It started a couple months back, under about 20 mph I feel/hear a rubbing or grinding sound. Appears to be coming from the front end, I put I on a rack and drove it but couldn't isolate a cause. I rotated the tires, replaced the brakes to be sure there was no warping. Everything looks good, but something clearly isn't.
View 2 RepliesI have an 08 Toyota Sienna and yesterday I started to notice a very slight grinding or rubbing sound when I apply the brakes coming from the passenger side front wheel. I can only hear the grinding or rubbing sound when I am going very slowly (like the last 20 feet when approaching a stop sign). The sound pulses slightly like two surfaces that are not parallel are rubbing. There is no pulsation or wobble felt in the brake pedal. I'm thinking it's time to get the rotors turned, but it could also be the brake pads.
View 5 RepliesI have noticed this rubbing, not quite grinding sound/vibration when I take off and turn. For instance pulling out of a parking lot and turning either left or right. Truck will do it only after it's been driven a while. I originally thought it was just the limited slip ratcheting but recently just changed the rear axle fluid adding Amsoil this time. I did not add any friction modifier because I didn't think the Amsoil needed it. So after going on a 500 mile trip I find it is still doing it. The truck sits at the stock ride height and has stock size wheels and tires on it. What it could be ? It only happens in the turn, not while driving straight. It still sounds like the differential but just want to be sure.
View 7 RepliesI got a strange one. 03 expl 4x4 xlt, started making a weird sound, almost like a rubbing, or a light grinding, comparable to the sound and seat of the pants feel you would get if say you ran out of good brake lining and were creeping the car forward at half mph while dragging the breaks slightly but (except it is when you are stopped and in P). Break pads are fine, just when you come to a stop and put it in park. lasts for about 1-3 seconds. No tranny slippage or other issues yet, all seems to be working. I don't use 4x4 hardly at all but not in last 6 months since there is no snow. Since it is so short I cannot pop the hood to track it down. Torque converter? Fan clutch?

They have had the car for a few extra days and they say they cant seem to find the cause of the problem. It rattles on a pot hole, it grinds on right turns and sometimes vibrates on highway cruise control driving.
View 14 RepliesA few days ago I purchased a brand-new 2015 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T LTD, with about 80 miles on the odometer. During the test-drive, I noticed a rubbing/faint grinding sound which emanated from the right front corner, and only lasted a second or two. I was driving straight ahead at about 30mph on a relatively smooth paved road at the time.
The dealer told me they were aware of the noise, and claimed a small stone was to blame. (it had been test driven a number of times). I was assured that the problem would be fixed when I picked up the car.
On the drive home from the purchase, it did it again, and has done it every day that I've driven it. (about 150 miles on it now). Are these wheels susceptible to having stones lodged in them?? (assuming that's actually what's causing the noise).
Early this week my car started making a loud knocking/rubbing sound (Kind of in between when your brakes are ground down to the rotor and a knocking pattern).
FIRST, it started only when I turned slightly left or left.... NOW, it's doing it as I go straight and when I turn to the right as well... oddly enough it's not as bad when going left anymore...
What this could be?? And if it's an easy DIY fix..... (maybe a link on how) and how much the part(s) might be?? I've taken video (for sound as I drive)...but not sure if I can upload it (size limit).
I have 2003 F150 SuperCrew 5.4L XLT. For past month or so, have been hearing metal rubbing sound and had shakes in braking - as well as a "grabbing and pulling" sound near brake pedal - very aggravating to say the least. Weird thing is the grabbing and pulling sound only happens under 10 miles an hour or coming to a complete stop. (The grabbing sort of sounds like the sound the ABS makes when hit really hard)
Yesterday I had brakes and rotors replaced - mechanic said front rotors were beyond turning - very bad. 135,000 miles on truck. Felt more comfortable until I pulled out of shop and when I applied brakes, had the same grabbing/grinding sound, but no pulling. Went back to mechanic and had him ride with me to hear sound, and he is stumped.
Knew it was safe(r) to drive since new pads/rotors installed, but when I got up to 55mph and barely touched the brakes, the steering wheel began to shake violently - but no sound/grabbing from brake pedal area like I get when I am 10mph or under. Really at a loss right now.. What's going on?
Truck is a 2WD, also hear some thump thump thump sounds from front left tire, which are only one year old, but tire man said that was from suspension arm or something - nothing to worry about he says.
Some people have said "bearing" or "hub" but when brakes were replaced, the bearings were repacked...is this the same thing? Is the current problem safe to drive with? I do not take vehicle out of the county - just to work and back and hunting on weekends.
I have a 2000 F-250 Crew Cab with Lariate Trim package (not sure how that could be relevant to the issue, but it might be?) and auto locking Hubs. Recently, the truck has taken to making an intermittent grinding/Rubbing sound that comes seems to come from the wheels. I can not locate the sound exactly since it only happens when I'm Driving, I have never heard the sound at any speed lower than 20 mph or when the 4x4 is engaged either manually through he hubs or the selector in the cab when the hubs are in auto. All this leads me to think that I need to replace the autolocking hubs, but i'd like a second opinion (or even third) before I go to the trouble of replacing them.

Its a rubbing / winding sound coming from the rear, and seems to only make noise when the clutch is engaged / in gear and accelerating. It stops (probably from the # of rotations making it hard to hear) around 15-20 mph. It starts slow and of course increases with speed. Its not a nasty dead-wheel-bearing sound, just a rub. Car has H&R coils, stock wheels no spacers, haldex blue, stock exhaust w/ resonator delete and flapper mod. (Trying to think of any mods in that area that could change the cars dynamic) ...

View 3 RepliesStarted getting a whirring / rubbing sound during deceleration and took it into dealer for diagnostics. They said driveshaft needs replacement. Fortunately they are covering under warranty but it's got me concerned about longevity.
I've got an APR Stage 1 ECU upgrade but otherwise stock. Not a track car and i'm not moonlighting at the drag strip dropping the clutch at 5000 RPMs to try and make into the 11's so am baffled by the issue.
So everything is tight and aligned and all good, but I'm getting this deep squeaking rub noise coming from my front upper strut mounts, but all the bolts are tight, yet it looks like the metal ring inside the strut tower moves a little up and down when you rock the car a bit. And I can feel the rubbing vibration and movement of the mount when I put my hand on/in the strut tower while the car is rocked.

The noise is similar to a rubbing / humming sound that occurs below 10MPH and then increases with repetition at say above 60MPH. I notice a little harder of a rubbing when wheel is turned at say when i pull out from a stop sign!
ALL that i have done was put on hubcentric spacers and that i pulled off to see if noise stopped but it didn't! Could the supplied bolts be to long? I had removed dust caps on rear for clean fitment and sanded any imperfections on all hubs.
The noise isn't loud at all but is definitely noticeable with radio off and windows up!
Could this be a wheel balance issue? Tie rod or arm? Bent RIM?
Just had a hub get stripped a few weeks back and had to replace the whole hub assembly. Now just a few weeks later, I started developing this strange rubbing, almost scraping sound when backing of the garage in reverse and the diving speeds of like 5-10 mph. It has to be wheel related becuase the sound goes in and out as the wheel goes around.
Put the car up on jack stands , checked fender plastic underneath the wheel wells, dchecked the dust sheild on the rotors, checked the tires out, even spun the rotor around with my hand and I couldn't replicate the sound?
Just Started about 5 days ago and was only noticeable at slow speeds every other day, then today it seemed worse and I can almost hear it when driving 25-35 mph and I'm also starting to feel it in the steering and body of the car as a vibration.
I just want to get this car back running smooth... Just put new suspension on as well, new strut bearings, but I had to reuse the strut mounts because the dealership was out of mounts. Don't think the suspension has anything to do with it, but you never know. How to upload a video... I can see if I can somehow record the sound.
Recently bought a 2015 Golf Tsi. i have done around 4000 miles. there has been a ticking and a "coin rubbing together" sound when accelerating until about 2200 revs. dealer could not find the solution... the car has been very jolty, and at very low idle speeds, very rough and stuttery. The video shows the ticking. Could it be an exhaust/fuel injector problem? [URL] .....
View 3 RepliesI have the most terrible clunking/rubbing sound on my right passenger side, especially when I'm turning left. When I drive straight it sounds like the wheel is hopping even when going over minuscule imperfections in the road. I also get a terrible rub when going over speed bumps or into grooves and dips in the road.
I've searched and searched but cannot come up with a answer towards rectifying the issue. My car hasn't been lowered; I'm running the stop 337 suspension. I've replaced the following within the past two years:
-control arm bushings
-ball joints
-tie rod ends
-upper strut bushings and bearings
-passenger side axle
-dog bone mount
-engine mount
-tranny mount
Most recently:
-front struts
-sway bar end-links
-driver's side axle
It seems to like everything should be solid considering I've done all of this crap. I don't understand why I'm having this issue and why it sounds like it is getting worse and worse.
When I'm driving low speeds...say under 40. there is a random but frequent rubbing sound coming from the front passenger tire. Previous my driver side coil over blew out and it was replaced by VW and they raised the car. After about a week i noticed the sound. The car also shakes between 55 and 65...so i'm assuming it's a balancing issue. But can't figure out what the rubbing is....ball bearing maybe?

I have a weird rubbing/grinding noise that seems to be coming from the front, passenger side of my car. It's a very weird rubbing/grinding noise, almost rubber like, but somewhat metallic. I recently got new tires and almost thought it had something to do with that, but that seems unlikely.
When decelerating from about 20 to 15 mph, the noise starts. It's a cyclic noise that is proportional to the speed of the car. It occurs while going in a straight line or while turning, but gets significantly louder in a turn. It instantly stops as soon as I hit the accelerator at any point.
Another important fact is that the noise does not happen when the car is cold. You have to drive about 5-10 minutes for it to start.
I just bought new KYB shocks/struts that I planned to install (probably not myself although I am tempted), so now is probably a good time to dig into the problem. I replaced brake pads and turned the rotors within the last year. I wouldn't be surprised if the suspension needs some additional TLC as I have not replaced any components and have owned it since it had 13K on the odometer.
