My R is stock. When I accelerate hard and shift, I can hear like a whine noise when I press the clutch to shift.
Its like something continue to spin fast when I press the clutch at high rpm.
I just brought my gti in for the 20K oil change etc... I have noticed something weird... when I accelerate hard or have been driving for a while, and then shift into neutral or push in the clutch, the engine revs up to almost 2K, then back down to 1K once or twice, then finally settles to 700rpm's. It doesn't do it cold, or when I have the AC running.
I have no CEL's, and the dealer just said they ran a fault check, and it was clear. I do have an APR exhaust and a K&N intake (I think stage1 tune)... I asked about the PCV valve, and they said that would throw a code... They said they could do additional diagnostics out of warranty, since they think it has to be part of my aftermarket stuff.
I don't know if it's related, but if I really jump on it, in 5th gear or so, I can hear the car losing a little rpm's then around 4K just for a second, then it's goes back to normal... This only happened once or twice, so maybe it was just in my head...
I have a 2003 Ford Ranger, 5 speed, with 180k miles. Sometimes, not all the time, when I press the clutch and shift gears, the engine will rev.I dont drive the truck a whole lot, its a 2nd vehicle.
View 1 RepliesI bought this truck for work and all of a sudden it will rev real high when I press the clutch in to switch gears or when sitting at a light. I stopped at a parking lot and popped the hood and tried to pull the throttle back by hand but it will not go. There is a lil slack in the throttle cable but when the truck is off and I manually pull the throttle back it returns normally.
I was wondering if the little black electronic box opposite where the throttle hooks to the throttle body is making it rev so high? I really don't know a lot about these newer trucks as I have driving older trucks my whole life so probably using wrong terms...
Just replaced my OEM clutch and flywheel with SPEC ones and now I have a weird clicking noise during idle from it. Noise goes away when I press in clutch. My technician says that they are known for this noise. Is that true?
View 6 RepliesI noticed when I first start of my 2006 Azera at night or even during the day and make the first turn of of my driveway or out of the parking lot at work there is a high pitched whining sound. Sounds like it maybe coming from under the car maybe from the back. I thought at first it maybe a belt (power steering) under the hood but it sounds like it coming from the back side of the car. It only does it one time mostly when its cold outside. What can it be?

View 4 Replies,My wife drives a 96 Civic DX Hatchback, 5 Speed. It has about 160,000 miles on it, and she only drives it to work and back (a 15 minute drive via the interstate).
Just yesterday, she told me that the clutch feels 'looser' than normal, for lack of a better term. When it's first started, it's hard for her to get it into first and/or reverse, but once driving, she says the shifting is fine. When she's driving at highway speeds in 5th for a while, then has to get off at her exit, she said it's hard for her to get it back into 1st gear. She says she feels like she has to push the clutch harder than normal to get it back into 1st gear.
I don't know much about manual transmissions, and am hoping for some insight into what the problem(s) may be?
Had my first drive with the windows down for a long time and noticed a new medium to high pitched whine, stays relative to engine speed. Not the turbo, its much louder than that, i searched about the water pump issues and no one seemed to mention any associated noise, just coolant on the driveway. Waterpump? Alternator?
View 5 RepliesI recently noticed that my Golf R was making a strange high pitched whine and it seemed like there was no boost. I took my car to the dealer, and it turns out that part of the CAI broke off (a mounting component) and made its way into the turbo, effectively destroying it.
My dealer was initially intending to cover the turbo under warranty (prior to investigation), but now that it is clear that a failure in the CAI caused the issue, they cannot (obviously) cover it under VW warranty. Unitronic CAI failure led to turbo failure.
The serviced manager did some research prior to getting back with me, and was somewhat puzzled since the Unitronic CAI displayed on their website looked slightly different from mine in that the component that failed was not there. The service manager called Unitronic and learned that the failed component was a known issue (it had apparently failed before), and thus they modified the design - hence the picture of the revised version did not match the older version that was installed on my Golf R. The Unitronic rep offered to replace the CAI - but did not mention anything about the failed turbo (when he spoke to the service manager).

I had a rebuilt alternator installed on Thursday and for the past two days when I start up the car there is a high pitch whine coming from what I believe is the alternator. Do some rebuilt alternators make noise when charging the batter after start-up? The alternator has a 3-year warranty and I'm going back to the shop tomorrow.

I'm not normally concerned by the noise itself as it sounds entirely intentional like something is intended to run for a few seconds, but this morning the whine was punctuated with a few random scratchy/scraping sounds. Ruh roh?! Do I need to be worried about something about to fail?

Say if I am in second gear and i kinda press the pedal a little harder then i usually do, i hear a weird noise. kinda sounding like a fake exhaust sound or some sort of vibration near where the e brake is. when i let go of the pedal the noise goes away. I know my description is terrible but its honestly a strange noise.
View 5 RepliesI notice whenever I'm on the highway traveling between 60-70mph and at part throttle, I hear a hum that I would best describe as a gear whine which sounds to be coming from the rear. I'm taking it to the dealer next week to be checked.
View 13 RepliesToday, driving the car around town it was suddenly really hard to shift in/out of first when the car was stopped. Driving, no problem at all. Then within the ~15-minute drive, it got progressively worse.
Got the car home, checked and noticed that my HPA short shifter was wearing out (the splines), so I threw on the stock piece and figured everything would be ok... not the case. Here's what's going on:
- When the car is off, I can shift through all gears easily (and into the proper gears as far as I can see.. which tells me that shifter alignment should also be fine)
- When the car is off, and (for example) I have the car in 1st - I can let off the ebrake and the car doesn't roll (it's in gear), when I press the clutch, it will roll
- When the car is RUNNING, I can't shift in/out of any gears at all. This morning it was just really tough, and it was actually easier if I didn't have the clutch pedal all the way to the floor.. but now I can't at all if the car is running
- No signs of anything leaking under the car
- The car is APR Stg 3 and I have about 50k miles on a stage 2 clutch. Prior to this, I didn't notice any slipping, weird noises when shifting, etc.
Sound like either master/slave clutch cylinder? Or more like a clutch issue itself?
So i was driving and I went to shift and my clutch never came back up. Long story short after searching the forums i think it might be my slave cylinder and throwout bearing. There was a puddle of fluid under the car.

So, For the past week or so, I've been noticing that my clutch has been getting harder and harder to depress when I go to shift. I only have 1500 miles on the car and picked it up 3 weeks ago. When I took delivery, the cars clutch was silky smooth.
This "tightness" is almost as bad as my 6MT clutch on my old subaru (which needed to be replaced because the spring on the pressure plate tightened). What could be making the clutch feel so heavy? I'm not too familiar with the VW clutch. Is it hydraulically actuated? If so, maybe the fluid is low or leaking?
2008 r32. First time i opened it up on the highway, noticed a weird electronic whine under the back seat as soon as we slowed down that wont go away. It changes pitch when you shift and sounds like a weird electronic sys trying to mimic an exhaust leak. Id think fuel pump, but seems louder on the left side (fuel flap on right). Since i talked her into it and i apparently caused this noise, shes gonna kick my ass if I don't fix it. Its somewhat warrantied, so toss out whatever, I am not scared to go to the dealer with 500 things i want them to look at, but i need to know if their diagnosis is correct or total crap. Ive never dealt w 4motion (its incredible) and my newest dub is also a vr6, but its a 92.
View 5 RepliesTook delivery of my 2015 GTI a few weeks ago. Overall the car is great, but I have a feeling the tires that came with it just plain suck. They are Pirelli P7 Cinturato A/S. According to Tire Rack, these are grand touring tires?! Not exactly what I'd expect to be put on a GTI. Anyway, I've noticed that at almost exactly between 60mph-70mph there is a "whine" sound coming from them, also just the slightest vibration in the steering wheel. At every other speed they are relatively quiet and the wheel is absolutely dead solid, no vibration. Could these tires just be of relatively poor quality? Should I have them put on a balancing machine to see if everything checks out? I'm assuming these were balanced on a Road Force machine at the factory since that is the OEM for VW/Audi, but I'm not 100% sure obviously.
View 16 RepliesSo I recently got APR stage 1 low output (93 octane v1.2) installed and loving it so far on my '15 GTI. I went with the low output tune after hearing many clutch slipping issues and since this is my daily driver and i need reliability, didn't want to risk it too much. BUT... I am starting to wonder about the regular output. Going low to high, worth it? Seems like a 20-29 hp difference would be a lot. Have the stage 1 regular tune and no clutch slipping issues?
