I have a 2012 golf R with about 25500 miles. I'm getting this high pitch noise coming from the front of the car. I can only hear it with the windows down. It is intermittent, sometimes doesn't show up sometimes there. Gets louder when I turn right. What am I looking at? Wheel bearing? I'm on coilovers.
View 8 RepliesYesterday I noticed that there was a high pitched squeaking noise coming from the front of the car as I was driving. It was loud enough to hear over the radio, which I muted to confirm where it was coming from. It sounded as if it whatever was making it was rotating, if that makes sense. It was the most noticeable from speeds 5 mph to 30 mph, but I couldn't tell if it was the wheels or engine compartment. I have 4300 miles on it.
View 6 RepliesWhat is causing this strange noise. I have an old 1998 Subaru Impreza that runs well but has this mystery squeaking noise coming from the area near the front left of the car. It seems to happen most on cold, dry days, and I can hear it when the car shakes, but only when it is driving, never at rest. I can usually make the noise if I let up on the gas while still in gear, and it happens sometimes while going over bumps, but typically only if the bump only affects one side of the car. If I am accelerating quickly or braking, the noise usually doesn't happen. It also usually only happens when I am in gear and have the gas pedal pressed, but it can still happens on bumps even if the car is in neutral, the noise is usually much quieter if the car isn't in gear.
I can't tell if the noise is coming from inside or outside of the car, but it seems to be louder inside and I can't hear anything from outside when driving through a parking garage with my windows down.Now this noise first appeared a few days after I got my clutch plate, fly wheel and axles replaced several months ago but I haven't been able to find anything on my own and the shop said they didn't see anything that could be causing it.I have included a recording I took while driving, if you listen its the high pitched squeaking. So far the only thing I have done is checked the sway bar and bushings and those are all in good condition and covered in lube.
I seem to have this high pitched whistling noise as I am driving at normal speeds (starts at ~40-45 mph). It seems to coming from my rear drivers side, but I'm not entirely sure. My R has about 78,xxx miles and I haven't done this 80k....
View 5 RepliesWhilst driving on the motorway at the weekend I noticed a very load high pitched noise which seemed to be coming from the rear/centre underside of the car. It lasted for about 30 seconds and then went. It has happened before about two months ago and after the first instance I had the haldex and rear diff oil changed. On both occasions it has been very wet on roads with torrentian rain.
View 2 RepliesI'm going to take my 2012 Camry SE in for service sometime in November and experienced a high-pitched whine (very low volume) in the front end of their car. This sound seems to be coming from the front passenger side of the car and has surfaced only within the last month or so, between 70-75 MPH. Above and below that speed range I hear nothing. This car has low mileage; after almost two years, it has only about 12,500 miles on it.
I'm wondering whether it's a trans-axle whine, but it is of such low volume I don't think it would be easy for a tech to diagnose. Also, other than the D1T recall, are there any other TSBs that I should be aware of, and any recent Entune updates that need to be applied? And, whether Toyota has a remedy for D1T yet?
Last night around 1:00, I was awakened by a noise I think was coming from my car parked below my window. It was plugged in at the time. I heard a loud, high pitched whine, followed by a couple of knocks or thumps, then a sound like R2D2 makes when he turns his head, then a couple more knocks, and another R2D2 noise. I think I may also have seen lights flashing around the the edges of my blackout blinds, but am not sure, since I had just been sound asleep.
View 4 RepliesI got in my car today and realized it was making a whining noise, kinda like the whine of a super charger, I don't hear it at idle but when I accelerate or rev it in neutral it gets louder and higher pitched. Friend had this problem in his Mercedes and he said it was a bad belt.

Almost everyday in the mornings when I drive my car to work, there is this high pitch ticking/clacking sound coming from the passenger side vent/dash/A Pillar area.
It only happens over dumps on uneven surfaces or when I launch from a stop/red light. Keep in mind I have a manual. Its a rapid ticking/clacking sound that goes with the uneven surface or any sort of vibration on the road.
It usually goes away maybe after 20 mins of driving (I'm thinking it has to do with the temperature warming up). Or if its sunny out, it just magically goes away.
I've brought it to the dealer at least 3 times with no cure, because it takes me at least 20 minutes to get there. The tech would literally have to come to my house in the morning and listen while i start the car up and drive to "duplicate" the sound.
I originally thought it was static coming out of the right speaker due to bad wiring. Had the right speaker replaced already, sound is still there.
My 2005 Ford Freestar with 164k miles experiences a high pitched whistling noise coming from the front end after a few minutes of highway speed driving. It sounds like a tea kettle whistle. It starts out as a quick pulsed whistle then moves to a solid whistling noise. I've heard it driving straight and turning. The sound pulsates if I turn the steering wheel slightly to the left or right but seems to occur more when I turn right. The sound does not occur if van is not in motion and will stop just before car comes to rest at a stop. Three repair shops have looked at this and none of them can replicate the sound while van is on a lift but one shop did hear it during a test drive. All three shops have been unable to locate / diagnose this whistling noise. They all state brakes are in very good shape.
View 3 RepliesA high pitched squeal appears to come from the front of the a/c compressor whenever the clutch engages. When the clutch disengages the compressor stops spinning, and the squeal stops. I can watch and listen to this as the system cycles with the a/c switched on. If I turn off the a/c, no squeal. I'm guessing the bearings in the compressor are going out. However, the system still cools normally, so apparently no gas has leaked out.
Does this imply the compressor must be replaced, or could injection of some oil into the system possibly fix it...?
This car only has 73,000 miles on it. I've owned 2 other TB's and a couple classic Mustangs with much higher miles and never seen an a/c compressor bearings fail.
2007 Sonata SE, 74,000 miles
Just took the car in for brake service (not the dealership) because of what I was convinced was a brake pad sensor warning sound - something I've heard with other cars I've had, and been correct about. However, the tech said the pads were fine.
The sound is a high pitched squeal, intermittent, coming from the passenger front wheel. It can be heard when coasting at moderate speed (30 mph or so), not so much when accelerating, and especially when turning left. It got worse today, with a low grinding sound at moderately slow braking speed that started after about two hours of start and stop driving (house hunting). The car has needed a couple re-alignments and will have to get checked for possible camber? adjustment (rear tires wore badly on outside edges, far less pronounced on front tires). Car has tendency to pull to the right.
Any thoughts on a main culprit here for the squealing-grinding noise or about the possible inter-relatedness of symptoms.
I have the most annoying high-pitched squeak/whine coming from my front left tire. For those who cant see the video, its making a high pitched, metal on metal noise... at all speeds... especially when making slight turns... my foot was not on the brake when the video was taken (coasting around the parking lot at around 10 mph)...
View 4 RepliesAfter it has been sitting overnight, I hear a somewhat high pitched whine while driving the car. It seems to go away after the car warms up a bit (maybe I can't hear it). Here are a few other details
a. 2006 Sonata 3.3 V6, ~85K miles on the odo
b. Transmission fluid flushed at Valvoline ~2 weeks ago. I changed it at 39K miles when I bought it. Checked at 78k miles and the color was was good (light red).
c. The noise goes up and down with engine rpm. I have a sound (wav) recording of it, but cannot figure how to attach it.
d. I tried putting it in park and neutral and revving the cold engine, but cannot hear the whine-only happens in drive.
e. Engine oil changed every 3-5k (wife drives it, so I'm not always prompt).
It shifts smoothly (always has) and otherwise drives well.
I have a high pitched ringing noise coming from the engine and I can't figure out what is causing it. The only thing I can recall is that it started happening after I changed out all the spark plugs.

Turned my car (07 SE v7 with 240k on the clock) on this AM and there was a high pitched whine coming right from the engine bay - matched to the revs of the car, regardless of gear.
This is a new noise to me and the car - but I'm assuming it's some kind of belt issue.
Got a tire rotation a two weeks ago on my new 2013 Kia Forte (purchased in August 2012).Now, I have a very high pitched whistling noise coming from the rear tire area. The sound happens at all speeds. The sound is the worse at very slow speeds; the sound is also very bad at very slow speeds when I touch the brakes and turn the wheel.I looked at back tires from outside the car (not underneath the car). The mechanical set-up of back tires look very different than that of the front tires. The back tires have metal parts touching each other while the front tires do not.
View 3 RepliesIn the last few days there has been an intermittent high pitched whirring noise coming from the rear undercarriage of my 2009 Elantra with automatic transmission, at least it seems where it is more pronounced on the outside of the vehicle. The pitch is unaffected by acceleration or climate control changes. It just comes and goes at random. The temperature here has dropped considerably in the last week or so and seems to have started since then.

View 6 RepliesMy '04 started making a high pitched noise from the right front wheel within the last two weeks. It's in the local dealer now and they tell me they suspect a bad right front wheel bearing. I don't see any posts about similar experiences here. I kind of worry that the fact the vehicle is two years old and only has 9200 miles on it may be part of the problem-is infrequent use enough to cause the bad bearings? I drove it infrequently (1-2x/week, sometimes no driving for a week or two) up until the last three months, and now it's being driven daily.
View 10 RepliesUsually after I run the car in manual/sport mode, I begin to hear a high-pitched 'hissing/whistling' noise coming from the engine. It sounds like a vacuum leak. It is audible while driving with the windows down.
I am having problems pin pointing the source, but it sounds like its coming from the center block. What is the right direction to the leak? It starts exactly at 1500 and cuts off at 2200 rpm (while in gear). 1500 to 3000 rpm while in park..
I have a Takeda intake installed and I re-tighten the fittings.
