Jun 20, 2014
My R doesn't have a hatch emblem. I have the emblem, and I want to put it on. But how do I know where to put it?

View 8 RepliesI tried searching and I was not able to find how to remove the rear emblem.
View 9 RepliesLooking for a write up, is it just stuck on there like the back GTI or is it screwed in?
View 6 RepliesI have the grill out, how do i get to the three tabs the emblem is attached with...
View 9 RepliesMy GTI is starting to royally p*ss me off. Went to the market and opened/close the hatch. Get home go to close hatch...doesn't engage to shut. I even adjusted the rubber stoppers some to see if that was the issue.
View 9 RepliesBeen noticing when doing a touch-free high pressure car wash, I tend to have some issues after-wards in which the hatch signals it being opened (this was intermittent and would periodically ding it was open and go away), only to after about a day go away completely. This happened twice and since it rectified itself pretty quickly I didn't look further in to it. During the aforementioned issue period I was able to open the hatch, backup camera worked (OEM emblem one) and also use the rear wiper.
We had some pretty bad rain recently and I did a lot of driving that day between our house, work etc and it got a lot worse. Now it permanently says hatch is open, I cannot open the hatch via the emblem and the rear wiper does not work, but the backup camera works.
How the rear hatch opens up fully with a click on the remote, but closing it is another matter. Manual says to grab the handle inside and swing down but I can't seem to close it without having to push down on the outer hatch. Is there a trick ???
View 15 RepliesWhen it's really cold outside the hatch only opens about half way on it's own. I have to manually lift it the rest of the way. Is this normal?
View 9 Replies If it doesn't rain it's not too bad, just small specks of dirt. But holy hell, as soon as it rains it looks like someone threw up all over the hatch, rear window, and under the hatch spoiler. Puddles of dirt/water then form on the flat portion. It looks disgusting.
I've waxed the hatch to death with Zaino. What sucks is, so much stuff gets on the hatch that it sticks to the surface and pretty much only comes off with a claybar.
Having a little issue w/ the wife's hatch lock mechanism as seen in the video below. The black lock arm isn't the culprit as in some other videos I've seen.
View 3 RepliesMy hatch has been unlocking just fine (you hear the click and it pops out just a little bit) but when you flip the emblem to open it won't always open. This is of course intermittent so I can't get it to happen at the dealer. It feels unlocked but when you pull on it something still is staying latched and I have to unlock it again with the remote to release.
View 22 RepliesI just picked up a 2000 GTI VR6 and it's got a few issues but what's bugging me the most is the hatch won't open, I've tried everything I can think of but no luck. what should I do next?
View 2 RepliesMy wife has safety concern about the two door version. Is the hatch door can be opened from inside?
View 4 RepliesFor 6 months of ownership, the rear hatch apparently has never been locked. I can lock all other 4 doors, expect the latch apparently won't lock by itself. and I can't physically lock it with the key as it looks like the lock is seized. What are my options? Do I have to get a used rear hatch or is there someway of locking it from the inside?
Looking at some videos online, it looks to be that the actuator motor in the trunk could be the possible culprit?
Having rust issues? I just bought the car and noticed some was touched up with the rear hatch - under the window, right by the seal. Also, right by where the bottom of the door and front fender meet. Looks like it's inside, on the body/frame, not the fender.
I'll probably take it to dealer and hope to have it taken care of. Carfax came back clear so I'm pretty sure no work has been done on it before that would cause this.
There's a mk4 gti being parted out but it has no power and the key is 3 hours away. I'm trying to get the hatch open in order to take the headliner out. I can get inside the car, is there a way to manually open the hatch?
View 7 RepliesI have myself a hatch stuck shut on my wagon. Wont open with the button and the key doesn't turn. The key fob was actually broken when I bought the car leading me to believe it happened while he tried to unlock the stuck hatch.
View 3 RepliesI just shaved my hatch on my gti I am using a gas door popper to open the hatch and it works good my question is that when the hatch is closed I have the light on the dash saying the hatch is open how do I get rid of it what do I have to do.
View 3 RepliesDoes button on the drivers door open your hatch. Mine does not. Just wondering if this was normal.
View 13 RepliesI just noticed that even when switching the dome light off, the trunk light never shuts off with the hatch open.
I assume there is no way to turn it off other than taking out the bulb?
The hatch rattle has been driving me nuts. I'd heard that the bumpers on either side of the hatch could be adjusted to fix this problem. I couldn't find a good howto on this, so I snapped a few pics.
Basically, if you adjust these bumpers so that they apply slight tension on the hatch when closed, it appears to stop the rattles that happen over low speed bumps. It's been a couple days, some pretty bumpy roads, and no rattles since the weekend. [IMG] [URL] ......
Tools Required
- One 3mm hex driver
- Two hands (one would probably do)
1) Open the rear hatch and note the bumpers on either side:
2) Note the 3mm socket in the center of each bumper, deep inside:
3) Insert 3mm hex driver into the socket, loosen (but do not remove) the screw:
4) Wiggle the bumper out -- I moved mine out about 0.5" or so. Retighten screw.
5) Close the hatch to test fit. The rubber bumper should be SLIGHTLY compressed against the stopper, but not mashed up against it:
6) Go take a drive. Tell the wife/husband/other that you need to test for rattles. Spend a few hours driving fast, just to be super sure.
