Noticed this shortly after taking delivery but now it's become worse. When I'm under hard throttle or on really grainy/old paved roads I can hear this rattle like there is no tomorrow. At first, I thought it was something plastic behind the speedo and I tried pressing/tapping and praying for this to go away haha.
I've come to realize it's coming from the dashboard where the VIN plate is attached.
2005 Camry SE 4cyl 5 speed stick. 126k miles bought new well maintained with a minimum of problems. In the last couple of weeks a funny type of rattle has developed in the right dash area. Sounds like a snapping noise when I go over certain types of road imperfections. Almost like a loose small light bulb socket inside hitting something. Tried it with the glove box open no change. Can't see anything wrong behind the glove box where you change the cabin filter. No recent change in any control operation or electrical issues concerning the dash area.
View 3 RepliesDashboard rattle/squeak noises in the 2013 TOYOTA COROLLA ZRE182R ASCENT SPORT S-CVT. I purchased this car in Feb 2013, brand new.
A rattle began to develop around the dashboard area. At first, it sounded like a rattle on the left side of the dash near the aircon vent. It took two visits to the dealership service center to repair the rattle.
Within a week of the second visit, the rattle came back - this time in two places, and much worse. The second rattle noise appears to be coming from behind the wheel. Hard to describe the sound, it's more like a high pitched squeaking rather than a dull rattle.
To date I have had wires/brackets either replaced and/or tightened, and also foam applied in numerous places. Still, the rattle persists.
I don't want to have the dash removed to fix the VIN plate rattle. I feel like this car is slowly falling apart.
View 11 RepliesYesterday, the dealer performed the 20K service on my '11 GTI. A bit later in the day, I noticed that every time I turned left or right I could hear something rolling/rattling back and forth in the dashboard/cowl area. It's audibly going quite far, almost from one side of the car clear to the other. At first I thought it was on top of the dash, but there was nothing there. It's clearly coming from inside someplace, and I never heard it before the service. My guess is that something came loose when they changed the cabin air filter.
I called the dealership, and after blowing some smoke about my possibly having parked under an oak tree, they said to bring it back in, which I can't do until tomorrow.
I bought a 2010 Tiguan in April and have loved it, except for an annoying rattle in the dash. I took it to the dealer a few weeks ago and they couldn't find it. Took it back, they had it for two weeks - still couldn't find it, and ended up calling in Volkswagen engineering. Apparently, I have one of six cars that has this problem, VW is trying to find a fix. I picked up my car on Friday and realized that the bluetooth wasn't working and they'd put scratches on my dash. There were also grease marks on part of the plastic, and my gas light was on. Took it back yesterday, they fixed the bluetooth and put a small hole in my headliner in the process. I don't know what to do, the dealer said they would try to patch it, but it's right up front where I'll have to look at it all the time. I really want them to replace it, but at this point I'm worried what else they'll screw up.
View 9 RepliesThere is some kind of annoying noise coming from the area near the shifter, I took everything out of the storage compartment and cup holders and still I get this sound like the is a tiny screw rattling around at that area. if I push on the side of the console it stops then returns.
View 2 RepliesHave a super annoying rattle from the top vent on top of the dashboard in the middle. I can put my wifes handbag on it in order to stop it. Told the dealer about it the past 4 visits and get different answers every time but no fixes. Passed 15k miles and now they say rattle warranty is over so how hard is it to take the vent off so i can doctor some foam tape or something in there?
View 9 RepliesEver since the weather has warmed up to open the pano roof, I've noticed it rattles terribly. It never did this before the winter.
It rattles even when I'm driving slow, and actually that's usually only when I can actually hear it because at higher speeds the rushing wind drowns it out.
This noise is driving me crazy and i can't find out what's making it. When I go around a tight corner, I get a sound that sounds like a small metal ball rolling across thin metal. It almost sounds like what I imagine a ball bearing rolling around in an aluminum roasting pan would sound like.
It's coming from the general area of the driver's seat. It's not very loud, but loud enough that it's driving me nuts. Something is definitely rolling around somewhere, but where to start looking.
What it might be or where to start looking? I'm tempted to pull up the carpet and see if anything got under there, but I doubt there's enough room between the carpet and floorpan for something to roll around this freely.
I have taken it to the dealership and they claim they can't hear anything and I'll have to wait for it to get worse. The noise emanates from the front left wheel well area. It is only heard at low speeds (under 20-25mph) on areas of semi-rough or undulating pavement. It sounds like a loose shock or something....
I've seen on other boards that there have been problems with other Lexus vehicles and the struts, upper and lower insulators, mounts and bump stops.
Every time I hit a bump, even a small one, I get a high-pitched rattle from the center of my dashboard that sounds just like a cricket chirp. I'll bring it up when I visit the dealer for a courtesy check-up, but Was it diagnosed and repaired?
View 24 RepliesFor those people who received a holeless grill in a 2 plate state how did you mount your front plate. I am supposed to have the holeless grill installed this Wednesday. I was thinking about using zip ties and mount it underneath it's original location but I am afraid that I will be blocking the radiator. I could do it by the side grill.
View 24 RepliesEver since day one with my new MKVII GTI, there has been a consistent metallic (tinny - like the sound of someone shaking a soda can with the tab inside) coming from what seems like the passenger side footwells. This rattle can only be heard at low RPM. I can hear it most around 2,000 RPM, and I can force it to happen by applying light pressure to the gas peddle. I don't know if the rattle doesn't happen at higher RPM, or if I just can't hear it over the engine and the typical road noise. The rattle is pretty consistent in tempo.
I've done some research, but can't determine if it's the waste gate actuator, fuel lines, or something else. I'm new to maintaining cars properly and I'm not the most mechanically savvy person, but I want to learn. So, I haven't tried to locate the actuator because I don't know where to start and I haven't tried to "tie down" the fuel lines because I'm not comfortable doing this fix on my own.
I've taken the car to the dealership once, and I was told that the waste gate actuator doesn't even exist on the MKVII. Interestingly, two different techs told me this. They deny that the actuator is even real, much less causing any problems. I suppose it could also be the armrest, as some people say it tends to sound like it's coming from the passenger side.
This rattle goes away when I open the sunglasses holder and pinch the roof together. It's not the sunglasses holder door itself. Any write up on how to open this up so I can check out what's in there?
View 5 RepliesI have weird sound from the engine bay area when i accelerate. Some describe this sound as "pop rocks in a soda can", "rattling of metal washers" or "fast ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-". I read all the posts and apparently its the TSI engine's turbo's waste gate which is not replaceable because its riveted on to the turbo (FSI's turbo's waste gate was apparently bolted on) is responsible for the noise.
I thought something was loose in my engine bay. I thought it was just MY CAR, so I planned on mentioning it when i go in for my first oil change, but I ran into this thread and figured out that it is a widespread "annoyance" (not a "problem" because VW claims that this noise is "normal").
This noise comes in around 2400rpm~3000rpm on my car if you give it around 1/3 ~1/2 throttle. This noise can be replicated on my car on all the gears pretty much (i have DSG fyi) with the windows rolled up. (if you cant make it out, try rolling down the window)
The noise sounds horrible! (to me at least). It's like I am driving something that's put together poorly and it is also quite embarrassing when you have a passenger with you...
Recently I have gotten a very loud and annoying rattle coming from my heat shield I think. I jacked the car up and tried to locate where the issue was but that wasn't successful. Do I need the heat shield by the muffler? And do you think it could be my cat rattling?
View 14 RepliesI own a 2004 Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition with 182,000 on the clock that has developed a very annoying engine rattle. The rattle started just shortly after having some service done on the truck. I had the P/S, Brake, Transmission and Rear diff fluids replaced. I also had the A/C system evacuated and recharged along with replacing the A/C manifold line and rack and pinion. The noise is most noticeable at first start and goes away when driving.
I took it to Ford and they said that the timing belt tensioners were bad so they were replaced, but the noise was still there. Then they replaced the serpentine belt tensioner and pulley, but again noise is still there. I refused to have Ford do any more work since I had already been charged almost $1500 for repairs and the problem was not fixed. They said the next thing would be the balance shaft or rebuild the engine. The truck runs fine, smooth and does not shake at idle. It just has this awful noise.

I have a rattle coming from the drivers front area. I'm not 100% sure but I think it might go away in warm weather. I had a tech drive along with me once a few weeks ago, but we couldn't hear it that afternoon. Yesterday afternoon it warmed up to around 65ish and I couldn't hear it. I only hear it at slow speeds (5-10mph) and only when rolling over light bumps, anything moderate to heavy and it's not discernible.
This is my first try at recording it and I think it sounds a bit less squeaky more rattley in person. Maybe more like a lost screwdriver in the a body panel or engine bay or something Or a loose strut? Or a loose rotor? (doesn't seem possible) Or the short shifter bouncing? (I have a forge SS, and once I was poking around looking for something loose in the engine bay and I jiggled that and the sound seemed close, but I don't see how that would be it.

I plan to take the timing cover off tomorrow, but I wanted to post this video. You can hear the rattle immediately in the beginning of the video below and then intermittently after that. Also, is that whistling noise you hear while the engine's running normally?
View 7 RepliesI have a 2001 F-150 Supercab with the V-6. This past weekend it developed some strange noise best described as a rattle or vibration that sounds like it is coming from under the driver's side dash possibly somewhere right behind the instrument cluster. May even sounds a little like a "grinding" noise - like two plastic gears not agreeing with each other, but I don't know of anything under there that could make that noise. I have opened the hood and listened from there with my wife pressing the gas to make the noise start, but can't hear anything from outside the truck.
It is not constant, but starts as soon as I give it a little gas, even before I put it in drive. It's a little worse when it is in drive. I have turned the air on and off, turned the steering wheel, pressed the brake, etc, and it doesn't appear to be related to anything obvious. I have stuck my hand under the dash and can't find anything obviously loose.
