This has been annoying me a little bit. When I get in my car when it's been raining, I try to wipe my shoes off on the carpet before touching the pedals but all it takes is little bit of water. i hate the squeaking and my foot has slipped off the clutch a few times.
View 7 RepliesAs the temps around here drop, my brake pads have started to squeak like no other. Turning down a small driveway, rolling to a stop at at light.. Just anything in general under 10 mph. I have been pretty happy with my OE pads but I'm wondering if I should use this opportunity to change the pads for some aftermarket bits.
View 16 RepliesMy R has recently started making some horrible grinding noises and was getting a ton of vibration in the pedals. I let it sit after I got home that night and made an appointment for vw. Blah blah blah
It turns out the previous owner had an aftermarket clutch installed in the car, and the flywheel and clutch were reinstalled with all hardware finger tight. I drove the car for a yaer and a half, 30k, without knowing until the sound started.
Ive been told the clutch is now destroyed and warranty wont cover it. VW says I need a new flywheel and clutch kit. Since they aren't covering it, I am thinking maybe upgrades are in order.
Should i stay with oem flywheel and clutch? Or go with a lightened flywheel and stage 1 clutch etc. Is it worth it to upgrade?
Mods are c2 race file, evoms cai, koni coils, usp hi flow cats in the test pipe, short throw kit. I will have cams installed at some point and it might see sc down the road. No turbo or big hp.
After heavy rains there has been water on the floor behind the drivers seat or down by the pedals (depending on how the car is parked). Is this the result of a bad door seal? It definitely seems to be coming in around the door.
View 17 RepliesTried to do some searching regarding this and info was pretty thin. When I'm up at highway speeds there is an obnoxious howl transmitting through the steering wheel. On occasion it will go away but it's generally there. There is some vibration coming through and it's driving me absolutely nuts - it almost makes the car feel overweight and sluggish, but that may just be in my head.
I had 4 new tires put on and an alignment done around 3 weeks ago, so it shouldn't be related to that. I was told that my right rear Aristo has a slight bend in it, but would that cause such a harsh reaction? I was thinking wheel bearings but I really don't know how to check for that.
I was driving down a steep hill the other night, going about 10 mph. It was very slick, with a few inches of somewhat wet snow. All settings were normal, and when I started to gain speed, I stepped on the brakes. As the wheels locked up and the ABS kicked in, I could not get enough traction to slow down, and I wound up sliding through the upcoming intersection. Fortunately, no one was coming, so I was OK.
I have a lot of experience with ABS. My question is this... Should I have engaged LOW, and relied on Hill Decent to maintain my speed, or should I have just made sure that my speed never increased but remained in HIGH? Or is sliding down a slope like this inevitable?
I just notice this problem after I bought this used 05 Camry I4. When I was running at a mild speed said 30-40 miles, the engine will accelerate by itself and the RMP will jump to around 3000-4000 instantly with a pretty loud noise like you are stepping on gas while stay at N gear and the speed won't go up a little bit. The problem seems won't cause much impacts on driving since the RMP will drop to normal very quickly and such thing only happen occasionally. After doing some search online, I really don't know what kind of problem it is, I did check my transmission fluid lever and found it is in normal area.
View 13 RepliesI have a 2006 VW Rabbit with 106k miles. It is an automatic. Strange problem: if it is raining AND the traction control symbol comes on (I slip), then the EPC light comes on and the car is slow to shift and has poor acceleration. This does not happen if it is not raining and it does not happen just when it's raining. One mechanic recommended cleaning the throttle body, but since the car runs great all other times, this didn't make sense to me.
View 1 RepliesMy 2013 Sonata 2.4L 4cyl is very hard to drive when it's slippery out (snow, ice).
The throttle is so touchy, it just wants to spin as soon as you touch the gas pedal. It's manageable on dry pavement. It has always been like this since new, but this winter there's been so much snow I'm getting a little annoyed by it. Even with traction control I have a hard time making headway from a dead start.
Tires should be OK - only have 12,000 miles on them.
Is there a cure for this issue? Re-mapping EFI??
I been having this problem for a couple of day now the problem seem to be coming form the the low right part of the driver seat. Things that i have done :
1. lube all moving part of the seat with out removing the seat
2. bring the seat up and down and move all part.this seen to work but temp
Recently did Transmission rebuild soon after noticed that it's slippery. When I start the car in the morning it's not rolling as it should. I let it worm little like 3minutes then start driving but still it's slippery when it comes to a very little hill not taking the gear. After driving on the straight road for 4-5 blocks then its fine no problem at all. Only when car gets cold this issue happen.
View 3 RepliesSo two weeks after an unreasonably stiff rear sway bar install, my back doors seem to have gotten rather squeaky when roads are anything but perfect. Opening them and giving them a tight close seems to satisfy them for a few minutes, but I need a better solution.
Is this just a job for some silicone spray in the latches? Hinges?
Bump the sway bar down to 90%?
Is there an adjustment somewhere I could be doing to tighten everything up?
It's kind of weird, when I turn into a corner that is packed with snow - my traction control light kicks on like it does, but it feels like the brakes are being applied.
View 3 RepliesMy car is a 99.5 Jetta 2.0 5 speed. Recently it had developed a squeak coming from the front right wheel. It speeds up/slows down based on vehicle speed. I jacked up the car to examine and once the wheel was off I checked everything and it appeared fine. Wheel bearing, tierod, and ball joint all replaced a few months ago, and brake pads and rotors replaced a week ago.
With the wheel off I spun rotor and it did still make the noise. That being said it rules out the possibility of anything to do with the wheel or any bushings. Obvious answer would be the brakes but they are brand new and appear fine. Anything missing?
I just recently bought an R about a month ago. I am having a problem with my brakes. It seems that every time I hit the brakes and come to a complete stop my brakes scream with this annoying squeaky sound ... My car has a little over 800 miles haven't driven hard, or dogged the car just been taking it nice and smooth for a proper break in.
View 20 RepliesFor the past few weeks, I thought I was hearing something squeak but I always passed it off as just the radio, but this morning I had the radio off and heard it again (and more intensely) The closest thing I could think it sounded like was when you drag your hand over a latex balloon.
Is it possible that this was a puck that didn't get removed? I'm at about 4500 miles and I got the car at 300 and would dread to think that I've been driving around with it all that time.
So, simple question. I have a squeaky driver side door.
I'm interested in some color matching door grease. I've always hated the black gunky door grease. Why? Cause I'm OCD. I saw on the MKVI R [on CW anyways] their door hinge grease was color matched.
If this is too absurd, any recommendations for removing/cleaning the grease currently on the door hinge and replacing it? It comes off as straight forward.
The rear end on my truck feels slippery when starting to drive from a stop sometimes, and also when you drop the hammer to pass vehicles on the highway. Had the clutch packs replaced last year and did not solve the issue but found that maybe they were tightened too much. Also, who builds the differential that they would have put in that truck?
View 12 RepliesI have Bluewater adjustable control arms, they have been on the car for about 22 months, and for the last few weeks they have been squeaking and creaking like a bastard, over any imperfection in the road.
We had the car up on the lift, and twisted the control arms, and it's definitely coming from there. I'm not the best mechanic in the world, pretty far from it, so is there a way to remedy this without replacing them? It sounds like I'm fornicating in a 1986 Caprice every time I hit a bump.
So I'm approaching my first service interval and I'm wanting the dealer to check out a few minor issues I've been having with my GTI. Namely, a squeaky sunroof when it's cold out, slight vent fan rattle, and the occasional "fish bite" from the engine. I've already talked to the dealer and told them of the issues and they seemed reluctant to give me a loaner if the car takes longer than a day.
