Golf V R32 :: Rear Diff Buzzing Noise - Sport Mode
May 1, 2013
So since I added the spark cut tune, I've had this weird buzzing noise when it's down gearing. It doesn't do it in D though which is odd. What could be wrong?

View 2 RepliesHear a vibration kind of noise coming from the engine when accelerating in 4-6 gear at a lower RPM? It ONLY seems to happen in sport mode with the soundakator on. Normal mode it doesn't. I thought maybe flutter but I'm not flooring it in low RPM/high gear... even just halfway throttle.
I should say I have a JB1 and K&N drop-in installed.
Fixed my AWD. Needed a new Haldex pump. Did a fluid change and new Haldex filter. All using factory stuff.
AWD works great now. The problem though is when im making tight slow speed turns. I.E. backing out of a parking stall. I get a noise from the rear diff like something rubbing, or a tire skidding.
Is this normal? I bought my car from the dealership without my AWD working and just got it fixed, so I really didn't know what an AWD R32 was like.
Upon moderate to hard acceleration I hear an intermittent spinning-like vibration noise from the rear diff area...is that normal?
View 1 Repliesanyway to set it up so it always starts in S or S+ mode so I don't have to always remember to do it.
View 8 RepliesIt's just the throttle response? Is steering or brakes enhanced or is it just me? I know the Is250 didn't get the suspension option like the IS350.
View 10 RepliesSo i bought my car 3 weeks ago knowing it had a bad rear diff vw is wanting to charge 2500 to 3000 to replace it (and i work sales). If i've found some used ones.
View 14 RepliesI know that sport mode raises the rpm at which shifts occur, but it feels like this mode also makes the throttle response more sensitive. Though, this could be because Sport keeps the needle in the primo range of the power band.
And at the risk of turning this thread into another topic: Does race, either over revving at a light, or just being passes aggressively and stuff like that? This is somewhat geographically dependent. I am originally from PA and live here now and people try and race me all the time, or drive more agressively around me than I feel they otherwise would were in a less sick car.
Yesterday I noticed the rear driver's side speaker buzzing in my GTI S. Is it possible that I already have a blown speaker (I don't usually crank the system)? Maybe it has something to do with the -5 temps? Anyway, should I take it to the dealer or see about getting some aftermarket speakers since the S sound system is pretty mediocre?
View 9 RepliesSo I put the R up in the lift today to look for a rattle underneath and I ran into this..
View 7 RepliesI am feeling disappointed just came out of a lemon law suit with a kia optima I bought two years ago. I figured we'll I should buy a better brand this time which my brother recommended cause I was going to buy another Infiniti I always had good things with those cars. But the last 2 nights I have been hearing a squeaking noise in my rear end of my brand new IS 350 F Sport. Only in sport plus mode. I was driving home from work at 2 am and driving through a canyon road cause I want to see how this car does as soon as the road got a little bumpy I was hearing a squeaking noise come out of the rear of the car. Then I get home and I hear it going over my speed bumps in my complex of my condos. So I think we'll that's odd. I take it out of sport plus mode and back to eco and drive around the complex again and it goes away. Remind you I have 484 miles on the car.
View 3 RepliesMy rear diff had recently started to whine on decel, what I am looking to find out is, would replacing the stock rear diff itself with a peloquin unit be enough of a fix, or should the whole rear housing be replaced as well? I don't want to buy a peloquin rear diff and install it and still have issues because of the pinion shaft being the culprit or something else.
View 6 RepliesI have been driving my 2014 Sonata GLS in Sport mode with no problem. However, two days ago the engine got extremely noisy. I checked the Comfort and Normal modes - definitely no scary noise. Is this common?
View 12 RepliesTop and bottom left. Where the 2 vac lines on the rear diff/haldex unit goes?
View 1 RepliesThis problem started in Jan this year and got worse through feb, got it checked in march to find out it had metal shavings and chucks stuck to the magnet. Ive searched the forums for the last few weeks but noticed no one seemed to point out if you can drive it while its like this or is this a recipe for disaster. other than the droning/whining the car will fight me will going in reverse while turning which has happened twice. Need to get the whole rear diff/haldex replaced....
View 7 RepliesSo i noticed, when in auto mode, whether sport mode is on or off, it does the same thing. If i floor it from a stand still, the transmission takes noticeably longer to go from 1st into 2nd then from 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th, etc. 1st to 2nd takes like a good second, kinda like this:
1st VROOOOM.....................2nd VROOOM..3rd VROOOM..4th.....etc..
If I drive it in manual mode, then it shifts just as fast. So this only happens in auto.
My GS350 barely has 20k miles and started doing this recently. When I would have the fan in "circulate air" mode and blower on highest, the blower makes a very loud buzzing noise and strong vibration. The blower is on the passenger side next to the glove box. When the air is pass through it does not do this.
View 10 RepliesI bought my wife a 2007 Ford sport trac about six months ago. It has always made a very peculiar sound. It only makes this noise when you are driving about 50 mph uphill. The sound is rhythmic and coming from the rear of the truck. I would compare it to driving over sets of rumble strips but quieter. The vehicle is 4x4 and my theory is that it has something to do with this.
View 6 RepliesI recently had my rear axle seals replaced due to leaking. Does the rear diff fluid get replaced on that repair since the rear diff cover comes off? Trying to figure out when my next interval for changing rear diff fluid should be.
View 1 RepliesRecently picked up a CPO 2013 F-Sport and I've been experiencing a subtle clunking noise over sharp bumps (like raised expansion joints) or potholes at speed. It's a very subtle clunk that comes from the front and rear end, not attributable to any specific corner of the car.The sound completely disappears when I flip it to Sport+ mode, leading me to wonder if the noise is just inherent to the adjustable suspension. Additionally, I didn't notice the noise until after a new set of Michelin Pilot SSs which replaced some cheap dealer tires (Accelera Phis) with very soft sidewalls.
It's not an alarming noise but it does have 53K on the odo so I'm curious as to whether this is indicative of impending bushing/strut issues or if it's normal and other F-Sport owners experience the same noise.
Prior to this I had 2009 STi (low profile tires, stiffer suspension) and never heard any clunking type noise over these same bumps (expansion joints, potholes) so it does have me slightly worried.
I've owned my 2011 IS-F for a couple of month now. I know the Sport Mode give the car crisper throttle response and it shifts quicker. Does the Sport Mode do anything else?
