As in the title, mine went this weekend. Searching shows other VW models have had issues with wiring connectors leading to AFS failure. Is this still a problem for VW (many of the threads on Vortex about this go back 5 years or so), and specifically the Golf R?
View 16 RepliesOut of curiosity, why would to turn off the Adaptive Front-Lighting System (AFS)? There is an option on my panel menu to do so; I just can't think of a situation where I would want to. Why Lexus makes this option available, other than they can? Otherwise, it just takes up space in my scrolling menu; how 'bout they replace that with the outside temp displayed?
View 3 RepliesSo I'm driving home from work today, when I notice a new little light in the instrument cluster (looks like a little sun with a ! in the middle). So I dig out the manual and read..."Bulb failure or malfunction in the adaptive front lights system."
I drove up close to see which DRL light is not on...so....at 15k miles my right front head lamp was out. I called my local dealer...the bulb is covered and will be replaced at no charge (4 yrs/50k miles). They said I could stop by anytime and get it replaced. So, no problem there...
But....question: Why do VW bulbs blow so often?? My old '99 Golf and '01 GTI both blew no less than 5 head lamp bulbs starting at about 15k miles (same as my current Passat now). I see VW's all the time with one "eye" out - just an observation - why is this?
2004 f150 fx4 w/ 5.4 .I have a code that read " system adaptive fuel to lean bank 1 " and the same for bank two. So, I got on here and did some research. Cleaned the throttle body, maf sensor, air filter, looked for vacuum leaks, changed the fuel filter and it still is running very poor at idle and it seems to be getting progressively worse...
View 2 Replies2004 prius. I change the brakes on various cars all the time, and never had this problem. After I changed both sides, I started the car, and saw 4 lights:
- Red brake light
- The yellow exclamation light
- ABS light
- VSC light
The car now stops funny, and reading the service manual, it says that if there's a failure detected, that it will revert back to very basic braking (no abs, only fronts, etc..)... As I was exiting off the fwy, I realized this when one of my front wheels locked up, even and I was not stopping very well. Scared the crap out of me.
In any case, I can't see what I may have done which would cause a failure. The only thing I could think of is to bleed the brakes again, but I did this and think it's ok. Is there anything else I can check or is this something I have to get serviced? I saw another thread where they suspected the actuator, but it is somewhat a coincidence that it would go bad after I replace the pads? I'm not sure how the regenerative brakes works on a prius, and whether there's anything I could visually inspect to see if I bumped something???
2003 Jetta GLI 2.8L 24v VR6 .... Last night I went to a friends house, everything was normal on the way there, probably 35-40 degrees out. When I got to his house and shut off the car and pulled the key out the power died (clock/trip meter reset) and the alarm started going off. It has done this before once or twice but I could never figure out what it was and it was never really an issue except for the clock resetting.
Jets won, went to leave and the car wouldn't start. It was raining gently at the time but the car has weathered worse. I replaced the battery ~2-4 months ago so it should definitely still be good. Jumped with my friend's car, started on the first try. I let it sit for a bit then we were on our way.
1/4 mile away in the middle of an intersection the car died, power steering, everything, and I had to drift to the other side of the road. The person across the street from me was a cop and it was 12:30 in the morning but he was gone before my car died. I have been driving 5/6 speeds all my life and I know I didn't cause the stall out. The dash lights flickered and dimmed. I shut everything off and then gave it a try and the car started right up. Revved the engine a few times, reverse and drove away. It was fine the rest of the way home.
The battery connections are tight. The car has started every single time up until now with the new battery. My old battery did leak some acid on the copper connectors and into the main positive power cable but I neutralized all of it and cleaned it off and it looked fine except for some pitting on the outside of the terminal clamp. The car is mostly stock except for the exhaust but that was years ago.
Current Battery Voltage: 12.37 ... I just started the car for the first time this morning and it started perfectly. started @ ~1200 and then settled down to ~800rpm after a bit, it usually does this when its cold out. No codes have been thrown.
Just as the title says, is there any word on getting Adaptive Cruise with the Driver Assistance package? In all the literature I've seen the DA pack for US models only confirm collision warnings and rear parking sensors.
View 24 RepliesTwo weeks ago a large, industrial truck dropped a piece of bent steel pipe on the interstate in front of my 2010, 50k miles, Prius and (sadly) I was forced to hit or swerve into rush hour traffic and cause an accident. It tore up a good part of the cooling system and did some body damage. Of course I didn't know this at the time, but it began to overheat, so I pulled off the freeway and had it towed to a body shop. After about ten days, I got my Prius back.
View 13 RepliesSwap out the LED dome lights in a 2012 Camry SE? I'm considering switching the bulbs out from the yellow tone stock lighting to the white lighting LED bulbs. I am also considering floor lighting that can be activated with the dome light switch and/or with the doors opening. The issue I'm having is that I would like them to be hooked up to the same switch that the stock lights are set up with. (So I can use the dimmer switch for lighting). Where I would be able to tap into the wiring for this? Is there a DIY thread somewhere?

On bright sunny days if i have my lights off, and partially because i have 85% tint, the cabin itself can be dark, and therefore it would be nice if i was actually able to see my dials, and not have to have the lights on.
Is there anyway to adjust the brightness of the dashboard (speedometer, tachometer, etc) display when the headlights are not on??? Sometimes if its just cloudy outside and there's no reason to have the headlights turned on, the display is nearly impossible to see. The numbers are not illuminated, only the needles. It is only until after you turn the lights on that you can see the numbers. Is there anyway to have the numbers illuminated without the headlights on???

View 8 RepliesLast month I picked up my MKVII AutoBahn with Lighting Package. It was kind of an emergency buy, but a long time coming.
I haven't had much time to check every nook and cranny, but I did make do the important checks (Shipping Pucks, I'm looking at you).
Either way, since I received the car the Footwell Lighting on the driver side has never lit up, I assumed that it was the same case on the passenger side, and that the option was just off.
When my wife was getting out of the car 2 days ago I noticed that it was in fact lighting on the passenger side, but not the driver side.
So, after speaking with the service department at the dealership, it seems almost impossible to get the car there for scheduling reasons.
Is there anything I can do on my own to troubleshoot? I'm not very handy, but always willing to try.
I have vagcom and led bulbs in my gti. I turned off the plate light monitoring erased the code and get errors for plate lighting short and the 2 bulb errors. When I put the stock bulbs back I still get plate lighting short error on vagcom but no bulb warnings, why that's happening even though all the lights turn on and function fine?

or is there a way I can get a footwell lighting kit that I can buy and install?
I start car today morning and I got message at display: STOP CAR BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE MANUAL. Message was gone after 3 seconds. Happened 3 times and I don`t see it again. I was still driving. Nothing is wrong. Brakes are working. What is it?
View 4 RepliesI have an 05 V8 and was just on my way home from work driving on the expressway when suddenly my Phaeton completely and instantly died. It was running completely fine and then everything turned off and "system failure" was on the display. I coasted in neutral off the expressway and was able to come to a stop and place the gearshift in park but the key is completely unresponsive and I can't get the gear lever to move out of park. I'm guessing I'll need to get it towed to the dealer but I don't know how it can be towed in park. I have a VAG-COM so I can go up and run a scan but it it currently parked in a vacant lot and I need to get it moved quickly.
View 15 RepliesNavigation system fails to read DVD when it heats up on my Prius IV. Works fine when cold at start up or when air conditioner is running in warm weather. Now that it is cold outside and a heater is necessary, it will intermittently fail to read the DVD. This is an updated DVD. The old DVD had no problems but I have since dumped it. Do I need to replace the new DVD?
View 1 RepliesI had my alternator and battery die on me in Dec 2015 and replaced both. Vehicle ran perfectly fine until this Sept 2016. First thing to happen was the battery light came on and then the System Charging Failure message and the tone came on and off intermittently. I took it to my garage and they tested and said the alternator was defective that they replaced in Dec 2015. It was showing 9V.
So they replaced it again free of charge with another rebuilt alternator. Within 30 min leaving the garage the system charging failure light was back on and again i lost charge to the point where everything was shutting down to the point i even lost the gauge cluster. Took it back to the garage and they checked the plug at the alternator and said it was fine. Then they said the belt was loose.
So they replaced the belt, the belt tentioner, and a pulley. Within 20 min the lights were all back on again and I was losing charge and all the things started to shutdown again. Where I picked up the car at 5PM on a Friday they had left and wont be back till Monday. So I am asking here....what is going on??? What else is there to look at or replace to fix this charging error???
Problem 1 started in winter of 2010 and happens randomly : can't shift the car from Park, I have to try several times, this occurs more during winter but now I'm having the same issue in summer even with temperatures above 78 degrees F. I took the car to the dealer in 2010 but nothing was wrong they said.Problem 2, my wife threw the original key in the dumpster by mistake ( with the remote keyless), I have had a key made buy the dealer, this key opens the doors and starts the car but each time I look the doors, the front passenger door unlocks itself. Now I'm having this message ALARM SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED. The alarm is no longer triggered.
