I've been hearing a loud whining type or sucking noise out of my engine bay every time i give gas its louder then my exhaust almost when coming to complete stock .. Its been happening since i bought the car at 50k now it has 79k .. should i be concern or how can i fix it.
View 4 RepliesI bought this Subaru used with 350 000 km's on it,and I haven't added that many kilometers to it yet at all. For some reason whenever I drive on the highway and get my speed up to about 120 the front left part of the car (somewhere underneath the hood I believe) starts to make a loud gurgling type of noise. I know that the suspension on that front left tire is missing, but I don't feel the rumbling on my steering wheel and I don't think it's coming from there.
View 8 RepliesThis started yesterday. A Loud grinding type noise from the top of the engine. As soon as I touch the throttle the noise goes away. I checked the pulleys and TC and everything checks out. Sounds like it's coming from the HPOP gear area like a gear train noise. Maybe the additional oil pressure has something to do with the HPOP inside getting quiet.
View 7 RepliesI have a new GTI which is awesome, but second gear has a very loud whining noise. Very easy to reproduce: in second gear rev it up to 3000 rpm and let go of the gas. This happens only in second gear. Under a moderate acceleration or while engine braking. Should I be worried, should i have it checked? Is this normal? It is a 6 speed manual gear box.
View 24 RepliesThis time it's about my tranny. After putting on 034 motorsport track density mounts, this whining noise started coming apparent and it's pretty loud and it's coming from the tranny area. Not sure of the fact that the mounts are so stiff has anything to do with it, but here goes...
It's like a slight grinding/mechanical whine noise that happens only when in gear and under load. It gets louder as the speed/rpm's get higher and happens in every gear. Funny, but sounds like a mechanical supercharger whine that you'd get from a supercharged car. When the car is idling, there is nothing wrong/no noise.
Clutch is not slipping, power feels just like it did before, my clutch pedal doesn't get stuck nor is it hard to push down.
A few initial diagnoses from friends were that there is some sort of shaft play in the tranny or that it may very well be a synchro.
I have a 2006 lexus es 330 that just turned over 90,000 miles. My dad and I have done the regular maintenance on it so far but this weekend after a 3 hour drive, I turned the car back on and a loud whirring/humming/whining noise was coming from the engine. It gets slightly louder with acceleration, but I can barely hear it once I've picked up speed (but it's still there.) It still happens when I am in neutral. It sounds like it is coming from the passenger side of the engine. Close to the power steering pump area, but the power steering fluid is full (although it is a very dark/black color and has a slight smell...not sure if this is normal.) I'm not having any trouble or hesitation while steering. The rack is operating smoothly and it is not leaking. I plan on taking it into the shop but wanted to go in educated.
View 3 RepliesSo I started getting this metallic/harmonic whining sound from my GTI's engine a few weeks ago. It was barely noticeable then, but has now gotten louder and more consistent. The sound occurs once the engine has warmed up and can be reproduced by holding the revs constant anywhere above 2k. The sound does not change in pitch with engine speed. It doesn't matter if the car is parked or moving.
I've attached a video... The sound can heard starting at 00:23 and becomes constant after a few seconds. Its hard to hear at first, but if you listen carefully its definitely there.
I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow and will update with their findings. In the meantime, any clue as to what this could be? I can't really pinpoint where its coming from, seems loudest near where the oil filter is? By the way I'm 100% stock.
Well, Car is in the shop to get the trans looked at. Loud whining noise in 1, 2, 3. corresponds with engine speed, not road speed. I think input shaft bearings are shot. Going to get a new clutch and throwout bearing while it's out. 116K miles.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2002 Honda Civic EX with 146,000 miles. It started making a whining/high pitched humming type noise whenever I turned. Every now and then it makes the same noise (though not as loud) when I'm just driving straight.
When I checked my power steering fluid, it was low, so I added to it. That worked with the noise briefly, but now it's back and the fluid level is fine.
Had my R for the last 2 months and just recently have noticed a quiet ticking type noise (e.g tuck tuck tuck tuck tuck) at low revs (1500) 1st/2nd gear. What this may be? it seems to be coming from the top right hand side of the engine.
View 3 RepliesWhen I drive 60 miles exact constantly with windows closed and radio off, I hear a whine noise coming from the engine. I do not know if it's the engine or the gear shift of the transmission. If I drive over 65 mph or less than 55 mph, there is no whine sound at all. Is this normal?
View 1 RepliesI'm getting a loud gurgling type pump noise when removing the fuel cap. It is really something I have never heard before on any vehicle. It's not a quick hissing noise. It is a constant motor type noise coming from the fuel filler. I tried it again today because the dealer was there, but since I have a 1/2 tank of gas it did not happen.
Each time I have needed to fuel up, I've heard it. So I suspect this noise occurs when the tank is low...within 3-4 gallons left.
While I was driving today, I noticed a "whining" noise that sounded like a belt squealing that got louder as I increased speed. I pulled over to check the see if it was in fact a belt, and when the engine was revved in park, I heard nothing. As soon as I started to move, the noise started, then increased in volume.
I assume that this is some sort of wheel related problem.The sound seems to be coming from the right rear wheel. I just got back from the dealer. The tech said that the main bearing in the drive shaft is bad. They have to replace the whole drive shaft to fix the problem. I am glad that it didn't completely fail while on the interstate, I bet it would have done some damage.
Here is the noise that I am getting... Ignore the ticks and such, I'm talking about the LOUD whining noise at startup, and continuing at idle(although somewhat quieter)

Some information : 2006 Camry 2.4L.
I have removed the belt to verify that the noise is not from any belt-driven components. Using an Engine Ear, it gets louder towards the exhaust manifold, but apart from starting to tear things down.
2006 Sonata 3.3 V6 with 101,000 miles. At a cold start there is a loud whining noise coming from the engine on the passenger side. After the car warms up the whining goes away. The car has not had any noise before. It is progressively getting worse.
View 7 RepliesMy 2001 VW New Beetle has started making a loud, whining noise coming from outside the car along w/ some buzzing whenever I am driving. I find that I have to change gears about 10 miles sooner than I should in order to stop the noise. But now it's happening in 5th gear occasionally too, and of course I can't go to a higher gear to make it shut up. What could this mean?
View 3 RepliesI have been having problems with a loud whining noise when I steer in cold weather (approx 35 degrees F) and only after the car has warmed up. Now, before everyone tells me about the Honda Service bulletin addressing this problem, I will tell you I had the Power Steering reservoir replaced at 65K miles, per the service bulletin. However, the problem came BACK after another 35K on the van. The dealership then replaced the inlet pipe O-ring on the power steering pump which ended up NOT fixing the problem. So I still have a fairly new power steering reservoir, a new O-ring AND the loud whine. Am I doomed to replace this every 35K miles or is there some other problem that is buried deeper than the PS reservoir? (And the loud whine you hear really is coming from the van....but soon I might be joining it.)
View 4 RepliesStarted the car the other day and a loud whining noise followed by the car "jumping" when I stepped on the gas. It would go/stop for a second, then shut down. Mechanic who is not a Prius expert said it was the tranny. He could put in a used one (77k miles). Car has 250k miles on it. Is it worth it? Or should I just part it out. I'm worried about things like the battery going next.
View 8 RepliesMy '03 Jeep Grand Cherokee seems to be having an array of problems lately, I think they might be related. Almost 100,000 and its falling apart on me. When I start it up on cold mornings it has a loud whining noise. The check gauges light comes on and shows the oil temp as being cold. After leaving it idle for a bit, I will go to drive it and the heater will shut itself off. Later in the day after the first cold start, the loud whining and check gauges light don't happen again. But the heat shuts off every now and then. Is it all related?
View 9 RepliesOur 46K mile 2012 Tiguan starting making some pretty loud whining/growling/rattling engine noises recently so I took it to the dealer shop and they diagnosed a bad accessory belt tensioner. However, they didn't have one in stock and would have to order it. Well, that's fine but it's a 300 mile round trip to the dealer so I came home and ordered one from ECS Tuning.
I found a copy of an official VW (ETKA?) procedure on the web for replacing the tensioner for the TSI in a Golf so I suspect the procedure for a Tiguan is similar: remove the bolt for the secondary water pump and move the pump out of the way, remove the end bolt on the tensioner mounting shaft, remove the three bolts from the pendulum/dogbone, support the engine, remove the top two bolts from the passenger side engine mount, drop the engine about 2 inches and pull the tensioner out.
To be honest, I was very surprised that the dealership didn't have a tensioner in stock. This was a rather large and pretty good dealership shop (three service advisors). I guess accessory tensioner failure is really rare on the TSI.
My Odyssey has 110,000 miles but since about 50,000 miles (I can't exactly remember) it makes a loud wining sound from the engine when I slow down, gets louder when I turn a corner, like going into a parking spot. The problem is it comes and goes and I can't seem to pin point what kind of weather or other conditions make it happen.
