The other day, I was driving along doing about 40. It was a nasty hit and my alignment is now shot to where i have to keep the wheel turned left a couple inches to track straight. Local dealer says 170 for AWD alignment. I haven't even checked the tire for bubbles!
View 24 Replies07 That has 138K miles. The noise starts around 10 minutes of driving. Th engine sounds like a diesel engine. The noise has lasted 5 to 10 minutes. Then shut it off and it won't return til the next morning...Same thing. THIS DOES NOT SEEM TO OCCUR on start-up. It has to run for about 10 minutes (moving) or so. Changed out the water pump. The noise is coming from near or behind the water pump.
My mechanic is stumped but he pretty much thinks it's coming from behind the water pump. That leads me to believe it's the timing chains/tensioner's etc. But the time it starts up is throwing me off. When it is cold I think I can hear a little clacking that shuts off quickly after oil pressure gets going but it's not really the same sound that were are hearing when moving and the crazy sound starts and it is LOUD!
We were thinking it was the timing belt tensioner however, it is not behaving like it should.
My car will start the first time just fine but if I turn it off it won't start anymore it won't even attempt to crank ...
It does have a nasty grind noise before it starts tho idk if that could be related to it or not ...
I have done the flapper mod. My exhaust has a nasty rasp on acceleration. I have a buddy with a MkIV R32 and his car sounds MUCH better than mine with no rasp.
View 6 RepliesI'm a new Mk4 R32 owner in the Portland area and my driver's front suspension developed a nasty squeak on the long drive home after buying the car. When you hit a pothole or any sort of bump it makes a nasty "clink" sound under compression/rebound. It's only on the driver's side front, and it seems to be a bushing/bearing or upper mount in the car when I got it up on Matrix Integrated's lift.
Also - the driver's front spring is squeaking since the powder coating flaked off after all the miles.
Thinking of buying a cheap set of coil overs to remedy this and refresh some of the more worn suspension items. Car drives just fine too.
I originally own an mk4 r32 but my friend owns a 20th.. He recently lowered his car about an inch or 1.5 of an inch he might have a finger gap.. He is on jam coilovers all the way down in the rear and about 20 threads left up front.. There is a nasty sound coming from the front driver side when he is turning or going straight.. he still didn't do an alignment idk if that matters.. and he also miscounted the threads so his driver side is about two threads higher but he fixed that now.. he also doesn't have camber plates up front does this matter? he has 8mm spacers up front so he cant be hitting the coil.. also he never replaced his front strut mounts/bearings ...
View 1 RepliesI started noticing about a year ago that when I drive my car, it pull to the right. This occurs at any speed. Every time I've gone in for service, I've asked them about this and multiple customer service reps have basically said "that's how this type of car drives". I've had them actually check the alignment as well, and only a couple of times have they had to adjust it, but it still seems to pull towards the right.

I have a 2009 Santa Fe Limited (2 wheel drive) that pulls to the left a little while driving.
Before taking it in for an alignment, need to know whether or not both the front toe and the camber are adjustable on this vehicle?
04 Camry XLE, 63k miles. Since we bought this car, it has pulled to the left. I've taken it to two shops I trust and they showed me the report showing that the alignment is correct. This leads me to believe there is a worn joint somewhere that allows the front wheels to aim a bit left when driving. Where would be a good place to start troubleshooting?
Background: So far, I've called Toyota to verify that our car is up to speed on all TSB's and it is.
I've put my hand over the intermediate steering shaft upper joint while my wife moves the wheel side to side. There is some play there, but not much. I'm not sure how much there should be.
I have just bought a 58 plate (late 2008) Prius T-Spirit, 32k miles . These are a couple of issues I am having (car was bought 7 days ago, issues appeared after a couple hours of driving home from dealer)
Engine Warning Light on. Diagnosis says P0138 and P2195 relating to fuel mixture and 02 sensor. If codes are cleared, they reappear when accelerating quickly uphill etc
Wheel alignment issues. I have to have the wheel around 15 degrees to the left when driving to go in a straight line, getting worse at higher speeds.
Squeak/ Squeal when driving. This happens very intermittently below 35mph. Sometimes when braking, but mostly through normal driving.
installed my borla exhaust yesterday and no matter how many different way i tried twisting and pulling i couldn't get the tip alined... when i went for a drive it shifted to the passenger side... any other way then adding washers to the driver side hanger to lower the left tip.

I hate to say that my alignment needs adjusting already, The car only has 2000 miles on it and I'm thinking of taking it over the dealership and trying to get it covered under warranty (along with the door noise). Think I'll have any luck? (for the record, I have never hit any potholes, curbs, etc)
View 24 Replies2nd time for alignment in two weeks. My numbers were WAY different than when I left. Rear toe is out, it was out when I left the first time, but it's out in the opposite direction now. Are those four bolts stretch bolts? Maybe my bushings are shot which are causing the varied numbers??

So I installed coilovers a short while ago and now I need an alignment bad (obviously), but when I took it to get aligned, I was told my car is too low to drive up onto the lift , so I was wondering if I would be able to adjust my coils to a better height and then after the alignment just drop them back down a bit, it won't be too major of a drop back down but I just want to make sure I wouldn't be wasting my money. There is a place up the road that will do the alignment at my current height but for a pretty steep price considering how low my car is.

View 5 RepliesI just noticed on my front passenger door, when I pull the handle, the top of the door is rubbing against the rubber. It seems to be shifted a little down, especially on the top left corner of the door. What's going on with it. Doesn't open as smooth as the door once did.

Anyway, I replaced my upper control arms when I replaced the suspension in '06 w/some ECS units. Since then I've run through some rear tires more quickly than than up front. It's been tolerable bc I don't drive it as much.
The last alignment, the tech said he got it close to spec, but not quite. The inside part of the rear tires is where the problem is.
If I replace the stock lower control arms solve the problem of the getting the rear alignment closer to spec? Thoughst?
I hit a big pothole and now the driver's side headlight is pointing towards the middle of the car. The lens is still in place. What happened? tell me it's something simple and I don't have to replace the headlight.
View 6 RepliesMy mkiv gti leans a lot to the right whenever I let off the steering wheel. I brought it to a shop and they put it up on a lift and told me that I needed a tie rod flip kit because it's lowered. Long story short, they charged me $70 to look at it for 10 minutes. Do you really need a flip kit for a car lowered on coilovers? I have several friends with lowered cars and none off them have had to do this. I'm thinking it's something else such as a bad shock but I'm no expert.
