Was driving to work this morning and my exhaust suddenly got super loud. I did not hit anything. I was cruising through the interstate. Took the car to the dealer to find out my resonator is broken. I have a GHL exhaust. Why would this happen?
View 24 RepliesThe clamp connecting the resonator and the catalytic converter is leaking around the edges. I changed the bolts and tightened the clamp but still leaking.
View 24 RepliesI have a 93 ford taurus 3.8L V6 automatic GL. The exhaust clamp between the resonator and exhaust pipe came off and I need to know what size clamp I will need to replace it. I think it is a 2 inch but I am not sure.
View 1 RepliesI was in my first torrential downpour in the R yesterday and when it was at its worst the exhaust suddenly went from flapper-modded to extremely loud, from what sounded like the center point of the car, almost as if the exhaust joint came loose, but once it had a minute to dry after the rain stopped it went away.
View 3 RepliesNoticed a louder sound to my exhaust. Cuts out when ice shuts off. Haven't got a good look at the whole exhaust system from underneath but did see water drip out from the engine side of the resonator when the car was warming up. The sound is coming from about midpoint between the taiI pipe and the engine. I suspect the weld at the resonator junction is breaking. Is this common? 2008, Canada, 130000 km.
View 7 RepliesI had my E in for service today to get her fluids changed and to replace her engine oil with Synthetic finally (second service for her).
I had noticed a rattle in the undercarriage for a few weeks now and assumed it was a common TSB for a heat shield that rattles. As it turns out, it is the resonator pipe that needs to be replaced (under warranty). I've never had to replace one before so hopefully it's just a one-off!
Otherwise, I can already tell she's happy to be filled with some wonderful Synthetic...
I have an 2003 Explorer 4.0 and I am looking at replacing my muffler. Only problem is I don't know who to go with. I am looking for a mellow tone with minimal interior noise. I have been looking at Flowmaster, Magnaflow & Dynomax although I can't make a decision. I have heard how the 4.0 Ranger sound's on Magnaflows website(sound's OK) aside from all the horrible sound clips floating around that don't have good quality to listen too. I was looking at Flowmaster 50 series Delta Flow and there SUV muffler(a tad thicker than Delta series) but want some feedback on who/what to go with. Also, right before the tailpipe ends, next to the spare tire underneath, there looks to be what looks like a resonator if I am correct on the tailpipe. Can this be removed and replaced with new piping? Will it hurt performance or make the exhaust sound different?
View 14 RepliesI've got the dreaded broken exhaust manifold studs on my 2004 F250 V10. I don't drive it much (just 50,000 miles in 10 years) and confess I've ignored the hissing for quite a while. Is there really a permanent fix for these broken studs? Or should I expect to be replacing broken studs every 2 or 3 years?
If there is a permanent fix what is it? Special studs? Special manifold? I want to keep this truck a long time and don't want to be replacing these studs every few years.
This morning on the freeway, I was going to pass someone in 6th gear, put the pedal down start accelerating like normal, then suddenly at a little over 3k RPM the sound of the exhaust gets a lot deeper and it accelerates a little bit harder.
I know that boost starts to really kick in at about 3k RPM, but I have never noticed the exhaust get deeper like that. I did it a few more times and it seemed to stop doing it. I didn't notice the tachometer jumping around or anything so I don't think it is clutch slip.
Our F-450 with 102000 miles lost both turbos also broken exhaust manifold bolts. This truck carries tools fuel tank and sometimes skid loader on trailer. Heard lots of bad things about 6.4 liter motor now first hand experience. Asked dealer if 6500.00 bill could be reduced since so close to 100000 mile warranty and was told nothing could be done. Can not afford to sell truck now also have two other Ford F-250s newest one 2012. Is there any other approach that could be taken to get some relief from this expense.

View 5 RepliesMy wife's 97 f150 4x4 had an exhaust leak on the passenger side. 7 out of the 8 bolts holding the manifold on are snapped off. 4 of them are snapped off 1/8" below the top of the hole on the cylinder head . I am I unable to get a drill in to drill these out. The other 3 I've tried welding a nut on these but they won't budge and I wring the nuts off. If I have to pull the head(something I don't want to do)can I just pull that 1 head or do I have to tear the intake and everything off?
View 1 RepliesI got a 08 ford f450 sd in the shop with a cracked abd broken bolt in the driver's side exhaust manifold, any tips tricks on getting it out,I have everything loose but I can't for the life of me get the egr cooler out of the way to access the top bolts to the manifold so I can replace the manifold, or a link to a service manual would be great.
View 3 RepliesMy Uncle has a 1999 F250 with 260K miles. Engine, fuel and exhaust systems have never been touched. Saturday he pulled his 26 foot horse trailer throughout WA with no problems. Sunday he went to take the truck to town and noticed that he suddenly had a lack of power, and some smoke (possibly blue-ish) coming from the exhaust. He has been told "injectors" by a couple people, "turbo" by some, and "injector harness/valve cover gasket" by others.
View 3 RepliesGot my Magnaflow resonator in the mail today. Called up my exhaust shop and they are willing to tackle it but were wondering "where to cut" and "what about the internal baffles". Do you cut and shorten the center of the resonator by 7 inches or do you cut at one of the ends and shorten it from there 7 inches?
The picture I saw on TampaVW's thread shows it having been rewelded from the exit side (IIRC) but what about the internal baffles?
I am looking at buying a MKIV R32 and it's in great condition, almost completely stock, and less than 50k miles on it. Although It has the flapper mod, and resonator delete mod installed. I know how to undo the flapper mod, but I was wondering how I could undo the resonator mod.

I know the exhaust is loud as all the reviews say and i know there are videos on youtube of the exhaust but its always either with the windows down or windows up and radio off. I just want to know how much louder than stock it is just cruising with windows up and radio on if i want some sort of quiet.

There is a loud hissing noise that overwhelms the exhaust, turbo and engine noise. What it is. Sounds like a loud hissing when then turbo begins to kick it. Not normal, and it slowly has gotten worse and more noticeable.
I have a feeling its the downpipe, but I can't check it myself. When i give it gas and the hood is open (at a standstill obviously), the engine compartment smells like exhaust fumes.
Could be playing mind games with myself. What do you all think? Any way to surely test and see? I am taking it to dealership on Tuesday to double check.
Is the eip race exhaust to loud for daily driving? People have told me that it would be to loud but I like loud. I looked on YouTube for soundclips but I only found two and one was pretty raspy.
