Hyundai - Elantra :: 2003 - CEL Codes PO456 And PO420 Came Up
Sep 7, 2014
2003 hyundai elantra.... One year ago my CEL was on and I had my catalytic converter changed. car passed emissions and my CEL came back on about a month later, my mechanic said nothing to worry about. i now have to bring my car for emissions again and when i brought the car to the mechanic he said my map sensor needed to be changed. 200.00 dollars later the CEL came back on after about 120 miles. mechanic cleared the light, i brought it to emissions but it was too soon to be tested, but they said "your car is fine, no codes are coming up, you just need to drive it more". CEL came on at only 50 miles this time and now took it to pep boys to get another opinion on the codes. po456 and po420 came up.

I have a 2001 Chevrolet Prizm with check engine light showing PO420 and PO446 codes, what could be the problem?

My 2003 Hyundai Elantra has 94000 miles and is already on it's second clutch. It is starting to feel like this one is almost toast after only about 25000 miles. It feels like it is slipping starting from a stop (the tachometer goes up, I release the clutch and there is a pause before the car moves) and if I am in 2nd or 3rd gear and I accelerate the tachometer will often jump and the car will lurch. I have had a clutch go out before and it felt very similar to this, I just can't believe that this clutch would only last 25000 miles. I know that you can't adjust the clutch as it is self-tensioning, but I also know the mechanic who put in the second clutch had some problems and it had to be re-serviced after the initial replacement. Is there any way this guy did something wrong that could be fixed? Could the clutch really be worn out after 25000 miles? I'm the only driver and I don't feel like I drive the car too aggressively... If the consensus is that the clutch needs replacement, maybe you could throw out some figures so I know what I am getting into?

We purcheased a used 2003 Hyundai Elantra in Aug. 2010. Since then the driver's side low beam has burnt out 3 times. From our online research this appears often in the Elantra, but with no real fix. There does not appear to be any moisture problem and I am leaning towards a short, ground, or voltage problem. But seems odd that it is always the same headlight.

My car is a 2003 Hyundai Elantra. When I turn on my air conditioner it does not turn on and the vents release a bad odor (not like the mildew smell that could come from there, I don't know how to describe it but it was making me sick). When I turn on my air conditioner I can hear a fan turn on but no air comes from the vents; but air does come out of the defrost vents only. The smell is not as strong as it was when this first started happening, but it is still there.

Everything was working perfectly. I stopped at McDonalds to get a bite to eat. When I left McDonalds, the car would not shift out of first gear. I have checked the transmission fluid and it appears to be good. I shifted from Park to low, and low back to park several times making sure there was no problem there. I noticed it also kicks hard when going into reverse, and it kicks hard when going into drive. When it is driven it will not shift out of first gear.

I have a 2003 Hyundai Elantra with about 96,0000 miles on it. A couple of days the car wouldn't start and I assumed the battery was dead. Also, every time I would turn the key, the alarm would do these short successive beeps. After AAA came to see about replacing the battery, he saw that the alarm would beep when the key was put in and told me the anti-theft system was preventing the car from starting, and that a new battery wouldn't fix it. At the time, the battery in the key fob was also dead but I got that fixed and the key fob is working.

Connected my obd2 to my car and found 3 fault codes 1 which repeated itself twice.. the codes are P0453 that repeated itself a couple times and the 3rd one is P0133.. I looked them up and see that one can be either bad grounding and also a bad oxygen sensor? and then the other mentions something about fuel and says something about fuel pressure sensor?

Its a 2009 Prius with about 75K miles on it. I have scangauge on the dash as well as mini-VCI. It is setting PO456 code time after time. I reset it, but it comes back in about 50 mils of driving. Its not the gas cap, I turn it until it clicks every time. Something is wrong with evaporative emissions system, which I wouldn't care about, except it might mask some other fault code that is more serious, as it keeps check eng. light on all the time.

Ok, 04 Passat, 1.8T AWM
CEL is on for po456 (very small evap leak) and every time I fill up on fuel, I can smell a STRONG fuel odor, from near the fuel neck, and inside the car. Stops after it hits around 3/4 area. No leaks, and the car runs fine. Gas cap, and N80 valve were just replaced, both parts are from the dealer. I'm going to bring it in for a smoke test soon. All recall notices have been done too, I just did the timing belt.

I recently had my Hyundai Entourage (2008) come up with the following engine codes: P0057 and P0037, both related to the downstream oxygen sensors. The generic description of the code is heated oxygen sensor heater control circuit low. As I understand this code, it is signaling that there is too much current passing through the heater circuit. The oxygen sensors test out OK for resistance, around 10 Ohms each and disconnecting them entirely and rerunning the test after driving a few times yields the same code. So I suspect the issue is not with the sensors but either the wiring or the ECU. I'd be a little surprised at a sudden short in the wires for both sensors but I suppose stranger things have happened. Oh and the fuse for the oxygen sensors has not blown. I am correct in reading these codes to mean there is an apparent short? Or are there any other things that could cause this to happen?

I have a 2001 Hyundai Elantra. For a few weeks my car would not start if it had been driven a lot in one day but than it would start the next morning. Now over the weekend even after sitting it will not start at all. I have changed the positive terminal and the relay switch. There is a little under a quarter tank of gas and I have never let it get so low but did for further testing. What it might be? I just replaced the starter a few months ago and it has gave no recent indication of it going bad. There is a valve gasket leak that I need to get replaced but I don't think that would cause it not start...but than again who knows

So about 6 months ago I got new brakes on my car (2009 Hyundai Elantra). It was done by a independent repair shop. A few weeks later the brakes started making really weird noises, so I took it back to the shop and they took a look at them and they said everything seemed to be fine. So the next couple weeks there was no noise, but after a month or so the same thing happened again, I took them back to the shop they said everything looked fine and the noise stopped once again, but after a couple months later this happened again! and its been frustrating.
So when I took it to the dealership for oil change, I asked the guy to check the brakes for me and he said everything looked good, but if I had them changed in an independent repair shop they probably put generic ones which don't have some kind of lubricant that keeps them from making noises, that this happens sometimes, and if I wanted to fix it, new brakes had to be installed and they need to be the dealership brand which is for Hyundai cars. How true is this? I'm very naive when it comes to cars so I don't know whats going on.

My car has been having issues lately, I'll have the heat or air on (doesn't matter which), and I'll hear a click (like a pen click) and it will go off, then it will click again and go back on. Last year it only did this a couple of times and I solved the problem by hitting the dashboard, obviously. But now it's doing it every time I drive, and since it's winter I kind of need the heat to stay on. What is the problem?

My problem is gas cut on my Elantra 2001. Here is how it happened; Last week I filled up my tank with regular gasoline then added middle quality gas this time. I always use middle quality gas but once I made a mistake and filled with regular. Then my reliable elantra started stumble and cut gas few times in a day. What would be the problem?

I have a 2001 Celica GT and the CEL just came on. Went to Autozone and had the code read (PO420) - they said it could be O2 sensor or bad catalytic converter. Is there any way to narrow it down before I just start buying parts to replace? Car has 140,000+ and runs great...surprisingly one of the few that doesn't seem to burn oil! PO420 diagnosis?

Like a lot of others, my 2000 Elantra will just barely take gas at the pump. So I've done the research, I think I understand the problem, but when I tried to find the replacement filter, there seem to be 4 different parts ranging from $8 to $180. Which part should I order and order first, or should I just replace them all?

I got my oil changed and tires balanced Saturday at the local shop around the corner. Now my alarm goes off randomly and when I use the clicker thing to lock the car, the horn doesn't make the beep sound it used to on the the second click. It never did this prior to having the oil changed, but how could that have anything to do with the alarm? I need to figure out how to make it stop, it's waking me (and my neighbors) up at night, and I have to keep leaving where ever I am to go out and see if the dang thing is going off again, which it is about half the time.

So I have a 2004 Hyundai Elantra and the previous owner called it "quirky". She said to turn the AC or heat off you have to have the setting on 4 not 0 and a few other things. She forgot to mention sometimes it just won't start. Last night when I went to drive to get some take out the car just would not start. The radio and lights turn on but the engine wouldn't start. There was no noise of the engine even trying to start. I made sure the car was in park and now I'm just confused. I called the previous owner (my boyfriend's sister) and she said when that happen she would make sure the lights, radio, and AC were turned off and jam the car into park. I tried all of this and it didn't work so I called her again and she said sometimes you just "need to wait it out"....this morning I tried the car again and it turned on with no problem but I am paranoid it will happen again on the road trip I have planned for this weekend.
