IS F (2008-2014) :: Auto-dimming Mirrors Working Intermittently
Jan 12, 2015
As the title says, the auto-dimming mirrors are working intermittently, I'm assuming a problem with the sensor in the mirror it's self?

View 2 RepliesI have an 07 Camry SE V6 with auto dimming rear and side view mirrors that just stopped working. I've checked the fuses and everything is ok - where to look next?
View 14 RepliesAny work around/fix for the gauge brightness dropping so dramatically with the headlights on? I have it maxed out on the rocker switch (brightest) but would like to be closer or equal to daytime brightness.
View 3 RepliesI've recently noticed that my v's auto dimming rear view mirror has stopped working, or at least appears that way. I'm not sure if it's because of the tint because I have used my iPhones led to testing it by shining the light from inside of the vehicle but it still fails to dim.
View 8 RepliesMy screen is supposed to be dimmer at night, but now it always stay bright. I don't know how to set it.
View 5 RepliesI am in the midst of wiring up the Bold Sport kit that comes with the OEM mirror with build Rain/light sensor. It comes with a nicely made wiring harness with OEM terminals already installed. The kit can be found here for reference. [URL]
Right now I am following the directions from myturbodiesel.com [URL]
It instructs to add the power source to the fuse box. No problem. Says to add the RLS to fuse pin 17 and the Mirror power to pin 7.
Here is the diagram they show.
The problem is on my '13 Golf R, 17 is already taken. I can certainly add to a different pin on the same bus. So not really an issue there.
The other issue is that there is no power bus for pins 7-11 on my R. What gives? There is a power bus on pins 1-6 but they are all taken already.
Chevy Tahoe LS 2002: My electrochromic automatic dimming mirrors suddenly do not turn ON when restarting the vehicle. I can turn them ON by pressing the button on the mirror for 6 seconds, but when I turn off the vehicle and restart, they are OFF again. How do I set them so they will be turned ON when I start the vehicle, as used to be the case?
View 5 RepliesSo this morning I replaced my puddle lights with some leds. After a pretty simple install I was driving around and notice one of my mirrors vibrating so I reached out to pop it into place and noticed that my mirrors are hot (not from the sun but def the heating element).. Could have done anything diluting the process of changing the puddle lamps to make it where these heaters stay on all the time. For all that I know they could have been on all the time even prior to the install as I don't touch the mirror very often.
View 4 RepliesMy GTI has 300 miles on it, just noticed that the auto up/down function on the driver's side window switch only works sometimes. You have to push or pull hard on the switch to get it to auto open or close. I'm assuming it could just be a faulty switch?

Was lucky enough to pick up an 08 with only 26k miles 3 weeks ago from Virginia. I've gone through and swapped LEDs for all of the interior LEDs. Last night I finally had the time and I put VLED flank bulbs in the puddle lights under the mirrors. Today when driving I noticed the mirrors are vibrating significantly, so much that I have to readjust them back into position.
I don't see where I could have broken anything to cause this. I know there's some adhesive on the back of the mirror and wondering if I should go ahead and replace this? Or did I just not fit the glass back in 100%?
Had clear bra installed on my car. They had to redo the mirrors and the hood pieces because they didnt install the self healing film the first time. After the tech installed the second pieces I noticed an annoying whistling noise from the drivers mirror. I taped it off and even wedged a piece of thin plastic in the gap between the base of the mirror and the car to see if it would stop.
Anyway did a little research and found to my dismay that guys with the 4GS and 3IS are having the same issue when installing paint protection film on the drivers mirrors. As far as they know the remedy is to remove the film. I am assuming it has to do with the positioning or thickness of the film because it did not make any noise with the basic film installed and where it was installed.
I just went down to the garage and peeled it off, took it for a ride, and BOOM .....silence . Crazy that a thin film on the mirror could cause wind noise .
What Relay switch controls these.
View 3 RepliesAny opinions on adding an auto dimming mirror? I miss having homelink, and I miss having the auto dim feature. Are there even options out there? If there are- have any of you used them? Do you like it? Hate it? How hard is the install?
View 5 RepliesSo I have had my Platinum for a year now and really love it but there are two things that drive me nuts. First is the range of the romote start, which is the factory installed version. There is no range you pretty much have to right next to the truck for it to work so what is the point? Any way to increase the range?
Second is the audio system, I have the in-dash NAV/Sync system. I use my iPod pretty much all the time. I have it hooked up via USB. Now sometimes when I am listeng to it while driving the turn off the truck do something get back in and stert the truck the iPod does not play, I have to go to the NAV screen and push the USB icon and then it will start to play, other time I just start the truck and it play automatically. I have my system to play automatically but that is not always the case.
I have a new to me 2008 F250 XLT. Neither side on the power mirrors is working. The manual shows fuse number twelve on the passenger side fuse block is the one that controls this circuit. The fuse is good (continuity wise). What I need to know is what color is the wire that feeds power to the switch block on the driver's side door panel. Pulled it out of the door panel and wiring was intact and corrosion free. I need to find out if there is power there or is it an issue between the fuse block and the switch.
View 2 RepliesMy old flip style rear view mirror was getting a little bad looking on the bottom of the mirror, so I decided to go pick up an OEM auto-dimming one. I did not care for homelink as I have no need for it, nor do I need temp since thats on the car already, so I wasn't interested in a non oem mirror. Plus I like simplicity, so plug and play is always nice. I paid $70 for the mirror, you can expect to pay around that as well.
Anyways, from my understanding, our Camrys should come prewired for the auto-dimming mirror, or at least the sunroof equipped models should come prewired. The plug sits in the overhead console near the drivers side sunvisor taped down. It's just a little white plug with a black sheath around the wiring.
Tools Needed:
-Your hands
-A smallish hex key (I don't know the exact size) or a smallish torx screwdriver
From start to finish, this shouldn't take you longer than 10 minutes to do. Let me emphasize first that you should make sure you're prewired for the auto-dimming mirror before you go out and buy one unless you prefer to hardwire things, or return things.
Step 1: Check if you're prewired for the mirror. Start by pulling down the overhead console. Push on the sunglasses holder to drop it down, grab on with both hands, and pull down. Don't worry, you shouldn't break anything, but don't pull down insanely hard otherwise you may pull some wires out of the harness attached to it. Now check near the drivers side sunvisor and see if theres a plug taped down, if there is, fantastic!
Step 2: (if you're not prewired for the mirror, you can stop here).Push that plug through the hole near the windshield to get that out of the way. You can now put the overhead console back on.
Step 3: Behind your stock rearview mirror, theres a little screw holding it on. You'll need either a hex key, or a torx screwdriver to remove it (although you can probably use a flathead to get it out if you want). DONT LOSE THAT SCREW. Once you unscrew it, pull up on the mirror to get it to slide out of the little metal mount its sitting on.
Step 4: Now that the old mirror is out, get the new mirror. Get the plug you pushed out of the overhead console and plug it into the mirror. Now, slide the mirror back onto that metal mount and then screw it in.
Step 5: Turn your key on, or to acc, and the mirror should now turn on. Easiest way to tell is if the compass comes up.
Step 5.5: Admire your hard work and your fancy new mirror!
Would someone take a picture of your setup if your vehicle came from the factory with the auto dimming and home link. I am wanting to add the auto dim and home link to our car, but I am wanting it to look factory. I am just wondering what the difference in looks are?. I believe there is a factory black piece that fits over the wires.
View 5 RepliesHow do the wires run from the auto dimming mirror up to the headliner? Is there a hole in the grey plastic piece in the headliner that sits right in front of the map light assembly?
View 2 RepliesAny way to disable the auto-dimming of my dashboard due to lack of light? It seems like when I go into tunnels, the dashboard dims so much that all I can see are the needles.
I suppose I could also turn on the lights, but that seems like overkill.
Any solution for a auto dimming drivers side mirror ?
