Under normal driving how loud is the exhaust inside the car with the windows up and the radio on? I know the exhaust is loud as all the reviews say and i know there are videos on youtube of the exhaust but its always either with the windows down or windows up and radio off. I just want to know how much louder than stock it is just cruising with windows up and radio on if i want some sort of quiet.

View 13 RepliesI have a 2014 passat 1.8 tsi comfort line about 7 months old. And i have some questions about it. Does warranty cover interior quality? cuz there are loud crackling noises while driving on normal roads. and recently since it snowed the crackling became much more noticeable and loud, really annoying.
In the morning backing out of the driving way, the breaks squeak in a really high pitch sound, the dealership told me it is normal but it got louder than when i first got it. Seems like its a normal problem for most, but is there a way to reduce the noise? i get its cleaning the brakes but its mad loud.
So driving in the snow the brakes get really bumpy, is that abs or is it like crushing snow? just sorta scary feeling.
Lots of black soot on my chrome exhaust pipes. I imagine this is normal, but I've never noticed it on other cars, because I have never had chrome tips.
View 5 RepliesLeaking exhaust manifold? The truck has a much louder than normal "knock" when accelerating. At first I thought and had some bad fuel in the tank. I eliminated that with a full take of good fuel and some STP but the "knocking" continued. Then I thought that perhaps it wasn't firing on all cylinders but it felt like it had full power. I took it to my mechanic and he said it as a exhaust manifold leak. He said that he has never replaced the exhaust manifold but that it was a "nightmare" and expensive. He also said that it's not a safety issue but on the long run the leak would cause the truck not to pass its emission test. He said the problem was with rusted bolts that would be difficult to remove.
View 12 RepliesHaving issue where you get a continuous whistling while under normal driving conditions. I recently went to stage 3 Revo software using the Stasis Revo K04 upgrade kit, installed professionally. Have looked at all possible sources of the whistling, have narrowed it down to the the turbo itself. Can hear the car whistling from a good distance away from it. when not moving if I rev the engine i can reproduce the whistle as well, just not sustained. As soon as you press the throttle above 2400 RPM it starts whistling and continues to whistle as long as throttle is pressed. Car is almost un-drivable because of whistle.
View 3 RepliesI'm coming home from just running errands around town, got the stereo on pretty loud, normal driving, good weather, and the engine just shuts off. Lights are still on, regular brightness, everything electrical working, but battery light and EPC light are on and the engine won't restart. It'll turn and "click" like it's about to start, but just the starter turns over.
Fast forward 5 minutes (no activity in the interim), and it starts up first try. Battery light is now off but EPC light is still on. This happened about 2 blocks from home, so I gently take it home. 1 block away, the EPC light goes off. I let it idle for a minute and everything now seems normal. I shut it off and so here we are.
I feel as though my APR turboback has an exhaust leak.
There is a loud hissing noise that overwhelms the exhaust, turbo and engine noise. What it is. Sounds like a loud hissing when then turbo begins to kick it. Not normal, and it slowly has gotten worse and more noticeable.
I have a feeling its the downpipe, but I can't check it myself. When i give it gas and the hood is open (at a standstill obviously), the engine compartment smells like exhaust fumes.
Could be playing mind games with myself. What do you all think? Any way to surely test and see? I am taking it to dealership on Tuesday to double check.
I was in my first torrential downpour in the R yesterday and when it was at its worst the exhaust suddenly went from flapper-modded to extremely loud, from what sounded like the center point of the car, almost as if the exhaust joint came loose, but once it had a minute to dry after the rain stopped it went away.

View 2 RepliesRecently had an aftermarket turbo back exhaust system installed. After driving for a short while, I noticed that between 2500 and 3500 RPMs the noise was very loud. Once I hit the highway (in which the engine almost exclusively hangs around those numbers), it was almost unbearable to sit in the car while having that constant droning sound. I have had and been in cars with aftermarket exhaust systems before and never heard anything quite like this. It is pretty tame below 2500 and once you hit 4000, it sounds quite nice and that horrible drone goes away. I really trust the shop that did the work, so I doubt it was faulty install. Could it be a faulty design or maybe just the one that I received?
This exhaust is from a reputable maker and they designed this system specifically for the Golf R. I did have some other mods done at the same time (Coilovers, Engine Mount Insert, Intake and a Tune). I know the insert may cause a little bit of vibration and hence a little bit of extra noise, but nothing like this. While driving on the highway at 3000 RPMs, I cannot even clearly see the cars behind me through the rear windshield as there is so much vibration from all the noise.
Forgot to mention, this TBE is resonated with a CAT, so even more reason for concern. Would expect it to be quiet by comparison to a CAT-less non-resonated system
Ok, so I was driving normal highway speeds and all of a sudden, I realize a major drop in power. I pull over and restart it and it changes nothing. Now when I floor it, it takes 20-30 seconds to get to 90K.
I checked the air filter... Nothing. Used a code reader... Nothing. Then I decided to pressure test the cylinders... Nothing, except now the check engine light is on.
The Ol Dub is still drivable, but it is extremely slow and rough at idle. I am thinking it might be a MAF or fuel filter.
My vr6 some times loses its power but it's weird because the check engine light does not appear. It does for like 30 seconds then it goes back to driving normally.

All of a sudden today, the passenger side window started vibrating like crazy under normal driving. It is very loud and noticeable, but goes away once I crack the window. If I roll it up and crack the driver's side, I get the "helicopter vibration noise" some have noticed when the sunroof is open (I don't have a sunroof, but have noticed this on all my other VWs).
View 2 RepliesI have a 94 ranger 4L. I am looking for a more loud exhaust sound in/outside the truck and at idle. I have had a cherry bomb turbo on it and it was ok but not loud enough for my liking. I just picked up a flowmaster 40 2 days ago and it sounds good but again just not loud enough for my taste and kinda a lot more. I was looking for a louder muffler that is not a glasspack and would like to stay under like 80 or so.
I also thought about getting a high flow cat which i think might make some more sound but was not sure. Im running the stock pipe which is 2" and end in back of the wheel on the right. I look at the Hooker Headers Maximum Flow Muffler which i thought would be louder b/c it's more straight through the muffler so it would put off more sound better. What would u recommend for something more loud ?
I just got my R last Monday and have noticed a weird rattle coming from the exhaust. It only happens when I am driving. I can rev the engine when parked and the car sounds great. The rattle seems to happen when the car shifts and seems to happen less often if I've been driving for a little while. I did take it to VW they put it on a lift and checked everything underneath. I was told it might just go away but if not to come back and they will further check it out. What it might be?
View 24 RepliesAs if puttin on all new 4 tires and having to buy a new wheel because one was cracked didn't cost me enough. Car was idling for a good 30minutes or more (arguing with the gf) and out of no where I noticed the exhaust note change and the temperature rise. I shut if off before it even reached the red mark. Yes I checked the cooling fan and its working when the engine is warmed up. Was it possible some wires may have come loose from hitting a pot hole ( main roads) and it caused it to overheat? Car is running fine and I will get it in the shop next week to have it looked at
Could it have caused any damage to the engine even though I was able to stop it quick and let it cool down?
I would like to know what code is responsible for the exhaust flap. Seems like it is permanently open. The solenoid in the left rear wheel well works; but valve is fully open during idle and driving.
As much as I love my car sounding like a beast, my house and my passengers are losing sleep and experiencing hearing-loss.
We tried looking for any leads, but came back empty handed from the dealership. I've also reached out to the tuning company, and confirmed that the software itself does not affect the valve controls.
I am a newbie of the Golf R32. There is something curious when the operation speed of more than 120km On the right side of the engine compartment are as mad as a strange noise.
Quite a loud noise like whistling, as a rapidly rotating. Is this the original R32-sounding? I heard this noise because the sound generator is this true?
