Grand AM :: 2003 - AC Throw No Air When Turned On
Jul 27, 2014
I have a 2003 Grand am when I turn on the a/c it stalls out. I disconnected the compressor and it runs fine when turned on just no air . Could it be the compressor or the electrical?

What is the throw distance of the actuator arm for the wastegate on a stock 2002 7.3L Excursion turbo?
Or how far the wastegate needs to move?
I'm thinking about using a 12v linear actuator to control it so I can trigger it from my gauge alarms for high boost, high EGT, low Fuel pressure, anything really

I have a 2003 pontiac grand am, getting no fuel, pump won't run. I put in a new pump, filter, and changed the relay. Sometimes the pump will kick on and i can start the car, but not today. Took apart the fuse box and could see no visible problems inside.

I have a 2003 Grand AM GT 3.4 with 166,000 miles, its hard to explain but will try. When your first taken off the car seems like its holding back, but then once you hit 3,000 rpm's with the gas pedal still pressed the same amount the car takes right off like it has a power band. Same thing regardless happens all the time under 3,000rpm.
Going down the highway at 70 and you start to go up a slight incline, you give it a little gas and you can feel the car having lack of power, then you press a bit more on the gas and it kicks down a gear and goes. Then back in the same situation once back under 3,000 rpm.
The car idles normal, check engine light will come on once in a while, but goes back off before i have a chance to see what code it is. I do notice when the check engine light comes on, you can feel the car lack power for just a second. I just replaced the o2 sensor today thinking it was that.

My brother has an 03 GA GT. The car recently started bogging down on acceleration. It tops out at about 25 mph, and full throttle causes the car to stall. He was throwing a code for the egr valve, and replaced that. Then he threw a code for maf sensor, swapped it and no change. We've also changed the MAP, TPS, IAC, O2, Coolant Temp sensor; so far, no luck. I don't know much about these cars?

I have a 2003 grand am auto with a 2.2 the other day the battery light came on and my car just died. it started right back up, went sluggish for a mile and stalled again. Thinking a battery problem a couple of hours later a friend came with some cables, but oddly enough it started up on its own again. Only to stall out in less than a mile. My friend suggested I check the oil, which was about quart and a half low, the car started right up. It seemed to run pretty well, the battery light came on again but the car seemed okay. the second i touched the rear defrost button the car all the lights went on, my dash looked like a Christmas tree. I am at a loss. I know my air filter needs changing as well but not sure how that would come into play.

Just wondering if I will know via a check engine light if when my Diverter valve may act up. I don't really want to add a boost gauge if I can let the onboard diagnostics do the work for me. So if I loose boost will I know?

I have an 01 Prius I bought used last summer. I have never been able to get air from the center vents or the floor. Last weekend I decided to troubleshoot the problem. I watched the servomotor (on the driver's side of the vent control box) to see if it did anything when I switched between defrost, floor and face and nothing happened. I took the servomotor off and manually moved the vent controls and I was able to get air out of the floor but no matter what position I put the levers/controls in, I was never able to get air out of the center vents.
I hooked the servomotor directly to the battery and it spun just fine.

So after installing the short throw shifter I ran into an issue. My reverse is actually first gear, i do not have second gear, 3-6 work fine so far and i do not have a reverse. also my shifter doesn't seem to move far enough to the left.
We took the short shifter out and put the factory one back in and it still doesn't work. Is it possible for me not to have to take it to VW? i feel like they're going to tell me I need to replace I don't need and how to fix it.
Also, I drive a 2013 jetta GLI but its the same set up for a mk6 GTI....

I have a 2003 Pontiac Gran Am GT 3.4 and i just noticed yesterday when i start my car now it sounds like i have one lifter that is fairly loud, it goes away about 10 minutes after its running. It did it for the first time when we were at the inlaws yesterday, after a few hours of sitting i went out to warm the car up and heard it. Then in the evening after sitting for a few hours i went out to warm it up and did it again. is it possible to be dirty and need something ran though the engine like seafoam?

I have a 2003 pontiac grand am gt 3.4. About 5 days ago my change oil light came on and did not have time to do it at that point. Then 1 day later my service vehicle soon light came on, I thought it was due to the change oil light being on. Then next day, I changed my oil and pushed the reset button in, let the light flash then held it in until the change oil light went out. But my service vehicle light stayed on, took it to AutoZone and they put the scanner on it and the scanner did not show one thing wrong. So I had him clear the code and the light stayed of for about 10 seconds then came right back on! Is it a faulty issue or what?

We have a 2003 Grand Prix. For the last few years it has this intermittent problem. Sometimes it just won't start and occasionally it will die while stopped at an intersection. I did some digging online and found out what the likely culprit is, but do not know how to fix it. I already spent a lot of money for a mechanic to claim he fixed it, but didn't.
According to online sources [URL] .... the security system TDM is at fault. It stops recognizing the VATS transponder in the key and thinks the car is being stolen. So, it cuts the connection to the engine. Clearly a dangerous situation if you are driving. My 17 yo daughter recently got stuck in a very busy intersection.
The temporary fix is to turn the key to the on position without turning the engine, wait 10 minutes then try starting the car. This is supposed to reset the security system. Now this is starting to not work. Someone suggested bypassing or modulating the TDM signal by adding in a resistor. I really don't feel equipped to do this though. Another solution is to buy a bypass module.

I occasionally drill-down to check on pending codes, and my 2007 Prius likes to generate a LOT of them. Maybe pending codes don't count unless they escalate to an active code that triggers the check engine light.

20thae with a UR 7lb flywheel and spec stage 3 clutch. Got rid of the dual mass flywheel and installed a lightweight flywheel and spec clutch now i have a god awful noise that is dead ringer for a throw out bearing noise. talked to the spec guy at waterfest today and he told me that the dual mass acts as a dampener and this just doesn't make any sense in my head. touch the clutch pedal in any gear at any speed and the noise disappears.. uy at spec said it was in the trans and the only option was to change for a thicker gear oil. p.s. i took out the clutch and everything back apart and measured everything is oem thickness and the throw out bearing is in good shape.

When my xenon lights are on they throw a shadow out to about 20 feet in front of the car. This is on a golf 2010 TDI.. It is a narrow shadow angled to the right and one to the left.
Is there something wrong with my Lights or do I need to change setting somehow? They are plenty bright but it is odd the lighting in front has this marking in it. BTW the fogs are not on nor does putting them on change this.. Noticed this on low beams and perhaps on high as well..

I have a '10 manual trans gti. Only 16k miles on it. When starting cold and on an incline/decline at a certain level of clutch play, the transmission emits an odd chirping/whirring noise. Aside from the noise, the transmission is butter.
I brought in into the shop to get inspected and was able to replicate the noise for the technician. His thought was a bad throwout bearing.
Here's where it gets interesting. They quoted me about $600 labor just to confirm the issue. Should it be the throwout bearing, the replacement would be covered under warranty. labor would also be included. However, if they found it to be a wear product it would obviously be on me and stupid expensive.
Some people also thought maybe the clutch plate fingers are slipping? (I don't know that much about cars..)

so lately I've been noticing a slight rattling/knocking noise coming from my car while it is in neutral and the clutch is not pushed it. When I push the clutch in, the noise goes away. I've read that this could be a sign of a bad throw out bearing? Is this right? If it is the throw out bearing, how long can I expect until it completely craps out on me? It seems to only do it on cold starts and sometimes on the uneven ground. I figured I should start saving some money to have this done because I'm not comfortable doing it myself.
Some other questions I had is my car is a 24v VR6 and it has 144k original miles. The timing chains and guides have not been replaced (to my knowledge at least). I know that replacing the throwout bearing requires removal of the transmission and so does doing the lower timing chain. If I get my throw out bearing replaced, should I have them do the chains also since they are already in there? I have no noise coming from my chains at all so there are no signs that they are going bad. Also, should I have my clutch replaced while they are in there? Again, no signs of a bad clutch either.

I bought a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am a month ago, I have already replaced the power steering pump, the water pump, plugs and wires, new battery. It was running fine I drove it last night, but the radio has said loc since I bought it. Then today I got in it and tried to start it and it won't start. It turns over like it is going to start but doesn't. I tried the 10 minute reset thing. That didn't work.

I have a 2003 dodge grand caravan with about 111,000 miles on it. Overall it has been a reliable car. In the past month we had to replace the ECM because the computer died on the car. Now, very intermittently, while driving at about 60 mph the car will suddenly drop to 40 mph then shoot right back to where it was at 60. This only happens for about a second and then its fine.
Its quite startling but it has only happened to us 3 times in the past two weeks, so its very hard to replicate. There are no engine codes and it seems like the tachometer does not change during this sudden drop, although to be honest I wasn't paying that close attention to it when it happened.
Could it be related to the recent ECM replacement? The dealer "reprogrammed" the computer so I'm assuming all parts electrically have been checked.

The other day my transmission was driving fine, until I stopped to let someone out. When I tried to throw it back into gear, it wouldn't engage at all, just had a slight grind almost like the sound of a chain coming off a bike (so I pushed back in the clutch and parked it). I haven't been having any issues with it nor have I been driving it hard.
