffler delete on the stock exhaust so I figured there was some sort of back pressure issue because of this.
Finally out of frustration, I sprung for a new Borla Catback exhaust system, hoping to eliminate this issue. While the thump sound is slightly less, it still happens!
Been researching exhausts a bit and getting information about the full PPE header and PPE Dual mode exhaust to review?

When I had my 350(F-sport exhaust) I couldn't cruise with the moonroof open without filling the cabin up with fumes.
View 14 RepliesSo I believe I have a crack in the Exhaust Manifold... When I rev the car I can hear a slight tick. I had taken it to a shop to do a muffler delete and said that there may be a leak or crack somewhere. The tech said it wasn't too bad but it may be something to keep an eye on. My question is, what would be the best route to go? Is this a common issue with the ISF? I was thinking if it was also possible if it may just be the gasket, which the tech also said it could be. I have a 2008 model with about 113k miles on it.
View 14 Repliesjust recently installed the new X force exhaust system on my 2008 ISF with 72,000 miles on it. I've had the exhaust on the car for about 300 miles it when I was driving home from work today the vsc and check engine light pops up. I turn the car off when I got home and then turned it back on the check engine light was off but the stored Code was still there when I read it with the scanner P0420. I'm thinking maybe there's an exhaust leak even though it sounds fine.
View 14 RepliesSo I was at my friend's shop today getting something done and since I wouldn't have to pay for it, I had him hook up the OBD scanner. Turns out the check engine light I've been having sporadically show up is P0420. After getting this, I had the sinking feeling of knowing finally what the problem was. Recently I've been having some very loud noises coming from my exhaust, and not from the tips where it should be. So we jacked up the car, and what do I find? The connection right behind the catalytic converter where it connects to the rest of the rear exhaust was compromised. Apparently I had scraped the exhaust a couple times too forcefully and it separated at the flange and the gasket is no longer sealing. So here's my question. I have the TRD CAT-back exhaust. Is there a generic universal gasket that I can use to replace the leaking one? Or am I looking at needing to find a shop to make one?
View 6 RepliesI have a 2007 Camry le 4 cylinder. When under a load on the highway there is an occasional buzzing that occurs when accelerating (sounds like a piece of metal vibrating at a high pitch). It only happens under about 3000 RPMs and the noise doesn't occur any other time (idle, reving the engine while idle, slow speeds, etc.). Today I got it up on a lift and checked all of the heat shields under the hood and around the exhaust under the car. Nothing seemed loose. I had two mechanics look at it and one thinks that the exhaust flex pipe is the culprit, while the other insists that this is a known issue with the resonator (said a small piece may have broken off of a baffle inside and is vibrating). Are either of these components well known to cause this type of issue? I'd rather not replace both if one is frequently the cause.

Does pressing the rubber heater hoses going to the firewall? Other methods? Take coolant tank cap off once in a while?
I installed the TurboKits CAI kit a few weeks ago. Installation went smoothly, and the latest kit has a modification to the box that fits our Accent's air snorkel. On cars with automatic transmissions, I had to cut out a notch from the bottom of the box to clear the transmission, but I doubt that this affects the air flow to the filter.
However, I have a big problem with the sound. The transmission often shifts at very low RPMs, and the CAI makes a very loud burble when this occurs. If I shift into a lower gear using the semi-manual mode, then the sound goes away. I realize that CAIs make a louder sound when you put your foot into it, but I find the sound a little over-the-top (especially considering that when the sound comes on, the engine is producing very little power at this part of the power band).
So, it's not really a problem with the CAI itself, more with the car's TCU. Unfortunately, it's too annoying for me, so I'll be reverting back to the original air intake system, and selling the TurboKits CAI.
So I've had my 2015 IS250 for only 7-8 months, and it happened to rain in CA. My windshield wipers were put to use, but the wipers make loud noises. The rubber does not seem to wipe the glass smoothly or quietly as it skips or drags when the wipers go up. Will the dealership fix this at no cost?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan. Back in November 2014 my car began giving me trouble starting, making clicking noises when I turn the key. My mechanic told me I needed an alternator so I had him install one. A few weeks after that I had the same problem. He told me a wire leading to the alternator was bad and he replaced it. A few weeks after that the exact same thing happened. He said another wire was bad. I asked him to check all the wires, which he says he did. Back in June of this year my car started giving me problems starting again. Every now and then it would click when I turned the ignition key. Finally, I went back to my mechanic and this time he said I needed a new starter. This was July. Then, last week, my battery light came on while I was driving. Long story short, I had to replace my alternator again. It's only been 9 months! Coupled with all this, both my back lights are out; my right turn signal is out, most of the time, every now and then it works, and sometimes my windshield wipers won't come on.

Does warranty cover interior quality? cuz there are loud crackling noises while driving on normal roads. and recently since it snowed the crackling became much more noticeable and loud, really annoying.
In the morning backing out of the driving way, the breaks squeak in a really high pitch sound, the dealership told me it is normal but it got louder than when i first got it. Seems like its a normal problem for most, but is there a way to reduce the noise? i get its cleaning the brakes but its mad loud.
So driving in the snow the brakes get really bumpy, is that abs or is it like crushing snow? just sorta scary feeling.
My husband had my tires replaced this week. I drive a 2008 Ford Explorer.The car has been running fine - no problems what so ever. Now there is a sound when I turn or go quite slowly. We live on a street that is 25mph so we go slowly to start. I hear the sound while going straight at slower speeds, but also when turning - almost at full lock. It is difficult to describe the sound - not grinding and not screeching. Its almost as if I turned the wheel too far. The sound when running straight is lower maybe rubbing. The sound seems to be coming from the right side of the car. I can also feel the sound, but it isn't a strong vibration. My husband drove the car and said he felt nothing (of course - just like TV repair man syndrome). All 4 tires were replaced. Hubby checked the nuts - says they were alright.
View 5 RepliesI bought a 2008 5.4l xlt about a year ago now. For the first time I took it on a trail that had a little mud. With my incredible wisdom, I decided to park the truck rather than wash it off. The next day the engine started making weird noises when I turned the steering wheel. After washing the truck it still made noises so I opened the hood. THE ENTIRE engine compartment is covered in a serious amount of mud. I feel that this has to be what started the noises when I turn. Mud dried in the wrong place? The noise sounds like a whine and its pitch matches the engine rpm until over 2500 where I don't really hear it anymore. Is there a way to flush the engine compartment?
