When I drive 60 miles exact constantly with windows closed and radio off, I hear a whine noise coming from the engine. I do not know if it's the engine or the gear shift of the transmission. If I drive over 65 mph or less than 55 mph, there is no whine sound at all. Is this normal?
View 1 RepliesI recently noticed that I'm getting a high pitched whining noise after I drive anywhere then stop and turn off the car. The noise is a buzzing/whining sound that lasts about 10-15 seconds and then stops. The noise sounds like it's an electronic component maybe having to do with the transmission? What it might be?

View 4 RepliesI am having a problem with my 2007 R32 manual,over the last few weeks its developed a whining noise in what seems to sound from the rear left side,more so when driving around a left hand corner (weight is off the noisy side),or when i let my foot off the gas and let the car run,ive jacked it up and when I grab the back left drive shaft and shake it, I found there's a bit of play on the side going into the diff, there's 70000 miles on it and no problems to date, looking for some info on what problem could be?
View 6 RepliesMy girlfriend has a 2005 Sante Fe 2.7L v6 AWD. Lately I've been noticing it more and more but when the car is driven for a good amount of time we hear a noise. I'd say maybe an hour or so (I've never measured it though) the car makes a whining noise when trying to turn the wheel or even accelerating. I feel some resistance in the wheel when it happens too but majority of the noise comes from turning the wheel. Also when this happens the car seems to want to pull to the right, i can feel the wheel starting to pull. If I let the car rest and cool down for like 20 minutes or so it will go away but then slowly come back. From what Ive been reading I think I can narrow this down to a power steering fluid issue, either its low, leaking or the screen in the bottle is clogged. I don't see any leaks, nothing pouring out the bottom of the car either.
View 11 RepliesAfter it has been sitting overnight, I hear a somewhat high pitched whine while driving the car. It seems to go away after the car warms up a bit (maybe I can't hear it). Here are a few other details
a. 2006 Sonata 3.3 V6, ~85K miles on the odo
b. Transmission fluid flushed at Valvoline ~2 weeks ago. I changed it at 39K miles when I bought it. Checked at 78k miles and the color was was good (light red).
c. The noise goes up and down with engine rpm. I have a sound (wav) recording of it, but cannot figure how to attach it.
d. I tried putting it in park and neutral and revving the cold engine, but cannot hear the whine-only happens in drive.
e. Engine oil changed every 3-5k (wife drives it, so I'm not always prompt).
It shifts smoothly (always has) and otherwise drives well.
I have a 2009 F-150 with 5.4L 4x4. Recently I've been hearing a whining noise when I'm driving at low speeds. I don't hear it at startup and if the truck is idling in the driveway the sound goes away after a while. Only while accelerating and turning. I can't tell if it gets worse while turning or not. At first I thought it was an idler pulley, but since it doesn't happen when idling, I am leaning on power steering pump.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2000 4x4 Lim Excursion V10 and have started noticing a whining noise when acceleration from a stopped position. I cannot hear it at higher speeds maybe because of my exhaust . I also tried revving the engine in park and could not seem to hear the noise which leads me to believe it's not the engine per say. It is clearly from the front. I have heard the noise also coming from when I am turning from a dead stop so I think the steering pump is going out. But when I am driving straight it also makes a whining noise without turning too I have no clue what it could be I just change my belt about a month ago to a 45.00 Gates Belt from O'Reilly, so it can't be that. sounds like a old foreign car backing up its like urururururur but not that loud LOL... from a stop light then goes away around 25mph or so!!

View 24 RepliesI have a 2004 Camry (2.4 Ltr engine) with 120k miles on it. 2 days ago a whistling/whining noise began after I had been running errands & restarted my car after being parked for about 20 minutes.
If my car has been sitting and the engine is cold (like when I get up in morning to go to work) the noise doesn't start until it gets to the 3rd line above the "C" on the temp gauge. It's a constant sound while idling or driving, except when I am accelerating. The noise seems to be originating from around the alternator, but hard to tell exactly. I have no Check Engine, battery or other indicator lights showing. Other than this mystery noise my car is running fine.
My 2001 VW New Beetle has started making a loud, whining noise coming from outside the car along w/ some buzzing whenever I am driving. I find that I have to change gears about 10 miles sooner than I should in order to stop the noise. But now it's happening in 5th gear occasionally too, and of course I can't go to a higher gear to make it shut up. What could this mean?
View 3 RepliesI bought a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe with 30k miles about 3 weeks ago. It is the 2.4 Cyl, non AWD version.
I noticed this noise while driving from ~0-20 MPH. A light whining, strained noise from the front end.
I brought it to my Hyundai dealership and they took a ride with me, and acknowledged they noticed a noise too. They changed power steering fluid once. Still heard the noise, so brought it back for 2nd time, they changed power steering reservoir, still heard the noise and brought it back for a 3rd time.
They now say there is nothing wrong with the car. Between 2nd and 3rd time, when pre heating my car on a couple of cold days, I noticed there's an even worse noise while parked in the drive way. I told them about this. Is this noise normal?

@75000 miles my first check engine light. Here are my symptoms......
~After i shut the car off the fan keeps on blowing at a very high rate as if the car is over heating, its currently 45-50 degrees.
~On cold morning when i start the car up and turn the steering wheel I hear a very loud whining sound, but after driving for about 20 min and the car has warmed up the sound goes away.
2005 Sport Trac 4x4... So, my fiance purchased this new off the floor before i met her (or else she wouldn't have bought it). Had a motor issue which required a new motor after 90k miles.. Anyways, while driving on a normal road, i dropped the rear window and hear this whining noise. Checked the transmission fluid and it was a little low, nothing major. Topped it off with Mercon V... No effect. Where do i look next. It does not have a tow package. Do i check the transfer case, or rear differential?.I am thinking differential because the transfer case is more upfront to where the noise is. you cant hear it with front windows down. Only the rear sliding window or rear passenger's windows.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2002 Honda Civic EX with 146,000 miles. It started making a whining/high pitched humming type noise whenever I turned. Every now and then it makes the same noise (though not as loud) when I'm just driving straight.
When I checked my power steering fluid, it was low, so I added to it. That worked with the noise briefly, but now it's back and the fluid level is fine.
So my car started to make this noise, hear it more at highway speeds than anything else. It's like a high pitched whine or whistle. When I'm on the accelerator it goes away, soon as I take my foot off the gas it starts up. Just cruising and engage clutch goes away as well. Sounds like coming from rear but hard to tell, hear it at low speeds but not as loud.
View 5 RepliesI've had my car for less than a week and have noticed something, I want to check with you all here to see if it is common or not.
When in 2nd gear with my foot off the gas between 1-2K RPM, I hear a faint whining sound that gets lower in pitch as the RPMs drop. An example of when this would happen is if I were coming up to a stop sign in a residential area in 2nd gear, coasting to the stop sign. The sound starts a little under 2K RPM.
I don't remember hearing this in 3rd gear and I haven't tried in 1st.
Just today I started hearing a whining noise from the rear that came and went. I wouldn't be worried but it was so loud that the radio could not drowned it out anymore. The noise when away when I gave the car some throttle so I am thinking its the rear diff. It was pouring down rain and I wonder if there was some part of that that could have had an affect.

I picked up my 2013 TTRS about 3 weeks ago now. Man do I love this car! However, about 2 days after I picked the car up I started hearing a really annoying noise coming from somewhere up front in the car. At first I thought I already had a bad wheel bearing, but then realized the noise goes away when I'm off the throttle or decelerating. It's a very irritating rotational whine that increases and decreases frequency based on what speed I'm at. However, it only make the noise when under light throttle inputs for maintaining speed. So if I just hold the car light on the throttle to cruise at say 45mph, it's annoying as all hell. The only way to not get irritated by it is to have the windows open, radio blasting, of AC blasting to overcome the noise.
Audi here in Scottsdale had 5 technicians identify the noise and confirm I'm not crazy. They say they have no idea what it could be. However, they cannot see anything mechanically wrong, and since we can't pinpoint a source, they can't just start digging in for warranty work. Also, since TT-RS's are so limited, they haven't been able to drive another one to see if it makes the same noise. I assume it has to be something that engages when torque is applied, but I'm at a loss where to start. CV joints? I am assuming it's some bearing that compresses in the transmission under power?
Every time I let off the gas there seems to be a strange whooshing/whining noise being emitted from somewhere on my R. I have the flapper plugged and am thinking that it might possibly be that...
