My 2005 Grand Am is stuck in park. It has been difficult to shift for the past day or two, but today it just won't budge. Putting the car in accessory and trying to shift from there doesn't work either. What might be wrong?
View 2 RepliesI've a 1998 Kia Sephia with AT. It was hit by a tree when Irene hit and was sitting in my driveway for a month while I did some minor body repairs. Now I cant shift it out of Park! I took the console off to look at the shifter. The interlocks work (shifter button and break) but the cable that goes to the shift lever on the trans wont budge.
Is their something on the transmission that would prevent it from shifting? Or is the transmission itself frozen? Would changing AT fluid or an additive? The car is parked right in front of my garage (nose in), so I cant budge it or tow it!
I'm having an issue with my clutch and I'm really in a hole. Two days ago I was driving my car and everything was fine. Later in the day the shifter got stuck and would not budge out of 5th gear. Eventually it popped out. Driving like normal again and then yesterday I was on my way home from work and all hell broke loose. I was a mile away from my house and the car would not shift into any gear without a fight.
I also at this time lost my clutch pedal. It went really soft but did come back up.. it would not engage however. Limped it the rest of the way home and took a look at it. What I came across was a full brake/clutch reservoir, no leaks around the slave, and I didn't see any leaks around the master. I will say that after the car sat for about 10 mins the pedal felt normal again but quickly went soft after a few pumps.
2.0 AEG 5spd. Trans code DZQ if any of that would be relevant..
So, I'm a college student who drives a 2002 Toyota sienna mini van who knows next to nothing about cars. I ran into a problem the other day where I couldn't turn my key passed accessory. The key would get stuck and it wouldn't budge any farther. I was able to take the Ignition Cylinder/Switch/Lock/I dont know what its called out of my car. The key is now stuck in the ignition cylinder in the lock position and it wont turn to accessory or pull out. I have seen a few videos on how to fix the tumbler by taking out the split wafer that is broken. I just need to get to the tumbler. There is a picture attached of what I have now

A bit of a long story, but brought my 2005 automatic honda civic into a mechanic for timing belt changeout (im at 112k miles) but expressed my concern over a noise persisting for approx. a week, sounding like it was stuck in a lower gear... but RPMs were fine. The mechanic looked at it all day and came to the vague conclusion that a bearing in the final gear of the transmission was busted. Brought it in for the diagnostics and had to take their mechanic on a test drive so he would hear what noise I was talking about. OK, days later = new transmission. Within 24 hours I hear a noise mimicking what I heard prior to work. They tell me its a wheel bearing that they couldn't properly diagnose without first replacing the transmission. Why not replace the wheel bearing before the transmission? How can they prove to me what was the real problem if I am still hearing noises?!
48 hours after getting the car back I wake up and start the car to warm her up before driving to work. She sits in park, running, for approx. 10 minutes and when I hop in, step on the brakes and try to pop it into drive from park, she is locked up and will not shift anywhere. In a panic I call honda and they tell me about a little 'trap door' i can pop off next to my shifter and manually flip it out of park. Fine. It works and I get to work, then have no problems getting my car into drive until the next morning when the exact same thing happens. (It is suggested it is a brake switch, but once it got into drive the brake lights worked fine.) So, this next morning I can not manually pop it into drive. It is currently at that Honda dealership, and has been there for 5 days, where, of course, they have not had ONE problem getting the car into drive.
My truck gear shift is stuck in Park (console type). I have been reading threads that discuss potential causes such as blown fuses, bad brake switch, bad brake shift interlock actuator, and even ignition switch. All fuses are okay. Before I try to get into all the other possibilities, I have a question around what the local auto parts worker suggested. He said that there is a small plastic piece that may have slipped down interfering with gear movement. This could make sense, especially since the white manual release lever doesn't seem to be moving.

I have a 2005 and the passenger window decided to stop working; it is halfway down and won't budge. Is there a seperate fuse for the individual windows? If so where are they?
View 2 RepliesThe parking brake lever on my '05 Escape will not budge, is there a simple solution to this problem or do I most likely need the whole cable assembly replaced? Is there any particular spot on the cable that's most susceptible to seizing from rust that I could soak with penetrating oil to free it up? I know the inner cable comes out of the coiled metal, conduit-like outer part and is exposed where it attaches to the rear brakes. Is this most likely the spot that's causing the problem?

View 6 RepliesI replaced the thermostat in my 2000 3.1L Grand Prix SE yesterday. I had to remove the throttle body to get access to it. After putting it all back together, my car now idles around 3000rpm in Park or Neutral. It drops to around 2k when driving which is still a little high. I can definitely feel it taking off faster and it seems to buck a little bit here and there while driving. I did hear a loud hissing sound when I first started it up right around the throttle body area. I don't hear the hissing sound anymore, though. It justs sounds like it's running a lot harder. So my question is, would a leak around the throttle body (I did not use a new gasket and it's possible that the gasket wasn't properly seated) cause these symptoms? On the plus side, my car seemed to heat up super fast!
View 2 RepliesI have a grand prix and am having problems with the air flow. I think that the diverter is stuck/broke as air flow blows through all vents (defroster, 4 dash vents and floor). When I turn the switch that tells where the air to blow out, nothing happens. In the summer, the A/C works but since it comes out the floor vent my toes get cold. Does this sound like the diverter is stuck? Is there a way I could make the diverter only come out the dash vents? The car has 180K miles and I don't want to invest much money to fix this (i.e. taking to dealer).
View 3 RepliesI just changed my fuel filter and now I am having issues with the idle/accelator. When I get the car going to a speed of 40mph for example, I let off the gas and the speed barely drops. Then when I went down a side street about 20 mph, I let off the gas and the car just kept going. The idle was initally high, but then dropped down to it's normal 800rpm.
The only thing I touched under the hood was releasing the pressure from the fuel pressure regulator before the fuel filter change. I just removed the idle control unit and cleaned it but that didn't work.

Last night my wife discovered that her headlights would not turn on. The flash-to-pass functions work but the headlights will not illuminated. I am going to replace the 20A CB and see if that's the cause of the problem.
View 4 RepliesI have been trying to move my vehicle. It starts but does not let me put it in gear. It's stuck to park. Whole bunch of warning lights came on. I have the check engine, abs, EPC, traction control and parking brake(even if it is not on) lights. A real Christmas tree. What it is.

View 4 RepliesI have a 2005 Grand AM SE v6, 3.4 that I had purchased used in 2008 with less than 23,000 miles. It is now at 52,000 miles. My troubles started less than a year after I bought it. In the last 4 years I have viewed just about every forum on the issues I am having, but I have not come across any with the same issues, there is usually a slight difference. Here are the details.
Car has hard starting problems randomly. Engine always turns over but does not always fire. Sometimes it starts right up, other times it takes several attempts. Totally random.
Car randomly shuts off while driving. Just cuts power, no warning..no sounds. No specific speed, totally random.
When starting, with the key in the "on" position, if the "service engine" light DOES come on..the car will start 100 percent of the time. If the "service engine" light does NOT come on, the car WILL NOT start 100% of the time. This is totally random also, but the car will ALWAYS eventually start.
Once the car starts, it runs fine..sometimes it shuts off , sometimes it doesn't. I've had the fuel pump pressure checked ( right up to specs). Replaced the Ignition Module. Replaced the Fuel pump Relay.
No codes come up at all. Both my mechanic and a friend of mine ( and my own observations from reading forums) lead us to believe it is a PCM issue..but another thought I have is possibly the connections (fusible links?)
Is it possible for me to take the PCM to have it tested and would a local mechanic be able to so that or will I have to contact a GM guy?
Have a 2002 Dodge Dakota automatic. This winter when temps. dropped into lows 10s and zero degree weather, the Dodge truck would start,but would not come out of park gear. Have replaced interlock solenoid and brake light switch. Still have same problem when Temperature drops into low 10s &below. Otherwise,everything ok. (not using ER brake).

View 5 RepliesJust bought a '97 Buick LaSabre in great condition (Grandma-owned), 74K miles. Only problem is when I turn on the car I have to wait 1 to 1-1/2 minutes to get it out of park.... as if it needs to "warm up" before changing gears.
View 9 RepliesMy 2005 Grand Caravan has a leak in the A/C under the dash. The mechanics say they will need to tear out the dash to get to it and it will cost $1000. As this car needs a couple of more things and I just repaired the battery and alternator, I don't want to put this money into it. Will anything seize up if I just let it go? It's August and summer will be over soon. Can I just deal with it or will this cause further problems?
