I have a 03 Honda Odyssey and just changed plugs and air filter. There now a slight wiring sound. I was wondering what possibilities could be...vacuum leak, something incorrect in way I tuned car, new problem?? It doesn't sound like a steering pump. It quotes down after awhile.
View 7 RepliesMy Odyssey has 110,000 miles but since about 50,000 miles (I can't exactly remember) it makes a loud wining sound from the engine when I slow down, gets louder when I turn a corner, like going into a parking spot. The problem is it comes and goes and I can't seem to pin point what kind of weather or other conditions make it happen.
View 1 RepliesHaving issues with 2009 Honda Odyssey. I'll describe, but I can't be certain these things are related.This morning, battery was dead for no apparent reason. No lights were left on, etc. Battery is brand new.After jump-starting, car ran fine for a few moments, then starting making loud intermittent "buzz" sound from engine/radiator area, down inside maybe on the left side of the radiator. There was also smoke rising from the engine.
I don't know much about cars, unfortunately, but cursory research suggests it might have something to do with the AC system.
I have attached a MOV which captures the sound it was making.
Like a good boy scout, last week I changed the engine air and cabin filters in my 59K-mile 2007 Honda Accord.
Taking out the air filter, I saw the usual insects and dust in the housing and got out the shopvac to suck them out. But the hose was on the wrong port, and I ended up blowing the insects and dust everywhere. Augghhh! Into the intake manifold for sure, I'd bet. I connected the hose right, put it to the air intake, and prayed I was vacuuming all the dust I'd just blown in.
The next day, on the way to college, the car ran perfectly the first three miles. Then, a half mile from campus, the check engine light came on and the car began running badly. RPMs wouldn't increase even if the gas pedal was pressed. The speed couldn't be made to go above about 20 mph. The transmission, ordinarily smooth as silk, now clunked. Fortunately, I was able to reach the college parking lot. I parked the car and went to class, hoping the car would fix itself while I was gone.
Apparently it did. After the three hours I was in classes, the car started up just fine, and it drove home just fine. Except that the check engine light was still on.
At home, I used my OBD2 checker (bought five years ago but never until now even taken out of its packaging; love my Accord), saw a fault of P2101, and erased it. That made the check engine light go out. P2101 has to do with air/fuel, so it must be related to the air filter fiasco of yesterday.
By the way, there's a rattle from the glove compartment (which is lowered to replace the cabin filter). When the compartment door is open, the rattle goes away. Will troubleshoot this later. Am more concerned with being certain the check engine light doesn't come back. I don't want to go into limp mode on the highway, hours from home.
Two days later, I took advantage of a Sunday afternoon to try to blow/clean out the injectors and intake manifold. I put in a bottle of Techron and drove the car 45 miles, mostly on a nearby semi-rural highway. It has a 70 mph speed limit but at times traffic was doing 80. (Texas.) The car ran perfectly, both highway and city.
My car was looking really rough, covered in salt. I took it to a car wash which was across the street from where i was staying last night. After the car wash, I drove home about 1 min. The car sat overnight (temp to -5).
The car won't start today. When I turn the key, it makes a "whirring" sound but doesn't turn over. No clicking. Good power, all lights are on. Put a booster battery back on the battery to try to rule out a batter issue, still no start.
Can the starter actually freeze? I'll never wash the car again.
My TCS light is on. I feel a terrible pull when I get up to 40 miles an hour that wont go off. Feels like the car isn't shifting. I sound like a jet plane ready to take off. Took it to car repair shop- he said it was a transmission issue so take it to transmission mechanic- especially since I still have 3 months left on my warrenty. I took it there and they claim it is a "wheel bearing issue".. Should I take it to a different repair shop- like a brake specialist? This van has 220,000 miles.

View 2 RepliesI have a 1999 Honda Accord (4 Cylinder, 180,000 miles). After a recent blizzard here in Wisconsin I am hearing a "whirring" sound coming from the front end of my car. I begin to hear it at about 10mph and it gets progressively louder and begins to sound like a jet at cruising altitude. The car overall sounds louder on the road. I checked for the possibility of snow/ice packed around the wheels or underneath the car but don't see any. A wheel bearing possibly?
View 7 RepliesMy wife drives a 2010 Honda Odyssey. Yesterday she told me that last week it started making occasional sounds like metal scraping. I heard it today and it sounds like a chain dragging, or something going on in the wheel. The sound lasts for less than a minute, and is then gone. The sound changes pitch/frequency with speed. It only happens with the car in motion, and only after it's been driving for awhile. It sounds like it's coming from one of the left side wheels.
There are only 36,000 miles on the car. We live in Northern California where the climate is mild and there's never salt on the road. I'm wondering if this model has problems with wheel bearings, or something else.
I've noticed a creaking sound coming from the rear of my 2012 Honda Odyssey when I'm in the garage, loading & unloading people & stuff. I can recreate it by rocking the wheel/tire back and forth by hand. It's only the right rear wheel that creaks, but the left rear wheel "sings" when I do this rocking motion. I don't hear anything when I'm driving (even when it's quiet & I have the windows open). The rotors are overdue for a resurface, and have been since we bought the van 7 months ago. Could this be part of the problem?

In the back and front under the heat shield... I just left them hanging there after cutting up my hands trying to reach in there and push each one back in...
View 6 RepliesThis is a 2006 Honda Civic LX which it won’t turn over. Last night we replaced the battery because it was old, and that still did not fix the issue.
The lights, stereo, electronics, etc will turn on, but when you turn the key, it’s just a very sad sounding “whirrrr” and nothing. It sounds like the battery is dead, but it obviously isn't. There’s no clicking…it has a full tank of gas…the key is programmed fine and is not new…
Further details: yesterday we were able to turn the car on (though it was slow to start: we thought it was the battery…) and move it to the driveway one time. After that, even jumping it off doesn't work.
Previously for the last week or so I've been experiencing a slowness to the start (I would turn the key and it just took a little longer than it has before to finally turn on) and also my headlights & interior lights were flickering pretty severely during my night driving. We had someone at Advanced Auto check the battery and alternator with one of their gadgets, but the alternator checked out fine. The battery was old and showing that it didn't have much left, so that’s why we replaced it.
We checked a lot of the fuses and didn't find anything blown. The alternator belt looked good, we made sure all the battery connections were tight & secure… We are just so confused as to why it’s not working…!! I'm not sure if the intermittent lights flickering is related or unrelated. I am in a relatively warm place but it's not been all that hot lately... I've never had any other problems with the vehicle...
What causes a whirring sound in the front of the car when I turn the steering wheel? It happens first thing when I start in the morning but goes away.

Leaves have been cleaned out, rattle went away for 3-4 days then came back. Rattle is while system is on or off, warm or cold engine. Sound is like a hamster wheel or maybe boiling water.
View 1 RepliesThe last couple winter's we've experienced a significant "clunking" sound when placing the van from Park to Reverse. It doesn't do this by moving the gear shift from Park to Drive or Neutral. This only happens when the engine is cold and has been sitting for several hours. Outside temps below 35-40 degrees. Don't have the problem in Spring, Summer, or Fall. We have 177K miles. Transmission fluid/filter has been changed regularly by my mechanic according to Honda's instructions.
No problems with the transmission or engine since we've owned the vehicle, and we've been the only owners. No leaking found. Honda thought the problem could be a rear engine mount. Just had another local mechanic (I'm 65 miles from the nearest Honda dealer) whom we trust replace the Rear Transmission Mount. Still have the clunking noise, and you can really feel it too. It's been a great van for us, and we'd like to keep it another 50K, if possible.
I need to change the engine and cabin filter on our Camry what brand do you recommend also does it really matter if you purchase the expensive filters vs 5.00 to 10.00 ones? I ask because looks like Toyota OEM filters are normal paper filters.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2006 Honda Odyssey with a little less than 50,000 miles on it. I love my car!! It is so comfortable and so durable. But.. lately if I have been driving at a high rate of speed, such as on the highway,for an extended period of time (at least 20 minutes) when I slow down or come to a stop it sounds like a quiet fire engine siren. I can't think of any other way to describe. Of course, I took it to my Honda service center and they couldn't replicate the sound. I even took the service person for a ride, but we didn't go far enough for it to happen. They said they gave it a thorough once over, but it is still happening. I don't want to take it back to them until I have something to guide them in the right direction. I love my Honda and I really want it to last me a very long time.

When cold – before warming up – it acts like nothing is wrong – as it gets warmer – to the middle of the temperature gauge – it misfires.And runs rough. Evaluation: Honda Dealership thinks it is a cracked Valve or needs adjustment – they have replaced a spark plug and swapped coils. Not for sure.They think if that is not the case then there could be additional problems.Question: Why does it act normal when cold ? How can we confirm if it is the valve and not cracked head?
View 15 RepliesI have a 2001 Honda Odyssey with 140,000 miles. In the past year we've had major repairs to the car including rebuilding the transmission, fixing things on the steering column, replacing the catalytic converter, waterpump and timing belt, and a complete brake job. We thought we would be good to go for another 3 years on this van. But it continues to have this sporadic problem a few times a week: I will put the car into drive and press the accelerator, but the engine doesn't seem to get any fuel and it feels like the car may die or stall. If I keep my foot on the accelerator, the car will kick in and go after a few seconds.
A couple of times, I pushed down a little bit harder on the accelerator, but it sort of surged or jumped a bit and then got going just fine. My mechanic says this problem has to happen while he's driving it and has it hooked up to a machine or something in order to diagnose it and he is going to charge me more diagnostic fees to hunt for the problem. He says it could be many things. Is there something simple I can check myself in order to fix this before paying more fees? Would a different type of gas, or additives or a simple change of spark plugs be the first thing to try? We're tired of putting money into this van, but we feel we are invested in it now, and want to hang in there.
2008 Honda Odyssey, 64000mi. Last oil change Jan 2015, 59000mi. Has been running fine since, no dash lights illuminated. Suddenly stopped in the middle of traffic, following a short rattle sound and many dash warning lights.
Long story short ended up at the dealer with a diagnosis of a seized cam shaft due to no oil. None came out when they opened the drain. No evidence of a leak. There has been no evidence of a slow leak either, such as a spot where I park my car every day or any evidence at any time of oil outside the engine.
Did the oil change chain possibly only give me 1-2 quarts? Can this be documented?
Is there any chance something else has gone wrong? I saw a post about oil control rings? Perhaps unimportant, but the mechanic mentioned, if I understand correctly, that a valve has fallen into the drip pan, implying that it was the result of the chain of events following one of the cam shafts seizing (which makes sense in an interference engine??)
I don't trust these guys so I'm suspicious. Do I allow to have them take the engine apart to see if there is any explanation for the loss of oil or seize? And why no dash light warning of no oil?
Recently had my 105K maintenance done which was water pump and timing belt plus whatever other misc belts go with that. Had it done at an indepentdent shop. Since the job was done we have noticed a high pitched whine that increases in pitch with RPM or speed that we drive (literally sounds like a jet engine whine). I took it back to the independent shop and he suggested it was our transmission. I have noticed no difficulty when changing gears nor any engine warning lights. I contacted Honda and our vehicle was part of a transmission recall in 05 that was done already. Other sources have suggested that the whine could be the belt being too tight or the water pump. Shop supposedly used all honda parts. Should I take it back to him again and suggest that the belt is too tight? Take it to the dealer and see what they think?
