I have bought a r32 that had block replaced bought it with a ticking sound when warm. the chains were replaced i have done the timing myself the hydraulic tappets were replaced too the sound is only in it when warm you have to drive it as when its ticking over it wont be warm enough.

During cold start engine warm up I hear a nice little tick-tick-tick which sounds to me like an exhaust leak. Is this a common problem? I have just over 58,000 miles would this be covered under powertrain or do they have some nice exclusions for exhaust?

Below is a detailed description. Friday, March 25. I went into the car to preset some radio stations. I did not start the engine at all. The key was at position One for a moment and then left at position Zero. There was ticking sound (about once per second) from the right side of the car. Sitting on the front passenger seat, I felt that the ticks were from right or right rear.
The ticking continued until I left the car after several minutes.
Sunday, March 27. After cold start, there was no ticking sound during the 20 minutes drive. After that, I left the car parked for about 20 minutes. Thereafter, I started the car again. I heard ticking sound (sometimes once per second, sometimes continuous t-t-t-t-t sound, sometimes even on very smooth road) from the right or the right rear for about 50 minutes. After that, there was no ticking while I drove.
Monday, March 29. After cold start at 9AM: a lot of ticking from the right, and also cracking sound from the right front. They continued for a few minutes. After cold start at 9 PM: no ticking or cracking.
There's a ticking that sounds like its coming from behind the radio or behind the glove box.
View 10 RepliesI hate trolling for a diagnosis, but my trip to the dealer left me frustrated. 2011 GTI with 33k miles and APR stage 1 flash. Just within the last 2 weeks my car has developed a faint ticking sound during light acceleration. The sound stops when I left off the gas and is not present at idle. If I accelerate normally the exhaust note and turbo drown out the noise. How faint the noise is, if the roads are wet the road noise will drown the clicking/ticking noise out above 20mph. The dealer stated they could not duplicate ( raining today) and that it is due to improper install of the waste gate actuator rod clip.
The sound associated with the actuator was only present when accelerating moderately to heavy and sounded like rocks in a can. Not sure if an improper install of the clip could occur as it is pretty straight forward. I did the install over a year ago and never heard what I am hearing now.
My friend bought a 2014 Wolfsburg GTI 3 weeks ago.
One week after purchase he noticed a ticking sound from the engine, and went to Stevens Creek VW and asked them if the sound was "normal". The technicians said the noise didn't sound normal, and they'd check it out.
1.5 weeks later, technicians at Stevens Creek VW said it was a faulty lifter. After a full top end tear down and replacing the "faulty lifter", the sound continued, and the technicians opened another ticket with VWoA. After a VWoA technician came down to look at the car, they deemed the sound was "within spec" and said the car was ready to pick up.

Apparently the PO could hear a faint ticking initially while the car was warming up then go away after a minute, but then it went away. Out of nowhere I heard a very prominent ticking from the belt/supercharger area that doesn't go away once the car is warm. My first thought is a bit of the belt might have started peeling off and is hitting something due to the frequency of the tick, but the belt looks ok from the top of the engine bay. Tomorrow I'm going to start taking bits off to gain access to the water pump/pulley to make sure the water pump pulley hasn't started falling apart.

1.8t AWP, driving in any gear, and when i let go of the gas, you hear a ticking sound, as if you're riding a mountain bike and you stop pedaling. That kinda ticking. Is this normal? Have never heard it before.

I just got my MKVI late January, and it currently has 3k miles on it. 2DR CSG.
Almost everyday in the mornings when I drive my car to work, there is this high pitch ticking/clacking sound coming from the passenger side vent/dash/A Pillar area.
It only happens over dumps on uneven surfaces or when I launch from a stop/red light. Keep in mind I have a manual. Its a rapid ticking/clacking sound that goes with the uneven surface or any sort of vibration on the road.
It usually goes away maybe after 20 mins of driving (I'm thinking it has to do with the temperature warming up). Or if its sunny out, it just magically goes away.
I've brought it to the dealer at least 3 times with no cure, because it takes me at least 20 minutes to get there. The tech would literally have to come to my house in the morning and listen while i start the car up and drive to "duplicate" the sound.
I originally thought it was static coming out of the right speaker due to bad wiring. Had the right speaker replaced already, sound is still there.
So I just brought my 2015 golf TDI in for its 20,000 standard service and then starting about 2 days later, every time I start the engine there is this rapid (and loud) ticking sound which goes on for 20 seconds or so before stopping. It almost sounds like it is coming from the passenger side speaker or under the passenger side dash. It sounds electronic in nature rather than mechanical but I'm not really sure.

I popped the hood and the engine was shaking violently, it drove fine one day to walmart and the next day started doing this. I am thinking it could be the coil pack because it was raining when I went to start it.

1. At Idle Ill have a ticking sound that speeds up and slows down on its own. It seems to be coming form the pulleys side of the engine and it doesn't matter whether the car is warmed up or cold. My engine temps have been pretty steady even with 100+ degree weather and traffic and visually cant see any issues i.e., leaks, cracked lines etc.
2. In first gear Ill get a rotating squealing sound when i let off the gas. The RPM's don't really matter and its definitely is more noticeable before the engine is warming up but it'll still do it at fully warmed up every once in a while. Oh yeah and it ONLY makes this sound in 1st.
As far as I know the pulleys and the majority of the car is stock.
Recently bought a 2015 Golf Tsi. i have done around 4000 miles. there has been a ticking and a "coin rubbing together" sound when accelerating until about 2200 revs. dealer could not find the solution... the car has been very jolty, and at very low idle speeds, very rough and stuttery. View 3 RepliesRecently my GTI has been ticking, but it is only between 1 and 2 thousand rpm. After 2k it runs fine and doesn't make the sound. Local tuner suggested an oil pressure problem (not using the proper oil) but I am using the proper oil. It has been like this for over a month now and nothing has come of it. It is coming from the belt side of the motor and sounds like plastic ticking. Could it be a belt?
View 7 RepliesI'll be sitting at a stop light and I'll start hearing this ticking sound which seems to come from the rear of the driver door, or perhaps the B pillar. Opening and shutting the door will make it go away for a short time, but it returns by the time I get to the next light.
It's very steady, about one tick per second. At highway speeds it's either non-existent or too faint to hear. I have a 2-door.
I own a 2001 Jetta 1.8t with Gti front end. So I was driving downtown the other day and I bottomed out really hard and cracked my oil pan. I didn't realize it was cracked and leaking so I drove it home, drove fine with no issues at all. When I got home I parked it and went inside and in the morning I came out and tuned it on for maybe ten seconds. It made a really loud ticking sound that was constant and oil pressure was almost all the way down. So I shut it off and looked and saw the oil pan. I fixed the oil pan yesterday and started it up and it sounded really good and drives fine. But I've been hearing a pretty decently loud ticking sound when everything's up to temp and warmed up. The ticking is only at an idle and it drives like it use to just sounds bad at an idle. Some people think it's my oil pump and tensioner, some people thing I ruined the turbo and possibly internals.
View 4 RepliesI have a ticking noise that seems to be coming from the drivers side of the engine. 2000 Excursion. It only happens when accelerating in every gear between 1400-2100. No noise at idle or park. Same noise when cold or warm, again only when accelerating. Goes away when you take your foot off gas. New exhaust studs, exhaust does not seem to be leaking, no carbon build up anywhere. No engine codes. Truck runs great and no loss of power. V10 with 120 k on it. Really annoying.
View 14 RepliesI have 02 Limited 4.6 with 128k and upon startup there's no noise (sometimes misfire, due to oil in plug wells, gonna change the intake mani and coils soon). Shortly after it warms up - 5 minutes or so there is a constant ticking at idle...I can't really tell if its there upon acceleration as I can't notice it with the window open when I'm driving, but as soon as I slow down and/or idle I hear it again.
If I let the car sit for a few hours, or while I'm at work, it starts up perfectly fine, no noise.
I tried the long screw driver trick - putting it to different parts of the engine and placing my ear over the handle, and didn't really notice anything different from any part of the engine. I had it up on my lift, and it almost sounded like it was coming from the rear - near the tranny, but what the hell would tick back there? and how do I diagnose that?
I dropped the oil pan when I first got it and there was a very little amount of black rubbery stuff - presuming its timing chain guide/tensioner related, but no chunks, not really any metallic shimmer in the oil, so I guess it could be that, I'm gonna pop the valve cover off and inspect - but like I said, didn't notice anything with the screwdriver trick....I'm at a loss
I just punches a 2010 Camry 4 cylinder with 44,646 miles. Very clean. I've owned 2 camrys in the past a 97 and 2002 that both reached well over 200,00 miles without a hint of trouble. Well, when I start the 2010 when its cold like from overnight it sounds like the lifter are ticking?, it lasts until the engine is warm and then I don't hear it. It still has the 2 month 3000 mile warranty from the dealer. I just don't seem to remember our other Toyota sounding that way.
