Golf V R32 :: Interior Clicking Noise - Electronic Not Mechanical
Aug 2, 2009
I began noticing a clicking noise inside this week as I've been driving with the windows up this past week. (Had to run AC because of the humidity) It happens when first moving and accelerating from either a stand still or rolling at a very low speed. It sounds like a relay is clicking on near the center console or rear seat. It then clicks again when slowing down to a slow roll or complete stop. I've only really began noticing this week, but I think the noise started after the recall. Could it be a relay that I just haven't noticed before? Now that I notice it, I always hear it clicking, even when I've got music on.

Finally I'm having my first issue with my Touareg! Coming to work today i noticed that even though i had flipped on my signal via the stalk, there was no mention of it on the dash and no clicking noise. I look off the reflection of the car in front of me and indeed me exterior turn signals work just fine. I get to work, shut off the car and turn it back on. Flip on the turn signal and the inside signal flashes once then goes off again. I again turn off and on the car and get the same result.

I am a fairly new 2013 Prius C (Four) owner and I was wondering about cabin noise, specifically plastic clicking and popping. My questions is about, plastic clicking and popping sounds coming from the dash area?
It's hard to pinpoint exactly where but most of the sounds comes from the far left and right corners, close to the window vents where the windshield meets the dash. I do also notice some noise around the middle of the dash as well. This occurs on any type of road condition but is of course aggravated with rougher road surfaces. I don't believe it to be a small piece of plastic bouncing around but more of loose panels or something of that nature but I'm not sure.

Situation: In recent months I have noticed a new noise in my R. The noise only appeared while driving at various times which lead me to believe it was from local cell towers that I passed during my commute, or when exceeding approximately 55 mph. The noise has since increased in frequency and happens at various speeds. I cannot determine what triggers it or what component it is from.
A local friend of mine just purchased an R32 and he is now noticing the same noise in his car. It is in both of our cars and happens when exceding 40mph. We do not know if it is a model specific issue or caused by a local environmental source (radio, cellular, military).
Description: Electrical buzzing noise. Resembles the sound of when you used to have a cellphone close to a stereo/pc speaker. The noise comes from the dash cluster area. It can be from a spontaneous periodic chirp to a constant pulsing buzz. Very faint, but very annoying.
The sound makes me assume there is electrical interference with the dash warning chime or something to that effect. I even considered the PMS getting/causing radio interference. My friends R32 has a normal TPMS, but my TPMS has been disabled.
Additional info:
Both cars are stock except for the addition of Hockeypucks.
Car 1: MFD2 w/ active Satellite Radio, TPMS Disabled, AT&T Cell Service, Samsung GS2
Car 2: Premium 7 w/ active Satellite Radio, TPMS Enabled, Sprint Cell Service, iPhone
Eliminated variables:
Seat Heaters
Mirror Heaters
Wipers
Example of the noise: 0:06 - 0:13
Some testing has lead me to acknowledge it is a vibration issue derived from road surface. It appears to be in the area of the vin plate, but that has yet to be determined as fact.

I have a 2008 RX350. When i shut off the engine and pull the key out i hear a constant clicking sound. I dont really know where its coming from but i can kind of pin point it maybe to the windows or door i'm not too sure. I also notice the interior light flickering to the same pattern as the clicking noise.
Second problem - in the middle of the night the alarm goes off! Its the alarm without the horn noise. For some reason i cant switch it off with the fob key. No matter what i do i cant switch it off. So it goes on for about 20 seconds and stops. I just leave the car unlocked after that and it doesnt come back. The alarm noise is coming from the boot....
Third problem Now the navigation screen flickers. Blacks out then the lexus emblem appears then switches back on itself.

I have my Ex parked in the driveway, as the weather has been nice and I've been taking my motorcycle everywhere.
I went to get something out of it the other day... Opened the door and it sounds like I've left the hazards on... There's a clicking coming from the dashboard and the overhead lights, and running board lights blink. If I shut the door, it stops.
Do I need to call in a priest?

I installed an EP27 electronic turn signal relay and changed the tail bulbs to Sylvania red 3157Rs in our Exped and everything works fine. I installed another EP27 in our Excur and the relay starts clicking when nothing is on and nothing else has been changed - all stock bulbs and working fine before.
No lights are blinking, but the EP27 turn signal relay is clicking away. Select left turn, right turn or hazard lights and they blink fine. Deselect the lights and the relay continues to click. Swapped the relay from the Exped to the Excur and it clicks, too. Reinstalled the stock turn signal relay and all is fine. There must be some difference or problem in the wiring, it doesn't make sense.

I find that when I walk out to my garage in the morning and open the driver's door to get in, I hear what sounds like a small electric motor spinning for a second or two.
Clearly some system in the car initializes itself when the door opens, even before the key is inserted. What is it?

I have a 2-door gti that is relatively brand new. One thing I've noticed though is that the driver-side has a mechanical squeak/straining sound when I lean with some force in to the right side of the chair. I figured this was not normal, what it might be?

When I open the drivers side door I hear a mechanical noise like the seat is moving back or sideview mirrors are adjusting, you know that kind of grindy electric mechanical sound. But I don't see anything moving, just hear a motor working? What is moving or supposed to be moving? I have a 2012 2.5L SEL no memory seats.

This has happened twice so far, both with around 1/2 tank. After driving for ~25 minutes to work, I will go to shut the car off, and after pushing the key in and pulling it out, there is a mechanical noise from the rear of the car that lasts for about 2 full seconds. Is this the sound of the fuel pump on its way out? Or just an electrical gremlin (no! not in a VW!)?

I was warming my truck up this morning and I turned my wipers on to get the bit of snow on my windshield off. The wipers moved a few inches, stopped, and a mechanical buzzing noise is coming from under the wipers. I can move the wipers with my hand and they'll go all the way up and return to the bottom, but do the exact same thing when they move again. I searched the forum but can't find anything about the wiper problem I'm having. I also see a lot of discussion about GEM in relation to wipers...

I have an intermittent noise that I believe might be transmission. Here are 2 recordings first with nose and second without. I haven't the mic behind the front wheel and I walk around the front to the passenger side.

I am looking to purchase a 1993 Chrysler New Yorker and when I test drove it I noticed that every time the brake pedal was pushed a mechanical whirring noise was audible. This happened every time the brake was pushed whether the car was moving or not. The car brakes seemed to work fine and there were no other noises associated with normal brake problems. The noise seemed to come from inside the car. What that might be? Also, any other reasons to not buy a 93 New Yorker with about 115,000 miles on it for cheap?

I've already replaced the Alternator and Water Pump today and I still cannot get rid of the noise and cold start squeal. The squeal goes away after the engine is warmed. A/C Compressor?

Car: 2013 4 door GTI
I am looking for the part number for the rear drivers side window sweep/weather stripping for the interior. I think some adhesive from the old tint got on it and it is squeaking. When I wet it with windex, it stops the noise but I can see lines where it's touching the window.

Ever notice when you shut off the engine and get out of your tig sometimes there is a motor whizzing sound near the rear? Well I finally noticed what it was. Just so happened to be looking down at my electronic parking brake when the sound occurred and noticed the indicating light on my parking brake turn on and off with the sound. It must be cycling the parking brake to keep it in good working order.

I am new to VW. I just purchased 2 new cars on Monday of this week. A 2012 Jetta SE for my wife and a 2012 Passat SE for me. We are loving both of these cars. I have a question though. If my car has been locked for a little while, I unlock the car, open the door, I hear a noise inside the car as if an electronic motor is running. It only last for a second or 2 and I can't pinpoint the noise. It almost sounds like the power seat is moving but I don't think that is it. Hear that noise when are entering your car?

Got my golf r about a month ago, currently has around 2000 miles on it, no mods..I noticed today the shifter makes a weird clicking feel (not the clutch) when shifting down, I hear and feel it most when going to 2nd..
It wasn't making any noise before or doing this at all. Doesn't affect performance from what I can tell but it is quite annoying, any thing I can do? Is this just wear and tear? Wasn't a gradual increase, came from nowhere...

Our 2012 elantra gls with 112k miles on it decided to freak out yesterday.
Car wont turn over at all. there is also a clicking sound coming from the interior fuse block. I popped the hood and smelled sulfur. I put the volt meter to the battery and it shows 12.8 ish. I checked all the fuses and didn't find any blown. I also pulled the starter relay and tested it and it checked out.
Trying to turn the car over some times the dash light will flicker and the wipers will turn on by themselves. I also had a clicking sound coming from the fuse block under the hood. Interior lights come on but are dim and the parking light flicker a bit and fade. I downloaded the manual but am not sure what to look for at this point.
