Between 40-50mph, I have a buffeting type sound. (not sunroof related) ... There's no vibration, and it seems more apparent as I'm slowing or driving at a constant speed than it is while accelerating. I'd think it was tire related?

View 6 RepliesHad a chance to drive my R on very open highway today, and there was a noticeable wind buffeting sound on the driver's side (couldn't tell if the same thing was happening on the passenger side).
I don't remember hearing the same thing in my MkV GTI. Is there a known problem with the door seals or window seals in the R?
I just bought a 2011 GTI with the Autobahn package. When I open the sunroof all the way there is a buffeting sound and pressure on my ears. I had a 2006 MK5 which had the same problem. I'm aware of only opening it partially, but I like it completely open. There really isn't a solution offered by VW except for the exterior sunroof visor. I tried this on my MK5 but it didn't work. I like the mesh pop up thing on the new Touareg. Is there anything like that out there?
View 13 RepliesSo I had a persistent dash rattle that would mysteriously go away when my car was brought in for service. I took it in a 2nd time, again nothing. So I took the service adviser for a drive until it showed up... then it wouldn't stop.
Shop foreman drove it right after we got back and this time he heard it too... took 4 hours to re/re the dash trim and radio but they found some HVAC ducting was loose from the factory ( b4 work??) and rattling around. They put it back together and apparently put tape around the joints (like you would in your home - I guess from the factory the pipes just snap together). Car is much quieter now. Just hoping this issue doesn't come back in 4-5 years when the tape falls off? It also stopped an intermittent rattle coming from the right side of the dash.
There was also a wind buffeting noise around the drivers side doors. There is a TSB to address this now for 4-door cars. A minor adjustment to a seal and I was good to go, again much quieter. I'll have to see how it fairs at 130kph on the highway, but the buffeting I could already hear at 90kph is completely gone.

Recently, I've noticed a sound coming from the passenger side when stopped at lights or when I've just parked. Best description would be a bit like a crackle (liquidy/whistly type of sound). Only happens when the A/C/defogger is on.
It's not very noticeable, I only hear it when I don't have the radio on, but it's been bothering me. I found a few posts about a rattle, but from what I can remember, it's not really a rattle.
I am not sure if this is an ignition or electrical problem. I have noticed that recently when I turn the car off, I am getting a buzzing/motor/whoosh type of sound coming from the ignition. I have never noticed this before, and I am not sure what might be causing this? The car is a 2007 Acura TSX with 111k miles on it. The car starts fine and turns off fine.
Is this something I need the dealer to look at, or is this no big deal? What was it? I am not be able to "duplicate it".
Also, it ONLY makes this sound when you turn the car off, not if you just turn the key to the pre-start position, and then turn it off.
I just had a new evaporator installed in our 03 Gx 470, and now it is making a gurgling, bubbling type sound while the air conditioner runs, it almost sounds like air is in the system.
View 2 RepliesI have a Lacrosse that has 110,000 miles on its engine. The car has has regular maintenance and oil changes at suggested intervals ( 3000K). 2000 miles into this oil change, The engine developed a clunk type sound. I checked the oil and it was dirty so I took in for another oil change. I was quite surprised to hear that I needed a new engine immediately. They could not tell me what had failed but I was in need of a $4000.00 engine transplant.I requested that they change the oil and give me back my car. I have taken it to another shop and they concur with shop one. Shop two took it to a third shop while they had it just to confirm. After the oil change, the repetitive clunk became a persistent tap. Is my engine really going to implode in the near future? Is there anything that can be done to extend the life of the car?

View 24 RepliesI have a tan 4-door 2006 Jeep Commander with a little over 100,000 miles. I recently had some work done to the rear end transmission. When I had hit the gas when going at high speeds, there was a loud vibrating noise coming from the bottom and rear of the vehicle, and when going downhill there was a loud whistling type of sound. Initially, my mechanic, who I've been going to for the last 8 years, looked at the vehicle and gave me a worst case scenario that the whole rear end might have to be replaced. He said it could cost a grand or more. The whole rear end did not have to be replaced. My mechanic did work on the car and fixed I don't know what on the rear end.
Before my mechanic gave me the car back he said there would be a slight whistling type sound when driving. And there is a whistling type sound, every time I hit the gas going about 20mph or more. Although my vehicle does drive and sound substantially better, this sound is driving me crazy when I'm driving. My mechanic said that there is nothing that can be done without replacing the whole rear end. Is this true? Can anything else be done to minimize or eliminate this whistling type sound?
I got new tires a few months ago and when the shop was putting them on they said the driver's side ball joints had a little wiggle in them. I've noticed it has gotten worse and I am going to change them prob next week. I am just going got do both sides while I have it torn apart. I have found some great info on how to do that. I also have noticed some ratcheting sounds from the drivers side hub when I start the truck and accelerate, and then it feels like there's a pop and the sounds goes away. Also if I flip on the 4x4 switch while there is the ratcheting sound it goes away. Is that just from a vacuum leak in the system? I don't know a whole lot about that, or what hoses are vacuum hoses etc.
I haven't really looked in the manual that much yet. My big question is this, I was driving down the freeway going about 70 when all of a sudden there was a gear grinding type sound, kinda like when you try to start a car that has already been started and the starter teeth make that grinding sound. Could it be that the axle has started to get some play from the ball joints getting worse and then it just reached the right RPM to cause a crazy vibration? Or could the 4x4 have a possible malfunction to where it tried to engage but the truck was going too fast? It hasn't happened again, but I have not gone 70 again either.
I get a grinding type of sound when I am braking but only when I come to a complete stop and then again when I release the brake. It is only for a second but it is loud and doesn't sound good. What could be wrong. It also is much worse when it rains.
View 4 RepliesGetting an occasional tea kettle type sound when towing. Immediately thought head gaskets but no coolant loss or residue on the degas bottle or cap, no change in coolant level. If I just back off of the throttle it will go away immediately and may or may not come back on the trip.
View 12 RepliesWhenever I am in a parking lot turning into parking spaces or driving slowly around or even turning into my driveway I have a deep creaking type sound that sounds awful. It's either the suspension going south, something with one of the strut bars or the bigger diameter mid pipe making contact with something when the car is turning. Car is noise free otherwise even over soles bumps, just happens to sound nasty when making turn ins going 2-5 mph.

When I step on the brakes I hear a ratcheting type of sound and feel pulsations in the brake pedal.There is no problem with brake performance that I have noticed. We have replaced the front rotors and front brake pads.We also replaced the rear passenger side brake caliper. It still makes a loud ratchet/groaning-like sound. It makes the sound when you first start braking after starting the car and intermittently while driving. It's not constant when you step on the brakes.
View 3 RepliesJust purchased a 2000 V10 Limited with 117000 miles on it. Absolutely love it....just have a noise that is bugging the crap out of me. My husband doesn't think it is a big deal, but I would love to find out what it is without dropping 60 bucks at the dealer.
Whenever I turn a corner that is a tad bumpy it makes a bump type sound. It usually happens only when one side is going over the bump. It is pretty loud. IT will happen also when I am going down my dirt road without turning but when one tire goes over a bump the truck kind of shifts from side to side and the sound starts.
We have thought it could be the shocks or maybe the springs making that kind of sound. My husband is clueless and he knows alot about vehicles. I just hope my description wasn't too vague.
My 2010 SF has 36000 km and I've noticed a "crunching" type sound every time I go over a steep ramp or a speed bump. The sound comes from the rear and never happens on smooth road. I took the car in for service last week and the dealership has ordered two rear replacement shocks -- they say it's premature failure.
View 16 RepliesI've been doing a lot of decently long highway trips this summer (5 hrs @ 75-80 MPH) and I've noticed that the 2008 VR6 Passat has some kind of pressure/wind noise/vibration above 75 MPH. It's hard to describe; it's like the noise you get when you open your sunroof too far and you get a harmonic noise from it. The sound seems to be coming from the upper rear of the car; behind the sunroof and almost from the rear glass.
All of the windows are up, the sunroof is closed and even the shade is closed to muffle the noise, yet it is there. However sometimes it isn't bad. If I have the radio on I don't notice it really, but when it is off it is very noticeable on certain stretches of highway. I'm having a hard time nailing it down as it is not entirely reproduceable. I don't know if it has to do with temperature, angle of the wind, climate control fan settings, what.
I did notice a few reviewers of the new CC complaining of a similar thing, which freaks me out that it is a design flaw - yet searching on here brings me up empty so I think it might be something I can fix. My first thought is that I have a tire slightly out of balance, yet the noise seems more wind related than tires.
I get the worst wind buffeting (loud whooshing and terrible pressure) when driving with the sunroof open with all the windows completely up. And just yesterday I realized the roof opens up fully with some additional pressure (surprisingly hard pressure) after the lever is turned and I get the most unbelievable eardrum crushing pressure/ noise until I crack a window or two. I'm not kidding, its unbearable at pretty low speeds.
This seems like a serious design flaw (and should have been tested and corrected) not to mention extremely annoying as I can't use the sunroof without opening the windows.
