So my car started to make this noise, hear it more at highway speeds than anything else. It's like a high pitched whine or whistle. When I'm on the accelerator it goes away, soon as I take my foot off the gas it starts up. Just cruising and engage clutch goes away as well. Sounds like coming from rear but hard to tell, hear it at low speeds but not as loud.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2005 Honda Odyssey with over 100k miles. Recently, it has started making a loud whining noise (it reminds me of the sound my old manual transmission sedan would make when I was in second gear but needed to switch into third) when we drive at highway speeds (55 mph or more) for more than 20 minutes or so. The sound continues at lower speed and even when we go into park. It doesn't stop until we turn off the engine, but the next time we drive the sound doesn't start until we've been driving at high speeds for a while. It also intensifies when we make sharp turns. I took it to my mechanic who thought it was simply the fan coming on because our coolant was low, but we refilled that and it hasn't made a difference. Also the temp gauge doesn't show that or car is overheating.

The noise has increased in pitch and volume, and is not dependent on engine speed--in fact, if I turn the engine off and coast, the whine persists, lowering in pitch (and getting quieter) when the car slows down. Recently the car has also started vibrating when I turn slightly to the right, as when I change lanes on the highway or bank right on a long turn (sharp right turns from a full stop don't elicit any noise). Do I have a problem with my alignment? I notice my tire wear looks a bit uneven.

View 24 RepliesI have a 2009 F-150 with 5.4L 4x4. Recently I've been hearing a whining noise when I'm driving at low speeds. I don't hear it at startup and if the truck is idling in the driveway the sound goes away after a while. Only while accelerating and turning. I can't tell if it gets worse while turning or not. At first I thought it was an idler pulley, but since it doesn't happen when idling, I am leaning on power steering pump.
View 6 RepliesGot my tires swapped out and noticed a whining sound coming from the rear of the car when I release throttle >40mph. Applying throttle it goes away. Soundalike it's coming from the driveline. Does the Haldex make a whining. It's loader than I would expect. Believe the roar of my winter tires covered it up.
View 1 RepliesApril 2015 I purchased a 2013 CPO LS 460 with 7,700 miles. Immediately, I noticed the wind noise from all 4 doors. Dealer said nothing can be done.
Then we started hearing a whining noise from the transmission at low speeds. Dealer checked it out and determined it's the Transmission Pump and there is no fix for it. Filed a complaint with Lexus and was told they are aware of the problem but since it does not pose a safety or mechanical concern, they do not have a replacement part in the works.
Driving on the highway the other day and I was doing about 80 and I noticed that the front end started to vibrate pretty loud so I slowed down to around 70 and it stopped. I got home and called up the local tire shop had all my wheels re balanced as I heard that could be the cause they were near perfect. Tires have about 3,000 miles on them. so yesterday I took it out to see if it would do it again and I noticed when it starts to vibrate at about 80 and I push in the clutch it stops immediately. Could my clutch be going out? or possibly like the throw out bearing.

I have been driving back and forth between Dallas and Kansas for work and I've notice an "odd" noise at highway speeds. When I have the cruise control set for the upper 70's and the car is in 6th, I can hear, for lack of a better word, a hum from the rear of the car. If I switch the Tiptronic down to 5th the hum goes away. As soon as I shift back to 6th, it returns.
I recently switched from stock rotors to a pair of SP slotted rotors. The pads are stock. I thoroughly followed the bedding process and had no problems until now. For the past 2 weeks I noticed brake shudder when stopping from highway speeds. My first reaction was that it was a warped rotor. Since it was a fairly new pair.

View 13 RepliesI have been feeling a vibration in my right rear at highway speeds (70+mph) At first i thought that maybe it was a wheel bearing but that would constantly be vibration and it wouldn't be off and on like it is. The car is on coils and a friend mentioned to check and make sure my right height is the same all around. I checked just by comparing the fender well gaps and it does seem as if the right rear is a bit lower. If this is the case, can ur car being a little lower on one side cause this vibration? if so, how?

Similar sound at lower volume when the shock/spring is depressed (pushing down on that corner of the car). Louder at low speeds.
View 6 RepliesI've been doing a lot of decently long highway trips this summer (5 hrs @ 75-80 MPH) and I've noticed that the 2008 VR6 Passat has some kind of pressure/wind noise/vibration above 75 MPH. It's hard to describe; it's like the noise you get when you open your sunroof too far and you get a harmonic noise from it. The sound seems to be coming from the upper rear of the car; behind the sunroof and almost from the rear glass.
All of the windows are up, the sunroof is closed and even the shade is closed to muffle the noise, yet it is there. However sometimes it isn't bad. If I have the radio on I don't notice it really, but when it is off it is very noticeable on certain stretches of highway. I'm having a hard time nailing it down as it is not entirely reproduceable. I don't know if it has to do with temperature, angle of the wind, climate control fan settings, what.
I did notice a few reviewers of the new CC complaining of a similar thing, which freaks me out that it is a design flaw - yet searching on here brings me up empty so I think it might be something I can fix. My first thought is that I have a tire slightly out of balance, yet the noise seems more wind related than tires.
I have a 04 v6 model , in the last couple of months when I am on the interstate at about 75-80 mph. I get a very loud vibrating noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The dealer thinks the drive shaft has some play in it.
View 6 RepliesI've got a 2002 Toyota Camry with 96,000 miles on it. Car has been running fine for years but on a recent 250-mile drive I noticed a whirring noise (almost like the engine of a remote-control electric car). The noise is faint, but definitely new. I'm fairly sure it's coming from the under the hood, or at least from the front half of the car. No vibrations. The noise is only audible at highway speeds, and really only present when I'm accelerating (or on cruise control). It seems to get slightly worse if the car is climbing a hill.
Some things that have been worrying me:*I left the car in a friend's driveway all summer. Could that have anything to do with it? (There were no noticeable problems when I got back, which was months ago--when I came back after two months, I simply re-connected the battery and the car started on the first try).*I had a transmission fluid change about 2K miles ago. It was at a Jiffy Lube. They "flushed" the old fluid. They claimed they used the correct Toyota brand fluid. (I've since read that flushing the old fluid can be a bad idea for older cars.) Could this have something to do with it?*I just had my snow tires put on two weeks ago (and this is the first long drive I've done with the snow tires on). The guy who changed my tires took about 2.5 hours to do the job, saying "this is only his second week." The car is steering fine, and not drifting or anything, but could that mechanic have done something to the tires that is causing this highway-speed, acceleration-only whirring noise?
I have a 2010 Santa Fe AWD, I notice that when I apply the brakes at 100 KM or higher I hear a 'thumping' noise, the noise is hard to describe, thumping is the best I could come up with, the noise goes away once the vehicle is down to 80 KM, why this is?
View 7 RepliesI have a 2001 w/94k. New tires and alignment (3k). Recently I have been hearing a humming noise which can start to be heard around 45mph which gets increasingly loud up to 65mph, and then seems to quiet down if I go above 70mph. From the driver's seat it sounds like it's coming from the driver's side rear of the car and from the passenger seat it sounds like it's coming from the passenger side rear of the car. So it definitely sounds like it's coming from the rear of the car. Bringing my car in to get looked at it is difficult with my work schedule, so I thought I would try here first. Around the city there is no noticeable sound and there has been no loss in MPG that I can tell (44-47).
View 8 RepliesI have a 2003 Nissan xterra se with 93,0000 mi. When i reach speeds greater than 60 mph it makes this rapid somewhat clicking noise. the dealer suggest to replace the belts. Of course that did not resolved the issue. then they claimed it was coming from the exhaust so they tinkered with it. it was gone for awhile but now it has return.
View 2 RepliesThe last couple of days I've noticed a strange sound that come on under boost accelerating at highway speeds. It's a harsh ssshhhh sound that rises in frequency with engine RPM, sort of between a wood lathe and a bench grinder. happens under mid to WOT. It almost seems like I am loosing a little HP as well but I can't confirm that. It's loud enough to hear it in the cabin and with the windows down I can definitely hear it. It's not really fluttering, that I'm used to being on my 3rd tuned 2.0T
