I just took my 2001 Honda Accord in for an oil change and tire rotation yesterday. When I left the shop, I noticed a wobbly noise coming from the front when I was driving on the highway (40 MPH+). There is no vibration in the steering wheel, but the sound is pretty noticeable. It wasn't there when I got to the shop. I have my tires rotated every 3,000-5,000 miles. Is this simply from uneven tire wear?
View 12 RepliesUnderstandably, I've been told I need to rotate my tires more frequently. I've also been told that when I have the tires rotated, they should be balanced as well. I have the skills (minimal) to removed a tire from one location and put it on another location, but I don't have the skills or equipment to balance them. Should I, in fact, balance them as well, and if so, how frequently should the rotation/balancing occur? This is a 2006 Honda CR-V with 75k miles on it.
View 17 RepliesSecond time I've gotten my tires rotated. 20k miles. It sounds like I drive a lifted 4x4 for almost 2k miles now. Service rep says normal, cause of camber, GTI tires, etc. Goes in Wed for 20k service.
View 24 RepliesI have a 1.5 year old Forester. I have rotated the tires twice now, and each time I notice some excessive tire noise after the rotation, for the next hundred miles or so. The tires look OK. Is this a sign that I need alignment? That is, the rotation is equalizing some uneven wear due to a misalignment?
View 19 RepliesI have 2012 Tiguan, I just did a tire rotation as part of my 10k oil change. Afterward I started to hear a weird noise from front tires, especially when I was driving slow on smooth roads, I can hear tires make a noise every spin. The noise speed up with the tire speed. I do the oil change and tire rotation every 3k for my previous car, never had any problem.
View 2 RepliesMy local dealer had a special on an oil change, tire rotations, and break inspection and my 2011 Elantra GLS auto w/ 20k miles was due so I took it in.
After I got it back I noticed a noise I had never heard before when reaching speeds above 45mph. The best word to describe it would be "thumping".
I figured maybe due to the rotation the tires might need to settle in, but I've drove about 50 miles since getting it back and the noise isn't even slightly going away.
The worse part is my avg. MPG went from easily/consistently being 40+ down to low 38/high 37.
Should I just give it some more time or start to worry the service guys messed something up? Until today it's been the perfect car.
My wife had the tires rotated on her 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe immediately before we went on a long road trip. After we left, we noticed a high-pitched whining sound at speeds of about 35-70 mph. It did not occur every time we hit that speed, and it generally seemed to go away after we'd been driving for about an hour.
We could make the noise stop every time by braking (as long as the pedal was depressed), or some of the time by turning (but only while the wheel was being turned). Occasionally, going over a particularly big bump could stop or start the noise.
My question is, what color is the car? Wait, no, my question is, is this likely to be the brakes, and if so, could it have been caused by the tire rotation?
I got my tires rotated about 2 months ago on my 2003 Toyota Corolla. It had about 88k miles on it at that time. Since the moment I drove out of the shop, there has been a noise from my driver's side front tire. There is no vibration in the steering wheel or on the floor and the noise only happens when the car is in motion. The timing and sound of the noise made me think it was caused by uneven wear pattern on the tires. But it's been awhile since the rotation and the noise has not changed (neither increased nor decreased). The noise is most noticeable when I'm driving on certain road surfaces, like very smooth roads. Since the rotation, I'd be surprised if I've driven more than 500 miles max. What this could be?
View 6 RepliesI have an older 2001 Honda accord I4 about 160k miles on it. I recently noticed that there's a rattling sound when the car in in idle (800RPM) but it disappear when I rev it up to higher RPM or while driving. The noise can't be heard inside the cabin and can only heard outside. The noise also only appears when it is warmed (engine running for about 3 - 5 minutes after cold start). I read from other board about a loose or worn out heat shield so I went under the car and try to look for a loose of broken parts but I cant find any. I removed the cat heat shield but the problem still exist. I don't know what else to check. Car seems run normal, I don't notice any change in performance and no check engine or what so ever. I just wan't to make sure it is not something on the engine, transmission, or something that will snowball to a bigger issues. I don't know how long its been rattling but I just noticed it the other day.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2001 Honda Civic, 4 door, 144K, original owner, 5 speed transmission with brand new tires and new brakes all around. Whenever going around a sharp curve, there is noise coming from the back, almost as if the tire is scraping the wheel well. The new tires are the same size as the OEM tires that came with the car brand new. My thought is perhaps work out shocks?
View 3 RepliesIt's a 2004 Honda LX... We bought a car that had previously been damaged to the right rear. They had fixed it up and all. When I got it, the car was already pulling left so I eventually took it to get an alignment.
After the alignment the technician told me that it still might pull because of how the tires were worn - and it still pulled left.
This past Saturday I decided to get a lot done: 4 new tires, an alignment, break pads changed, and the rotors were resurfaced.
I tested the alignment on the freeway and local flat roads and it still pulls left.
I'm thinking this problem still has to do with the previous damage, which parts could be causing it so I can pitch it to the shop I'll be taking it to?
I have a 2014 Sonata GLS with only 4200 km on it, purchased new in August 2014. The car has been flawless...until yesterday. I took the car for its first oil/filter change and asked them to check tire pressure at the same time...this was at a Hyundai dealership, btw.
I left the dealership and immediately noticed that the car was swaying and more wobbly than normal (i can make it bounce from side to side by moving my body in the driver's seat), and when I make a right turn there is an awful squeal from the right-front tire.
I've done some online research today but couldn't get back to the dealer before they closed to look at it. Most posts I've read point to under inflated tires, but there are others that say wheel bearing and more.
My 2004 Honda Accord Coupe has around 80,000 miles on it. Right now i am experiencing "chomping" or irregular wear on my tires. The inside quarter seems to be wearing at a significantly higher rate than the rest of the tire. However the outer edges have a very "wavy" wear to them as well. The right side of the car is much worse than the left side on both the front and rear tires. I do have direcitonal tires so i only rotate them front to back not side to side.
Research says that it is struts but when i asked my Honda technician he said to push down on the front and rear bumpers and if the car levels off within one and a half bounces it’s not the struts. I did that and it leveled off both on the front and rear. They don’t' appear to be leaking or have anything wrong with them.
So that left me thinking it was a balancing issue. I then went and got my tires balanced and the issue hasn't gone away.
I drive a '14 Civic, 19k miles, and I just recently had the alignment adjusted on the car. I'm driving with snow tires in upstate new york.There's a stretch of the nys thruway that's grooved-- vertical grooves-- and my car wobbles from side to side so much on this stretch, i have to drive with 2 hands and hope a semi doesn't wobble back into me! Could it be the snow tires? Something else? Can't be the alignment, I just had that fixed!
View 15 RepliesI found this thread in the Corolla forums and was curious as to what pattern people use here since I will be rotating the tires on my '07 Camry myself for the first time. The manual says to use Pattern D for non-directional tires, but my Civic manual and a few other cars I have looked up suggest using Pattern C, which make more sense to me as it would seem to provide more even wear on both sides of the tire by crossing them to opposite sides of the car.
View 5 RepliesI had my 20,000 mile tire rotation and 2nd oil change done at 23,500 miles. Service tech suggested I still return around 25,000 for my last free rotation.
Does it make sense to do that, since I'd only have 1500 miles on the current rotation?
While I was having my tires rotated yesterday, the last floorjack was being lowered just in front of my driver's side rear tire when there was a noticeable hissing sound. The outer lip of the plate on the floorjack caught on the line going to my front suspension and the front of the car went down.
I'm borrowing a picture that Michael posted earlier and hopefully I've labelled the correct items in the picture. His previous red arrows were for pointing out the oval holes in the bottom of the car that can get damaged in towing.
The owner of the shop that did it drove my car slowly to the VW dealer that was within a couple miles. I've allowed them to do a repair to the line that meets VW specs. Some type of male/female brass connection that will save several hundred dollars on the repair that the tire shop will be paying for.
I'm surprised that VW placed the air lines so close to one of the lift points.
Is it possible to cause damage to the air shocks when they are lowered all the way down like that? I'm hoping not. I figured it probably was better to drive the car to the dealership instead of risking any damage that could have been caused by putting it on a flatbed.
My dealer says F-B and B-F only. Declined to put spare into rotation... 4 tires were rotated @ 5, 10, 15K. Don't see/feel any cupping yet, but would expect that next. Car was aligned around 5K, as was/is not 100% stable in direction, with slight wander. [no accidents/curb hits/pothole damage, etc.] Run 33-34 psi F&R, as rec by dealer [vs specs @ 32 psi]. Only 1-2 total people on board, mostly. At just under 18K on factory Michelins, getting some tire 'yammer' around 45 mph.Do you cross rotate?

View 2 RepliesThe 2010 Corolla Manual illustrates on page 329 pattern "D" as if to suggest we have "same size directional" tires. It is my understanding directional tires will have an arrow on the sidewall. If it doesn't have an arrow, it's non-directional and it doesn't matter which way it rotates. I don't see an arrow on my tires. Which of the following patterns are you using?
