So every time I let off the gas pedal I get this knock coming from the front of the car.

After my coilover install there is a small knock coming from both sides in the front that wasn't there before..sounds and acts like a swaybar link but they don't have play and I replaced them and the noise is still there. I also reused the the shock tops?

View 2 RepliesIt only seems to happen every few days. I have noticed it when I come to a stop, then I hear a repetitive knock coming from under the front passenger side of the car. knock, knock... 7 times, in rhythm, not decreasing in volume, then it stops. Kind of like a gnome trying to get in from under the car... It does not sound like something is flapping or swinging as the knocks are consistent, it sounds mechanical in nature. The car is at the dealer right now for that and other things but they cannot get it to make that noise.

View 4 RepliesI have a 2003 Volvo C70 that I've owned since 2004. In February, I ordered struts for the front with all the trimmings, (spring seat, strut mount, bump stop, etc) from FCP Euro. The struts were Sachs 553-058, which are supposed to be as good if not better than the original struts. I installed them myself, meticulously following the instructional video FCP publishes on YouTube. Installation went very smoothly. Afterwards, I noticed a rattle/knock coming from the right front when I drove over a bump or rough area.
I took it to a local tire/brake place that I have a good bit of confidence. After driving the car, the guy says, "You gotta bad strut!" Called FCP. They sent me a new strut. I installed it and sent the other back. Sounded a LOT better—for about two weeks. Now I am hearing the sound on both sides. I took it to a very reputable Volvo mechanic, I have used since the warranty expired. He drove it, confirmed the sound was not normal. We put it on the lift and he checked everything on the front suspension and was stumped. He said there was nothing wrong with my installation, no problem with the suspension.
Okay, FCP has an unconditional satisfaction guarantee, so I could replace these with a more expensive strut for say $50 more, but is the problem with the struts? I would hate to have to do this installation again and still have the same problem.

So this just started happening last night and I haven't had time yet to get the car in a rack. There is now a fairly loud knock (changes frequency with speed) coming from under my right foot while coasting in gear. It does not affect steering, braking, handling (from what I can tell), or acceleration. The knock it not there while coasting in neutral. My concern is that it may be a mount that is loose.
View 4 RepliesI have been hearing/feeling an occasional noise from my front end. Not a low-freq "thud" more like something sticky. Usually at very slow speeds, when turning the wheel, going over uneven pavement, or pulling away from stop. It sounds and feels to me like a steering rack issue, but maybe CV joints? 40k miles, 6-spd manual no mods.
View 3 RepliesI own a 2004 VW GTI VR6, with 70k miles. i bought it used (at 40k) from carmax. Ever since I've owned it I have had a problem with a single loud knock sound i can hear from my front left wheel.
it happens in two scenarios1) when i back out of a parking space and start turning my wheel - it's only a single knock (hence i don't think it's the CV, and its been pretty constant for at least 2 years), and happens at about halfway through the steering wheel travel.2) it also happens when i accelerate hard, or decelerate. it's a single knock, or pop, or clunking sound. it almost feels like something is loose, or reseating itself as the car puts pressure on the wheel as i accelerate, and then again once again when the car decelerates.
it's pretty damn loud, and disconcerting... i can feel it in the steering wheel as well. it seems to be louder when the car has not been driven for a few days.
I've taken the car back to carmax several times over the past three years but they have not been able to find the fault. they have replaced my engine mounts twice (in 30k miles that I've had the car), which i also think is a little weird. they have also replaced all the tie rod ends, etc. - all the obvious stuff.
I am at my wit's end here - carmax pretty much think I'm crazy, and my warranty has run out, but i think I've bought a car that was in an accident - i'm expecting my front end to fall apart one day as I'm driving...
Is it just me or does the R have a tendency to get a little warm by the gas pedal feel the heat towards my leg right by my shin and knee is this normal??
View 9 RepliesI have a 2001 ram 1500 4x4. For the past 2 weeks, when I touch the brake pedal I can hearing a ticking noise coming from the front driverside wheel. The ticking frequency is speed dependent. I had the brakes replaced, and the shop could not find the ticking noise. The truck performs get and there are no braking problems other than the ticking sound, but now for the strange part...
My abs and brake light are now coming on. However, as soon as my abs and brake light come on, usually on the freeway around 65mph, the ticking noise from braking is gone. So with no abs and brake light, brand new brakes tick at the slightest touch of the brake pedal, with the ticking freq. equal to wheel revs.
With abs and brake light on, no ticking. Plus the shop said that I only have abs in the rear.
About 9/10 times when I step on my brake pedal (speed has not made a difference) I can hear and feel a hard knock under my car by my resting left foot. Started a few weeks ago. Haven't had work done to my brakes since May 2015 so I am thinking it is unrelated. What the issue might be?
View 2 RepliesSo for the past few weeks, i was getting this weird vibration coming from my brake pedal.. When I am about at 40 mph driving and braking or even when I am slowing down with out braking it vibrates.. I checked my wheel bearings.. I don't think that it.. since my steering wheel is not shaking when i brake, i think my rear rotors would be warped..
Also my idle is weird on my car.. I switched my coils and plugs.. it jumps.. really slightly and there is a big one.. when I opened my hood up there is this weird noise like a rattling noise and that is when the idle jumps up and down.. something like this [URL]....
I changed my oem clutch in my mk4 golf 2.0l with a stage 1 ecs tuning clutch kit. Lightweight flywheel, clutch disk, pressure plate and throw out bearing. But since I have my clutch pedal has been less stiff then usual. I like my clutch pedal as stiff as possible but it just isn't I bled off the slave cylinder. When I was done no air was coming out but it is still way to soft for me. What should I do next??
View 6 Replieswhen the car has been driving for at least 20-30mins and you come to a stop (either lights or parking lot) as you release the brake pedal the rear knocks. it will also do this sometimes as you apply the brake and shifting from neutral to drive or reverse.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2003 passat. I have noticed, and its getting gradually worse, a knock that comes from the dash. I get one knock when I go round a corner and then a similar knock when I go round an opposite corner. Its as if something is rocking from side to side.
It sounds like its coming from behind the dash just off center to the left. Perhaps behind the passenger airbag? Its difficult to tell exactly.
I recently bought a 2007 Passat 3.6 and am now noticing an odd sound from the motor. When I am at parking lot speed, just barely giving it gas (1000 RPM or so) I can hear a dull, almost rhythmic knock coming from the motor. It's similar to an exhaust "lub-dub" sound, but not. I brought it to the dealer under it's bumper to bumper warranty and they told me that it is a normal sound for the vehicle "in this configuration". Is this really normal?? I'm worried that it isn't, and just about the time I'm out of warranty it'll be a big deal. The car has 32K on it and the engine has 20K. Yep...it blew and was completely replaced at 11K.

I purchased a warranty 7/100,000 mile. Did oil changes myself every 5k full synthetic. when the car developed a knock i noticed the engine oil was scary low. Since i got my car from the time i got it at 19k and i bought the 7/100,000 mile warranty on top of that.
View 3 RepliesI bought a 2002 W8 92k Miles from a dealer for a very cheap price, KBB 9k, i paid 2k because there was a engine knock *gasp* i know. The body/interior is in good shape. From what I was told the noise was coming from the 'upper' part of the engine..I was hoping it was probably a bad lifter, not a big problem. So the car was trucked to me yesterday, it drives fine still but the engine noise was more severe than i thought. I'm 95% sure it's a spun rod bearing. I'm stressing .
I own a 2 ton gray monument. I cant spend that much money right now on just an engine and a rebuild might be just as expensive. I'm hoping (I need to stop that) that maybe i can drop the oil pan, inspect/remove the rod caps and maybe replace the bearings or push the pistons out the top. In my mind I know the crankshaft was probably scared too but im keeping my hopes high that it wasnt. If thats the case then the whole engine will need to be removed.
I know it not a good idea to buy a car with a knock but that was the condition or the purchase. I want to atleast try to get an idea of the work needed before considering parting it out.
I have an 03 Elantra and before joining this I have never paid much attention to the sound coming from the engine but now that ive seen a few videos and looked at some threads I think the engine in my Elantra knocks a bit.

It sort of sounds like this but a little less intense. Its definitely knocking but not as loud as the video. It does it all the time, not only when its cold but when its warm too... Its always sounded like that but I haven't ever paid any attention to it.
Anyways... after a whole day of reading about gas and octane and all that fun stuff I am not sure whether to try midgrade or primium gas...
Our 2003 Honda Pilot with 130K miles recently developed a front end Knock/rattle, which is sustained at about 70 miles per hour. Dealer "couldn't hear the noise". Tried new tires per dealer suggestion- fail! Recently we towed our 2100 lb pop up with it, and it was MUCH louder, and of course sustained at lower speed. Should we even be towing a pop up with a vehicle that has this many miles on it?
