Just today I started hearing a whining noise from the rear that came and went. I wouldn't be worried but it was so loud that the radio could not drowned it out anymore. The noise when away when I gave the car some throttle so I am thinking its the rear diff. It was pouring down rain and I wonder if there was some part of that that could have had an affect.

View 9 RepliesJust noticed this morning that when I move slowly there is a noise consistent with the cars movement in the rear right side of the car. What could be causing this back there? Almost sound like if the car was moving while the brake was engaged.
View 1 RepliesWhat is probably a common Santa Fe issue. I have a 2005 V6 2.7L model which has traveled 81,000 miles (131,000km). The power steering is and has been working fine, but over recent week has developed 2 symptoms :
a) The reservoir overflows (see pic)
b) There is a whining noise when the vehicle is traveling and when turning the sounds modifies to more of pressure-release type sound. When the vehicle is stationary, the noise is very evident when turning the steering wheel (See video here : Power steering noise - YouTube )
Other things to report are that the reservoir is full but has not needed a top-up for months. The power steering pump appears to be leak free. I have a slow drip from the rack & opinion area (detected at Hyundai first service - about a few drips per day and they decided it didn't warrant fixing)
I have read on this forum the issue may be related to the reservoir filter becoming blocked and this ties in with the fact the rack and pinion has a known drip leak, but I never need to top-up the reservoir.
Over the course of the past week or so, I've been getting an odd noise from the rear driver side of the vehicle. It's kind of a metallic clicking sound, but the clicks are rather erratic. As I accelerate, the duration between clicks decreases. It's not a "click.. click... click..." noise either. More like, "click click... click... click click click... click click..." If that makes any sense at all. I'm thinking that my wheel bearing is going out, but I don't know for certain. What I might be looking at?
View 12 RepliesI am having a problem with my 2007 R32 manual,over the last few weeks its developed a whining noise in what seems to sound from the rear left side,more so when driving around a left hand corner (weight is off the noisy side),or when i let my foot off the gas and let the car run,ive jacked it up and when I grab the back left drive shaft and shake it, I found there's a bit of play on the side going into the diff, there's 70000 miles on it and no problems to date, looking for some info on what problem could be?
View 6 RepliesI've got a steady and consistent high pitched whine coming from the rear of the car. It's only audible when the car is running idle and/or at a standstill, A/C and radio off. Also can't be heard while driving. I've ruled out any rear diff issues and thinking it might be the fuel filter. I recall noticing the sound soon after getting the car, however it's gotten more prevalent recently.

View 2 RepliesHave some 'whine' coming from the rear differential under deceleration. In my case it just started occurring last night and seems to be audible over 55MPH and while in 5th or 6th gear after I let up off the throttle as to engine brake.
It seems like the answer or solution pertains to the input shaft pinion retention nut eventually backing off, as well as oil starvation to the unit, but has this actually been confirmed? My rear diff was replaced over 4 years ago under warranty after it failed and enduring 2 wheel drive for a bit.
My rear brake makes a whining noise when I go on reverse. I know is brake related because while on reverse, if I barely touch the brake pedal the noise goes away. But without touching the brake pedal whines and sometimes loud and is embarrassing.
View 5 RepliesIt happens when I accelerate from 10MPH up to about 70MPH and then is intermittent at higher speeds. The volume and pitch of the whine is constant the whole time I am accelerating. If I brake while accelerating the noise does not change. It is a very high pitched noise almost to the point of being out of range for the ear to hear. The noise is so high pitched that it is hard to determine exactly where it is coming from except I fell like it is behind me. Cornering doesn’t seem to make a difference. I hear it most when I start my commute getting onto the freeway, I have also heard it when I do stop and go while running errands.
View 11 RepliesGot my tires swapped out and noticed a whining sound coming from the rear of the car when I release throttle >40mph. Applying throttle it goes away. Soundalike it's coming from the driveline. Does the Haldex make a whining. It's loader than I would expect. Believe the roar of my winter tires covered it up.

As background I drove my IS250 for about 1hr yesterday and parked it for the night around 10pm inside a garage. This morning at around 7am (9 hours later), I came down to the garage to hear the buzzing "fan" noise. I am not sure what it is. The vehicle was OFF. I managed to record the noise.

That said, the buzzing noise couldn't be something left on overnight... since the battery was fine. The car proceeded to start just fine. What do you think it is? Can it be some sort of fuel vent pump or something?
I have noticed what I can best describe as a squeaky noise that appears to be coming from the rear of the vehicle. At first I thought it was the breaks, (as most of the time when I left off the breaks after being stopped I hear the noise), but I also notice the noise while turning and also when getting into my car to sit in the seat (Or pushing down on the rear of the car). Almost sounds like something in the suspension needs to be lubricated (a bushing perhaps)?
View 1 RepliesI have had my Santa Fe since middle of January and have some issues with rubbing noises and popping noises from the rear of the vehicle since then. The rubbing noise has been resolved, but the popping noise appears to be more of a challenge. I have had the vehicle looked at 4 times.
The way the mechanic at the dealership explained it to me is that between the outer body panel and the inner trim panel there is a piece of sheet metal that is flexing and popping. This is most noticeable at low rates of speed and more when turning left or right.
The past two times the dealer has reposition the pieces and the noise has went way for a few days, but always returns. So today I asked if maybe there was a wield missing or what we do if the problem continues after the latest fix.
One suggestion was to fill the gap between the sheet metal and the body panel. They mentioned foam or cardboard.
I have an 05 V8. When backing out of a parking spot at close to full lock I feel it binding a bit. Also, occasionally when pulling forward (at or close to full lock) it will bind for a few seconds, then it feels like it releases. I recently drove a long (10 hours) trip and when I parked it when hot it seemed to bind/chatter even worse.
I also noticed that on slow hard turn (i.e parking lot) there seems to be a low pitched moaning sound from the rear end area. It it possible it a dreaded stepper motor, even on a 05? It is an early 05. What this might be before doing this so they don't jerk me around and say there's nothing wrong.
I have an 02 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport with 130k miles. It makes a whining noise from the center to rear of the car that gets louder with Acceleration. The second you take your foot off the gas it gets quieter. The noise never completely disappears though. It also doesn't change if I am turning or driving straight.
View 2 RepliesI'm new here to the F-150's forum although I've owned a few since 2001. I bought this F-150 '05 5.4L Lariat. Really nice truck. But when I purchased it, it had this weird noise inside the cabin. I thought because it had a camper on it that some tranny noise was coming up thru the camper and the rear cab. After taking camper off, the noise was still there. From everything I've read online, it could be rear pinion seal, differential bearing, tranny, front hubs, etc. I have left a video. Pay close attention to the little whine. Kinda hard to hear if your not listening for it.
Note- when i drive it is most definitely coming from the middle to rear of the truck. But I'm not ruling out anything. I have looked underneath the truck and the differential is dry and the driveshaft area near diff is dry. No leaks. I have not checked fluid in diff. Is there an easy way for these trucks? I have read and heard about adding an additive? The noise starts at about 10-15 mph all the way up to 80. I've never taken it past 80 but I'm sure it's still there.

I have a noise that has been driving me crazy for a week now. After some investigation I have discounted a few things. To sum up the noise, it seems to be coming from under the vehicle, maybe the passenger rear. It sounds kinda like a jack hammer and it is loud. People on the street can hear it well! There is no consistency in it. I do not here it standing still and it only appears when I am driving. The speed does not matter.
While driving, it will come and go, it will last from 5 seconds to up to 30 seconds. While driving along, it starts, then stops abruptly without dying down. The speed of the "knocking" will follow the speed of the vehicle. If Im going slow (20 mph) it will knock at a slower pace, thus going 65, it is 2 a second. There is nothing loose, I have ruled that out.
Although it does sound like something loose and hitting. I can feel it slightly on the floorboard under the pedals and passenger side. I have to believe it is the rear u-joint? but that was replaced 2 years ago, and I have never heard of a u-joint making this noise.
2005 Sport Trac 4x4... So, my fiance purchased this new off the floor before i met her (or else she wouldn't have bought it). Had a motor issue which required a new motor after 90k miles.. Anyways, while driving on a normal road, i dropped the rear window and hear this whining noise. Checked the transmission fluid and it was a little low, nothing major. Topped it off with Mercon V... No effect. Where do i look next. It does not have a tow package. Do i check the transfer case, or rear differential?.I am thinking differential because the transfer case is more upfront to where the noise is. you cant hear it with front windows down. Only the rear sliding window or rear passenger's windows.
