Got the light bulb symbol in the tach this afternoon. After checking it out, the LR inner bulb seems to be out. Am I correct in assuming I have to pull back the carpet, then remove 2 nuts/washers, and then remove the taillight lens/housing to replace the bulb? Any recommendations on bulb or just stay with OEM? My R32 has 88K+ miles and this is the first bulb to go...

View 1 RepliesI have a 2003 W8 wagon and my front turn signal bulb went out. I need to replace it, but am having some problems. I removed the high beam cover to get to the turn signal socket, but I am having problem removing the socket. I was able to turn the socket slightly and was hoping I could just pull it back, unfortunately it doesn't seem to want to move. Is there a trick to remove the turn signal socket so I can remove the bulb? I don't want to force anything in fear of breaking something. there has to be a way.

Removed taillight and located socket the contained the bulb. Looks like it should twist to unlock but only turns a little. looks like it wants to turn counter clockwise.

Ugh...!! I've never had something like this before. Is this common? The light still works but its all melted on the inside and the plastic ring on the inside is falling down.... Quick pic...
View 9 RepliesI've having difficulty removing the taillights from the trunk. I'm sure it is simple but there must be a trick to do this properly. I've removed the nuts but I can't bulge the "lockwashers" per the instructions. The threaded stud is a special design and has some type of spring mechanism. I tried removing one of these a few years ago and I broke the stud. How is this done? Below are the Bentley instructions which are not useful.

94 - Taillamps Tail light assembly in luggage compartment lid, removing and installing
Removing:
-Switch off ignition, switch off all electrical components and remove ignition key.
-Remove trim for rear lid Body Interior - Repair Group 70 .
-Release the latching mechanism - arrow - and separate the connector.
-Remove bolts - arrows - .
-Remove the lock washers and the tail light housing.
Installing: Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
-If a new taillight is being installed, remove the protective foil from the gasket.
-Connect the connector.
-Insert the taillight into the body opening.
Note: When installing the taillight housing, pay attention to the gap dimensions.
-Gap dimensions of tail lamp assemblies .
-Move the taillight by hand into the correct position in the body, hold the position and then tighten the nuts.
-Tighten the nuts using 4 Nm torque.
-Coding or adaptation of the taillight is not required after installation.
-Check the rear light function, Rear light function, checking .
How do you remove the city or parking light bulb in the 2011 GTI, without the HID projector headlights? I have the regular halogen set-up...I want to change them to a super white bulb to match my Xenesis bulbs.

2002 Jetta, how do you remove the cover over the blinker bulb on headlight? There is a rectangular black cover with a tab at the top. I have tried everything, short of breaking it off, to get the tab to release the cover. What is the trick?

View 1 RepliesThis has manual knobs - NOT CLIMATRONIC. This actually happened months ago, I bought a new bulb, pulled trim piece and it looked like a PITA. It appeared that I would have to remove the radio to pull the climate control module, but I didn't want to bother w that at the moment. I'm sorta hoping that it is like the B5 Passats in that the bulb is just behind one of the knobs and it's accessible by pulling the knob off. I wasn't sure though, so I didn't want to start pulling on stuff till it broke.
