The cruise control cuts out after driving for 25+ minutes. The rpm's rev up to 4000 and the speedometer goes wild just before cutting off. It can be reset but does not hold for long. Short trips and a cooling-off period for the engine seem to work. The dealer could not replicate the condition.
View 1 RepliesI have a 4 cylinder manual transmission that the cruise control won't set. The light will come on it just won't set. I don't see any vacuum hoses and can't find any blown fuses. All the lights brakes, parking, and flashers seem to be working fine.
View 4 RepliesThis has happened 3 or 4 times now while driving down the road. Just cruising down the road the CC will just cut out. I'll hit the "set accel" button on the wheel and all is good again until it randomly decides to do it again.
The only thing I've changed recently is the rear end speed sensor to cure the ABS light. I wouldn't/didn't think this would have any effect on the cruise control, but IDK, maybe I'll put the original one back in and test it.
I have a 99 Hyundai Elantra Wagon and it has about 205,000 miles on it. It has been a wonderful vehicle, but I have a couple of problems with it. One, the cruise control is a little funny. Between about 42 mph and maybe 55 mph, the engine will rev up and down and sometimes will shut off the cruise control altogether. Also, I think it has a transmission problem- when I slow down to come to a stop or slow down enough for a turn, it sort of hesitates going forward. Not the engine, but just going where I want it to go and when. It almost feels like the brakes are on when I'm trying to accelerate, but those have been checked. Automatic transmission.
View 1 RepliesI have 2011 Elantra that the cruise control is not working properly. It started out that I had to slap it to get it to work. I have to push the Resume button to turn on, Cancel button to set, set button to resume and the on/off button to cancel. Was told I need a new switch assembly. Done that and same problem. Shop checked brake light switch and said it was working properly, but I think they just meant for the brake light and it was not sticking. Even had steering wheel pulled and put dielectric grease on the wiring harness.

No nothing. All of a sudden. I read about the relays, fuses, however didn't make much of it - overlooked perhaps....

View 3 Replies2010 Elantra. The other day I noticed that while driving with cruise control on, on the way home from work, pressing the brake pedal didn't turn the cruise control off. I felt the brake work, but the engine started revving like I was holding down the accelerator so I took my foot off and manually turned the cruise control off with the On/Off button. I didn't think much of it at the time other than it hadn't done that previously. Then, when I got home I couldn't put the car in park. The shifter wouldn't move past Neutral up to the Reverse or Park position. Using the shift-lock release push button I was able to put it in park. I'm not sure if the two issues presented here are related, but they both occurred for the first time on the same day. I was hoping it was a random occurrence and it would be better today, but things haven't changed. The brake and accelerator have continued to work just as before and the car feels no different driving it.
View 3 RepliesMine has done it a few times now. It seems to do it going up a very long gradual to steeper incline, such as climbing some mountains, when set to 60 MPH. It'll start dropping down until it gets to about 47 +/- MPH, then the cruise just kicks off. No downshifting in sight...
There's a stretch of route 219 through PA heading north towards NY that I encounter about once a month. Yesterday was the 2nd time I've had my Sonata on this trip, and it did it again. It actually did it twice last month on this trip.
The dealer reset the transmission computer due to very cold weather "slipping" from 1-2 shift after the first trip. It appears that didn't take care of this issue, though I didn't mention it to the dealer at the time (it slipped my mind).
I'm reluctant to take it to the dealer, since odds are they won't be able to duplicate the issue. We don't have any roads around here quite like the one this happens on.
I just discovered my cruise won't "SET" (light goes out after 1/2 second) anymore after having the brake light switch done yesterday.
View 2 RepliesWhy is there a sensor on the brake master cylinder? Most other cars and trucks I've seen have tied the cruise control into the brake light (and clutch interlock if Manual transmission.) switch so that when the pedal is depressed, the cruise control cuts out.
In the Ex, could I tap the brake pedal enough that the brake lights come on yet I don't trigger the pressure sensor in the master cylinder to cut the cruise control?
Bought a Sonata Limited with 5500 miles on it from local dealership. Soon after I noticed that the cruise did not always engage. Problem is that when I brought it in for service, no one was able to duplicate the problem. What to do?

View 8 RepliesI've stumped the local dealership and their Hyundai Tech Line as well. This is a 2011 Hyundai Sonata with about 50k miles. Also this is my first winter with it so I can't tell you if it's a new issue or if it's always happened in the "cold". This is Northern California so the cold nights are about as low as 30.
On a cold start, after 20-30 minutes the heater sputters out and the lights on the control unit go out. Sometimes it goes back on if I continue driving for 5-15 more minutes; another way for it to go on again is to turn the car off and start it again. The final way to turn it back on (which was discovered the last time it was in the shop) is to gently begin to start the car again (while it's on) and just that slight movement in the ignition cylinder turns it back on.
The sputtering out doesn't actually turn it off completely, just the lights, buttons and knobs stop responding and the heat mostly goes off.
The control unit has been replaced, plugs have been tightened and the ignition cylinder has been replaced.
They've road tested it 3 times and I'm a little tired of having to get a rental car as they claim to not be able to start a new case with Hyundai Tech Line until they have my car.
I have a 2004 Hyundai Accent with about 120,000 miles on it. Last summer, it started jerking badly from park to 1st and 1st to 2nd for the first five or ten minutes that I drove it. It stopped during the winter (Texas winter, so a mild fall in most places with seasons), the check engine light never came on, and the transmission fluid was fine (both color and volume), so I didn't get it checked out. Now that it's summer again, the jerking has started back up. I've also noticed in the last few weeks weak acceleration after stopping (again, usually only in the first ten minutes or so of driving). And today my check engine light came on.
I've checked the fuses, and I just got my oil changed (they said the check engine light was giving them a transmission code, but didn't elaborate). I have a leaking valve cover gasket and cracked belts that I'll be repairing ASAP. Is it possible that either of those are causing this problem?
Since I'm a single young woman, I don't want to go into a shop without being fully informed (I can't tell you how many times I've been ripped off). My research suggested a couple things:1. It might be the coil packs.2. I might need a new transmission.
Ok, today on my way to work, I got up to speed and turned on the cruise control. It worked fine. I then stopped on my way to work to get a bottle of water. I got up to speed and went to hit Set. Nothing would happen. I ended up getting off at the next exit and turn off the car completely. Restarted the car and got back on the interstate. Got up to speed, turned on the cruise and hit Set. It worked. On my way home, no problems. It was just strange.

View 16 RepliesFor the 4th time now my cruise control doesn't come on (had the car almost 4 months, with 6500 miles). The main "cruise" light comes on, but when I hit the "set" button nothing happens.
All except one time I had to remove the key before it would work again. One time I kept trying the "set" button and it finally worked. It's so infrequent, they'll never be able to recreate at the dealership. Not sure if I should just try to report it for documentation purposes, so if it happens to be permanent after warrantee expires hopefully it will be covered.
Back in the day, cruise was controlled by vacuum pressure but I don't know if that's the case any longer.
So my cruise is giving me issues, won't set the speed. Turns on and off no problem but set and resume do not work. However, turn off the car and then re-start it and the cruise works again. I know the radio is only up to 60k.
