Golf V R32 :: Resonating Sound At Low Speed From Rear Boot Trim
Sep 14, 2010
I took ownerhip of my R32 last week, there are a couple of things that I have noticed that I need to sort out.
1. There is a resonating sound at low speed from the rear boot trim, right where the rear windscreen wiper is, I can also make it happen when the boot is open by flicking the trim, is it loose, or what, is this a common problem..? Do I need to remove the trim and fix something...?
2. There is a black box under the driver seat with some electronics in it, I am dammned if I can get the lid to go back on properly, I have had a look and can't see any plastic Tabs broken, but it won't go back on properly, just keeps falling off...I have long legs so my seat is nearly as far back as it will go for me to drive, so this box is exposed, I need to get this on properly.
3. The cupholder thing down between the driver and passenger seat, there is a sliding lid on it, it is stuck half open (or closed..!?) and I can't get it open or closed, how th heck do I get at this to fix it...?
4. I will be looking what version Firmware the RNS 510 / MFD2 is, I am also looking for iphone integration, I have blue tooth for calls, and Sat Nav and the bigger display MFD....and would like to control the phone / tunes with the steering wheel, and see the track info in the MFD.

I'm repainting my peeling shifter trim plate and replacing the shift boot with a new one. Lots of support available on removing the shifter and disassembling the trim plate, but no clear instructions on how to remove the boot from the knob. It looks like this inside:
How do I separate the boot from the knob to install a new boot? The only instructions I found showed a metal collar which is not the case in our cars.

Experiencing the black b-pillar trim creak? Just pressing on that black vertical plastic trim causes the plastic sounding "creak".
Just curious... what was the solution? It's driving me nuts.. it is so sensitive that when the car just moves into the sunlight, it starts creaking as it expands in the heat.

How to remove the rear side interior trim? I want to install a rear view camera. I need to pull the trim to run the wiring along the left side to the floor and to the front of the car.
My understanding is I need to get access to the left rear side of the hatch, then underneath the carpet along the rear door trim, etc. I've seen some posts on the 2 door, but there appear to be differences between that and the 4 door.

I installed a CAI (CTS Motorsports) and I'm hearing some sort of resonating humming while driving. I also installed a 3'' turbo back exhaust (SPM) and did APR stage 2 tuning. I did not do everything at once, the CAI was installed 3 weeks prior to any other install on my car. I've been hearing that annoying hum ever since I installed the CAI. The humming doesn't happen when drive normally, shift and slowly increase the throttle, but when I stomp on the gas I hear it every gear shift around 3000 to 5000 rpm. When I mash on the gas and shift, it hums only for a short period of time until i shift again. I don't think its a high speed hum issue. I can easily do 120 and not hear a thing, but when i rev at high rpm's I hear that resonating hum.

I'm experiencing a grinding sound that seems to be coming from the rear of the car. I can't tell if it's the tires wearing or it's something else, it's especially prevalent at certain speeds and on a curve..........
I can hear it when going slow and proportionality the grinding is slow... as speed up it's faster and at certain speeds it's quite loud...........it there something besides the rear tires that could be causing that, rear axle? something needs to be lubed?
At first i was sure it was the tires which are turanaza's and they have gotten louder (I think) as the mile have accumulated, but now I'm not sure since i can hear it at low speeds on turns.

I have got a hyundai accent and I was getting a really annoying rattling sound from the boot i have been looking every where to find it and today i have sust it out if you open your boot up and just drive it round the block and it does not rattle then its probably the same problem that i had its the catch that the boot locks on to they must of been a bit of a gap to it and the metal was rattling together on the clip and the lock all u have to do to fix the problem is open your boot up then on clip on the car that the boot locks on to simple apply some installation tape around it so its pretty thick but not to much close your boot and problem solved it should be ok mine is fine now back to silence again now instead of a annoying rattle when driving.

During swap over of winter to summer tires I noticed some holes in the drivers side (left) rear suspension boot (cover). I assume that it is the result of rubbing against the body during suspension compression.
Considering either outright replacement of the boot or a band aid (patch) solution, along with some relieving of the suspected contact area on the body.
Suspension is functioning well otherwise. Car has 170K kilometres.

Early 90's Toyota Corolla.
I've been hearing this sound the past couple weeks coming from the rear of the car. Not related to the rpm, only occurs if the car is moving slowly -- like when I'm driving in a parking lot, looking for a space. Occurs when turning, even slightly, but not when going dead-straight. It it intermittant, seems to occur more often on hot afternoons, never heard it all winter, or even now in the morning. Not that loud, but noticeable. Sounds a little bit like a vibration, sort of a buzzing sound, but more musical than a simple buzz.
The best way I can describe it is that it sounds almost exactly like that sound they make in kids cartoon shows on Saturday morning, when something bad happens, like one of the characters get hit on the head with a baseball bat ..." waah waah waah" .. sort of like a muted trumpet or muted trombone.
Rear wheel bearings? Brakes?

My Phaeton is approaching its 10th day at VW for a number of issues. Only the week before it was serviced and I was told everything was fine. At the service I asked them to look at the power boot and was told it was reset and working....
I took the car back as there was still a noise from the rear side under the car, sometimes when park was engaged the car did not sense it unless you fiddled with the lever whilst in park, the clock was slow and finally the boot would not open properly.
Specifically the boot issue was, When using either the button on the remote or the drivers boot release the boot tried to open around an inch and then immediately shut again. The only way to open it was to press open and then gently force it open. After fiddling for a while I realised that pressing the unlock then pressing the VW logo twice opened it sometimes! But not always.
Anyway VW cannot work out the problem and apparently their technical support has advised them to change the struts! I cant see how this is the issue .

Having owned my 2010 Santa Fe less than a week, am learning and listening to any noises and things that go on with the car to make sure I am happy with it. There have been a couple of things that are easy sorts by the Dealer I bought it from, but I am a little worried about a Clonk noise coming from the rear of the boot and is this normal.
Although I didn't buy the car from Hyundai I still have the remainder of the 5 year warranty and the mileage is low, obviously the dealer I bought it from is the first person to speak too, but I think I should get Hyundai to check as they will no more about the car. It may be something simple but don't want to leave it and find out it could be a major problem, as I am worried about it being related to the Self Leveling Suspension as I know this is costly and obviously would want Hyundai to look into while under warranty.
When I am driving along and go over a rut in the road or a hump or something it's like something in the rear jumps and clonk as it comes back down.
Having just got the car the boot is empty and I haven't even found a load cover for it yet, the 2 rear seats are down, checked the tyres and they have been pumped up to the correct pressure.
I have had a look at the tools and I don't think it is anything moving around there and it would make more of a rattle rather than a clonk. I not sure if I have a spare wheel and whether it is located underneath the car as I can't get down underneath and have a look as I have difficulties with bending, kneeling etc.
If there is a problem with the suspension or shocks etc would it make this sort of noise, would I notice anything in the way it drives etc. The noise sounds a lot like it is inside but can't think what it would be, definitely a sort of sound like something is lifting off and clonking back down.

I am installing the wiring for trailer lights in my 2007 B6 wagon. I need to remove the interior trim panels for this, but I can't find any diagrams or DIYs on where the screws or clips are. I don't want to just go at it and end up putting pressure in the wrong places and breaking clips.

As long as we are mentioning things, the trim/gasket around my rear doors on my 08 Santa Fe does not fit right. You can see it in the attached photo. The gasket is one piece, and there is no way to arrange the slack so that there is not a gap. Maybe someone used the wrong one at the factory, or is this a common/known problem? I'll ask about it the next time I'm in the dealer.

I was pulling our 14k fiver home after a weekend at the lake and I heard a muffled pop sound. About a minute prior I had checked the gauges and everything was normal. It honestly sounded like a chinabomb tire on the ttrailer had popped. Puled over and all tires were good so I popped the hood .....
Here's the bottom half. Is this possibly a warranty item? 2011 with 61k. And no mods. Plus a lot of oil on everything is that normal?

My DSG Autobahn 4 dr with 4800 miles has developed a humming and vibration at highway speeds and my dealer and I are stumped as to what it is. I don't really hear the humming until 60mph+ but then its a 1 second pulsing hum coming from the front of the car and I can feel some vibration through the pedals and floor board.
The dealer has checked all wheel bearings and actually replaced the passenger side front bearing. They have also rotated all the tires and one rim that was slightly bent was swapped with another wheel but this did nothing to eliminate the sound. I'm waiting for my dealer to get back to me of when a VW engineer would be available to have go at it.

Ok, rear latch handle, the black trim around it?
My idea was to wet sand it in place and repaint it. Does that sound like a good idea?
What kind of paint / clear coat to use on her?

Last year, when the passenger's side CV boot ripped and all that grease few around, it started to make that familiar clicking sound when making turns. I had a heck of a time replacing it. Did not like to doing the work.
Now, the driver's side boot is ripped. Grease everywhere. The clicking sound is just starting to be noticeable. Can I just wash out the CV joint and repack it with grease and a new boot? Or, should I just replace the CV joint?

'01 Taurus with an occasional rattle/clunking sound coming from the front end when going over bumps. Took it to the local shopping center auto. service dept. (probably 1st mistake I know) They say the only thing they could find was the RH CV boot was bad and was probably the source of the noise. Doesn't sound right to me since the boot is rubber and what I hear is more of a metal sound..what I was thinking possibly a suspension link or tie rod end. I know what a bad cv JOINT sounds like and it's nothing like this. Now if the CV boot is bad I don't mind to replace it, but I don't want to spend the money if it is not going to solve the problem. I've never heard of a boot making noise before.

I just got a new Golf TDI. I have about 500 miles on it so far. I recently went over a speed bump in the road and the car made an awful clunk sound sort of like the strut reached the end of its length reach. The car continued to make this klunk sound when I'd go over smaller bumps just not as loud. What this could be and how to remedy it?

So I've had my R now for almost 6 months now and my PSS10's have been in it since day 1. I bought the car approx 4 months used with 8200kms on it. It's now at 16600km's.
Ever since I've had it, there's been a front end suspension noise that reminds me very much of the typical upper strut mount bearing and bushing noises. It's like a popping sound.
It only happens at low speed(parking lot) but with most moves like fwd, rev, turns and straight lines. The upper strut mount bearings and bushings were just replaced < 2 weeks ago, but it still does it and just as bad.

I've got a 2003 camry LE/V6. The interior trim fabric to the right and left of the rear window is curling back on the trim panel away from the glass. This has been happening slowly over a year or so and now has reached a point of requiring repair. I've searched the site, but haven't found anything directly related. These panels appear to be separate from the headliner and the rear window shelf. How these panels come out? If these snap into clips and can be removed, I might be able to match fabric closely enough to be OK.
