Golf VI R :: Fuel Cut In 3rd Gear At 6500 RPMs
Jan 20, 2013
I got a fuel cut tonight in 3rd gear at 6500rpms. First time, 30 degrees outside. Carbonio the only other mod. Looks like I need a HPFP next.

View 24 RepliesOur red line is at 6k rpm, but I accidentally revved it to about 6500 in second gear today, and nothing kicked in to stop me. I'm surprised that this car doesn't have a rev limiter at red line. Looking for about rev limits on these engines (2.5)?
View 7 RepliesI upgraded to APR II+ about two months ago and have been having the following issue that has been getting more frequent. During full throttle, now even not at full throttle, the boost will hit 20-24 psi and start creeping down to about 4 at 6500 rpm. I can hear what sounds like the waste hate just dumping in the mid to high rpms. The car feels like it's making no power and when I hit peak recall on my P3cars gauge it will read between 22.1 and 25.1. I have a feeling it's the N75 valve, or whatever it's called. Just wanted some input before I went out to get one. Other info car is at 24,xxx miles, just did an oil change, use different gas stations, and can follower was done about 7,000 miles ago.
View 3 RepliesI recently purchased a 2011 GTI w/ DSG transmission. Today for the first time, I used 'S' mode and while I understand it has a more aggressive shifting, I'm not sure what I saw is normal. The car rev'd to 6500 rpm and it just hanged there and didn't up-shift.
I put the car back into 'D' mode and the rpm still stayed at 6500rpm until I stepped on the brake, that is when it up-shifted. Is it normal? The car was not in manual mode. Car only has 385 miles on it and I sure as heck didn't like seeing the rpm hanging at redline for 5 seconds with so few miles on it.
Pics for clicks:
Me and my buddy that has a 2012 GLI where playing with our cars and i noticed that he is at 4,000rpms in second gear @40mph, while my car (2010GTI) was at 4600rpms....Both of us have 6 speed manuals.. What could cause this other than gearing? I don't think the gearing is different since to my knowledge both cars and trannys are the same...or am i wrong?
View 17 Replies I have been noticing that my GTI seems jerky (head bobbling) at low CONSTANT speeds on the highway during my morning commute. For example if I leave it in first and get the speed constant at 10-15km at 1,000 - 1,500 rpms I feel the car to be jerky. Even at low speed/rpm gear changes (1'st - 2nd). Anything past 2,000k RPM is fine though.
Is this normal? Or should I bring this up with my dealer and have them take a look at it. It's just annoying because I don't notice this in the city, just only in bumper to bumper highway driving at a constant low speed in 1st/2nd.
So after my 500 mile break in I decide to see what my new set up is made of. Had the kinetics stage 3 and the south bend stage 3 clutch installed. Did my first launch...everything went great. Got just a little bit of spin and the car took off like a scud missile. Right as Im going to shift into second my Rpms go down fast. No weird noises no metallic sounds nothing. No fluid under the car. Only a slight clutch smell nothing crazy. Car wouldn't go into gear. Shut the car off and it goes into gear.
View 20 RepliesWhat RPMs do you see in 6th gear, say at 60mph or 80mph? Consumer Reports claims the RPM at 60mph is 3020!
So I went to vw.com to look at the gear ratios for a reality check. The site lists two final gear ratios for the manual. "Final I" is 3.94 and "Final II" is 3.09. When do you get one versus the other? With a final gear ration of 3.09, I get roughly 2400RPM at 60mph. But with a ratio of 3.94, I indeed get about 3000RPM at 60mph or 4100RPM at 80mph!!! That's absolutely insane.
Weird noise - searched .. couldnt find anything mainly because its kinda hard to describe it .. While in 1st and 2nd gear at low rpms while barely giving it any gas there is this "ticking" noise coming from under the hood .. it almost sounds like .. lets put it this way .. it sounds like a wire coat hanger .. tapping an aluminum can .. how about that .. I was told it is my flywheel bolts backing out and was a problem around 65-75k .. and I am at 70k at the moment... Should I just bite the bullet and get a new flywheel and if so ..[IMG] [URL] ....
View 6 RepliesI was driving earlier and some dickhead wouldn't stop tailgating me. I brake checked him and he wouldn't back off so I got pissed and floored it. Didn't watch my rpms and I felt it give like I hit a rev limiter maybe? I'm hoping that's what it was, it was like an instant loss of power for a brief second. Just was curious that I didn't brake anything. Driving a 2003 Jetta 1.8t. Manual.
View 13 RepliesI have a 24v GLI with the O2M 6-speed trans. This morning while leaving for work I accidently let the clutch out while in gear and my e-brake still on. Heard a really loud bang and the engine didn't stall out (which it should have). Now I have no engagement in any gear and there is a very loud clicking that changes with RPMs. Did I blow the CV joint, or is this something much worse (blown diff, destroyed clutch, etc.)??? I'm border-line freaking out!
View 9 RepliesCar in question is my 2003 Jetta 1.8t with the 09A 5 Speed Automatic. For the past 2 or 3 months these have been the symptoms: 1st to 2nd gear, very hard shift depending on RPM's (Higher the RPM's the harder the shift) 2nd to 3rd gear, not really hard but it kinda 'flares' the gearbut still shifts. All other gears are fine, although if you accelerate hard out of 4th it will have a little bit of a hard shift. I'm thinking either solenoids, or the speed sensor?
View 1 RepliesMy CW R has 12k of combined mileage primarily in D/S with some aggressive Topanga Canyon driving in M. While sprinting onto the 405 the other night a resonant metallic buzz/vibration was audible between 4800-5000rpms in 3rd & 4th gear! The sound is coming from below the shifter console area. I can't reproduce it in any other gears or rpm range.
View 3 RepliesI noticed through careful investigation that my 03 GTI 1.8T (180,000 KM's or 111,850 miles) will grind 3rd when in these conditions:
1. When the car has been driving for more then half an hour and everything is hot
2. When the car is over 2800 RPM's while hot (ie. getting on a highway)
Now I know lot's of people blame syncro's and yes I could see that my car has had 8 previous owners so I can't say they all shifted perfect. But what I do know is that when I downshift from either 4th or Neutral it will never grind even when I don't Rev Match or "Blip" the throttle. So it can't be syncro's in my opinion.
So what I've done to the car to rule out some problems were:
- Change the gear oil from what ever it was before to Royal Purple 75W-90 (NO luck.)
- Then I added a short shifter and adjusted my cables properly (still No luck)
- Finally I noticed my shifter was sloppy and one of my bushings were torn so I bought 42 DD's metal bushings and the shifter did stiffen up a lot, however!!! (No luck)
I know it's not my driving technique because I watch my foot depress the clutch fully and then I gently push it into third. I also know I'm shifting correctly because I can double clutch and normally shift through every other gear properly without any grinds or clunks. Just the devilish 3rd gear.
I would like to hear the solution. I'm going to change the oil one more time to Redline MT-90 and see how that goes, but if that doesn't work I might just tear apart or get a new tranny.
So last night I was on my way home, was going through 2nd gear when all of a sudden my car sputtered and just died. It will keep cranking but just won't run. I have a SE 6MT. Had it for 4 months and almost 11,000 miles on it. Tow it to the dealer today, they went through the car and determined it's the fuel pump and will be replaced under warranty.
View 2 RepliesLately I've been having trouble with my car in third gear under hard acceleration while in tip mode with DSG. I have been Stage 2 since April and it hasn't really been an issue until recently.
The best way I can describe it is when you get into 3rd with your foot on the gas the car stops accelerating and kind of gets stuck. I have to completely let off the gas and before it "wakes up" again. I feel like it's been getting worse in worse, but it only ever happens when I try to push it hard.
No problems in auto mode or sport, it's just a major let down. Could the fuel pump be the culprit? It just feels like the car doesn't want to move for a second or 2, like no response from the gas pedal.
2003 jetta gls 1.8t 5spd - gts stage 1 tune(gonzo stage 2)
tt 2-1/2" downpipe with high flow cat
turbo smart splitter valve(set to divert only)
turbo inlet pipe
homemade intake with k&n filter
stock n75 valve (f)
So in first through 3rd gear my car gets 20psi of boost then at 3,500 ish rpm smoothly starts to lower down to 15psi. but in forth and 5th gear the boost drops faster, enough so the diverter valve actually opens. then the boost will bounce up and down, around 15psi. the car still accelerates but with obvious power loss.
Is my diverter valve not "firm" enough? it is adjustable, so I've tightened it as much as it can. it doesn't seem to change anything. it came with spring spacers to make it tighter, but I haven't tried that yet.
Is it something with the tune? not enough fuel, need bigger injectors? The problem is only at about 100mph, so its not a big deal. I would like to get it straightened out if possible.
I have the normally aspirated 3.7 V6. The ownersd manual talks about the trucks computer telling you when the oil changes are needed.....But, at 6500 miles, bnothing has come through. I have not changed the oil yet on it. I feel this is a huge sin, but am not sure.....I was raised you changed the oil every 2-3 grand. But the owners manual on this truck says the computer will tell you when to. Should I just go ahead and change it?
View 7 RepliesEvery so often when I leave the car sit for 30 minutes after being driven, I start it up, put it in reverse and back up, then when I put the car into drive the RPMs drop for two seconds or so and it seems like it wants to stall. After that happens, all is well and the Tig drives normal.
I scanned the Tig and it came up with a "low fuel rail/ fuel pressure" code. It happened 5 times.
Is my fuel pump going? Maybe a dirty fuel filter? Or maybe a computer problem?
Info: Tig has 26k miles on it, stock computer (not chipped), it is out of warranty. I only run 93 octane in it too.
I just installed a gt2871 turbo and I'm experiencing fuel dump at higher rpms. It's just like it dies at the top. My buddy said I probably need new injectors.
View 2 RepliesThe son inlaw just bought a 86 4runner. It's been beat pretty good but I know Toys are good for it. My question is, it rev's just fine in every gear but 5th. Going down a flat highway and in 5th it won't rev over 2500 no matter how much gas ya give it. It has a 22re and 31-9.50's under it. My daughter had a 86 p/u with a 22r (I believe) and 33-10.50's and it had no problem hitting 90. Is there a limiter on these things? Thought i'd ask before chasing vac lines.
