Golf IV R32 :: Strange Gurgling Noise From Gas Tank Area?
Nov 24, 2006
When I parked my car in the garage this evening, I noticed a definite "gurgling" noise and my first thought was that it was most likely coming from the coolant reservoir (even though it was cool outside and I wasn't driving hard at all before parking it). However, when I checked under the hood, it was obvious that the sound was not coming from that location (and the coolant looked OK/normal).
I followed the sound to the back of the car and it definitely seemed to be coming from the right (passenger) side rear area of the car (possibly the gas tank). I removed the gas cap but there was no pressure built up and the noise continued -- I also checked under the car and nothing was leaking anywhere and there was no odor of gasoline.
So, when I searched the R32 FAQ, the only thing that sounded close was that possibly is was the leak detection pump cycling; but the FAQ made no mention of a gurgling noise and there was none of the clicking (or any other sound along with this gurgling) that seems typical of the leak detection system.
There is the possibility that the car could have made this sound in the past but it was pretty obvious to me this time so I think I would have noticed it if it had occurred previously. One other note, I did fill the gas tank during the drive right before I parked it and heard this noise, but I drove probably 12 miles (including twice turning off the motor) between the gas fill-up and parking it in my garage.

1999 Oldsmobile Alero V6 3.4L. Car checked out for a strange noise in my front left tire area, and I don't remember all the technical things they said (I'm definitely not a car guy), but I do remember them saying that my front subframe had rusted out and that I need to get another one ASAP, and that it's dangerous to drive my car at the moment. They said they could get another one for me.
So I've checked around on the Internet, and I found this site: [URL] ....
Is this the right part that I need? Also, is there a list of vehicles that have parts that are compatible with my vehicle? I think certain years of the Pontiac Grand Am and Chevy Malibu are also compatible, so could I possibly search for a Front Subframe from these types of cars as well?

I've got a 2016 250 6.2l and am getting a popping sound coming from the transmission area. the following is what i have figured out so far. the noise is made just before a complete stop, just as the tranny down shifts to 1st and can be felt through the manual floor shifter 100% of the time and heard roughly 90% of the time. sound ranges from not audible to loud and is random in how loud it is. the only way it does not do this is if i come to a stop in neutral or i go slow enough as not to have the tranny shift out of first from my last stop. the only other way is if i do one of those long, slow rolling stops. truck only has 6600 miles on it. i will be taking it in at 7500 for first service and have them look at it ...

My wifes santa fe 2.0t has been a pain.
When turning the car off a popping noise comes from under the gas tank area. The dealer heard in months ago and said its normal. It's still doing it. What could this be?
I also find that her emissions seems to smell very strong when the car is idling in the lane way and the door is open even when the car is warmed up.
I find her rear suspension really rough as well. When she takes bumps in the road the rear suspension hits them hard causing the car to bang when she hits them.
Her gas mileage is 13.4 regardless of driving lightly in the city.
Maybe im just anal but Is any of this normal?

I think I heard this noise before but I didn't pay much attention until a few days ago. I thought the garage door makes that noise when I close the door.
When the engine is off, whenever the last door is closed, the popping noise occurs. The noise gets louder if I close the door harder.
When the engine is on, it's the opposite. The first door opened causes the popping noise.
It's a 07GS350AWD.

I go to get fuel tonight as my wife gets home with "that" look on her face. Car is at a quarter tank. Go to pump put in the nozzle and start pumping. The nozzle stops and I can hear gurgling from the tank. Here is a pic of how much goes in. So I now pull the fuel nozzle out a tad and proceed to keep putting gas in slowly. Here is a shot.
After I do this the car takes more fuel and I continue until I can see the small bubbles. Understand that fuel is not leaking anywhere. Its not coming out of the sides or anything. I am also not filling it up to the point in overflows out. Here is a pic of the total fuel when I am done.
Is this normal? I have to do this every time. I noticed on a 987-S Boxster I had the tank did not vent properly cause the same thing would happen. Trick I would do is rotate the fuel nozzle 180 degrees up and it would fill up completely. I tried doing this on the Lexus and it didn't work.

I have a 2003 Impala with about 124,000 miles on it. A few weeks back I started to hear what can best be described as a "water gurgling" sound coming from my dashboard area or where the vents are. It happens especially when make a tight turn or something, it only last a couple of seconds and doesn't happen all the time. What am I hearing and what was the cause of this and is there any fixes for it?

Truck has recently developed a weird overheat issue. Ill try to give a s much background as possible:
I changed the heater core in the winter and that definitely cured the lack of interior heat issue the truck had since I got it. Blows hard and hot now. (I suspect I should also swap out the rear one too)
On occasional since then I have noticed the odd time a "gurgling sound" in the heater core area. Its not all the time but here and there.
Within the last 3 weeks or so I have gotten a check engine light. I've been a bit too busy to address it, and don't tend to drive very far (work and back) but have downloaded the comp and have a P0174 and P1299. Now just in the last 5 days I have noticed the temp gauge , which is normally firmly parked at about 1/3 in the zone has moved up to nearly the hot area. I can easily bring it back down by using full heat. I have cleared the codes and they haven't returned yet, but I'm suspicious of them non the less.
What can cause lean on only one bank? I have looked at the usual suspects and don't see any obvious leaks. Is it very common to have a intake gasket leak? what's the easiest way to check for that?
My rad appears in good shape although the AC condenser is pretty beat up. I'm definitely going to flush out the coolant, it looks good and used.

Didn't think anything of it but i have noticed a few times this week when i start the truck after it's to temp, shut down for an hour, the restart I hear coolant gurgling in the dash area? Was very noticeable this evening. Still no overheating and heat blows nice and hot. Still getting the blows warm to a certain temp, then cold to a certain temp, then hot once to temp then will stay hot until fully cold soaked. Think my tstat is not acting right?

Gurgling/percolating sounds, car started making a few weeks ago. The sound is coming from deep inside our front dash area. We do plan on bringing it to our local VW dealers attention at next scheduled oil change. I started getting this noise as well about a month ago. My passengers commented about sounding like someone sawing inside the dashboard. I do like the percolating description better...
This is different than the other "running water" sound that you get when initially turning the car on. I was told that was normal.... This percolating sound happens while driving and I noticed that it does have the pattern of happening when at slow speeds or stopped in traffic (after driving fast for a while).

Hyundai Elantra 01 GLS. The main problem is that the airbag light is on and stays on no matter what. This is my girlfriends old car and she tells me that a couple people told her it had something to do with a faulty/corroded connection or something like that... I have been working on this car for about a year and I am finally to the point where I am just ironing out the little kinks. The old engine was bad along with a lot of other stuff, and I swapped it out for a good motor with less miles on it.
I also have recently replaced the alternator and instrument cluster just to name a couple repairs. Now the two things that I want to get settled are the airbag light and the check engine light. The check engine light comes on sometimes and I am almost positive it either needs a new 02 sensor or cat since when it was ran through a code reader those were the two options my mechanic told me it could be. I also hear a gurgling/crackling faint sound coming from the drivers side dashboard/engine area. I am not sure what this is. How can I get the airbag light off ?

I'm trying to figure out this noise I'm hearing whenever I accelerate. I can't tell if it's the turbo or something else. It doesn't have the smooth turbo spool sound like my mk4 GTI so I'm wondering if something is wrong or this is just how the car is....
It sounds like some kind of air induction but a little clangy at the same time. I'd try to record it but I don't think my iphone would pick it up.

When the car is in neutral or in gear at a standstill there's a noise right around 1000rpm that sounds like a serious rattle or knocking. It sounds as if the car is puttering out. So essentially, I give it gas to around 2000 and then take my foot off and on its way back to idle it will putter at 1000rpm.
If the clutch is fully depressed or fully disengaged the noise is no different. I haven't noticed the noise in any other situation other than when the car is stationary but it's still a very disconcerting noise and likely just being drowned out by other noises when moving.
Does this sound like something engine related or could it be DMF chatter? Could I possibly pick up on an issue by running tests or logging with VAGCOM?
Some background on the car:
-Modified with APR Turboback and Stage 1/2 file 1.3 (the noise is present with and without tune file)
-I run 93 only
-Most miles are highway miles, currently sitting at 23k miles
-I don't notice any issues with shifting, albeit some slipping when tuned in 6th gear (no slipping when using stock file)

The R has 48K miles on it. The other day i realized after driving it, a choppy noise coming from almost directly under the spark plugs. As the car was cooling down while still on the noise stopped for a few seconds and then started again. Any clue of what this might be?

So as I was driving my R32 home today, and as I came to a stop, it let out a crazy groan/noise.. It continued even as I was stopped. At first I thought it was the brakes just making noise since it was raining. The pitch of the sound was much different than a brake squeal too..
The only thing I can think of is I parked overnight under a carport, which that and the driveway is a decently steep grade.. Maybe its e-brake related? However I just changed my e brake cables.
The car drives great still. I drove 60 miles then it made that noise. Also I checked on a dirt road to see if my haldex was still working.

So for the past few months my car was making a strange noise under my car, it turned out it was the dogbone bolt that stretches to the bottom part of the transmission. Some how it got loose and was literally hitting my transmission. So we tried bolting it back on and won't screw which was kind of scary it had some type of play. Do I have to get a new 02m for a little ass bolt, do I weld it, or is there a subframe piece I can buy to replace the Broken part of the transmission.

Just bought a '15 Golf TSI S/sunroof with the 5MT (night blue, for the curious). Anyway, I've been getting a strange noise that was not present on the test drives, but that I first heard driving home from the dealer about a week ago. Since then it has happened intermittently, and not reliably enough that I've brought it back to inquire about. It is hard to describe, but sounds something like a whir and whine together. Typically it starts when I am in gear -- 4th, usually, though I can't figure why that would matter -- and then take my foot off the gas. If, however, I put the clutch in or put my foot back on the gas, it won't stop right away. It does stop when the car comes to a full stop. I'm beginning to suspect that it happens more when the car and/or the day is very hot. The times I've heard it most often, it has been over 90* outside, and the car has been driven for at least about 10 minutes.
I drove around for 25 minutes this morning and it finally did it, so I hit the sound recorder on my iPad. For reference, this morning it was about 81* out.
Here's a video link to it. It occurs at the 1:13 mark, if you want to skip ahead, but it's pretty faint over the background hum. The sound is clearer on the actual recording when I play it back on my iPad. [URL]........................................

So most noticeable is when i go into reverse. Initially it makes a loud clunking noise until the car begins moving then it stops ( sounds to come from right under the middle of the car, middle/front). Nothing like this in 1st from a slow start. But Another different noise between first and second when accelerating hard.
As I go to shift from first to second there's another louder clunk in between shifts. It almost sounds as if my seat wasn't bolted down tight and was moving. But definitely coming from under the car again, same spot...I just had a 42DD downpipe installed.

Canadian 2012 golf R. Build date 02/2012. 8500km ... Clutch sounds and feels weird since the beginning. But few weeks ago I started to hear a strange noise when parking in reverse. When stopped, clutch pressed, reverse engaged, then slip the clutch to move slowly and I'm hearing a buuuuuu noise for 2 or 3 seconds then stop.
When stopped, no gear, clutch pressed for few seconds then release : clac and like a grinding noise. Press clutch again, after maybe 1 second, the grinding stops. Also when driving normally at low speed, I notice the clutch is very noisy, looks like same grinding noise.
When I let the clutch slip a little bit to start moving from a stop, I feel a vibration. not only in the pedal but also in the car. The passenger can feel that.
Here is two quick videos ...
You will notice the "buuuuuuu" noise and also the grinding.

I just went APR Stage 1+ (APR hpfp plus VWR intake) and am loving the noticeable power gain from Stage 1. But under hard acceleration I'm getting a strange noise (sounds like wheelspin or tire screech and sounds like it's coming from the front tires) when I disengage the clutch to shift at higher (5K+) rpms. It is not metallic sounding (it sounds like burning rubber) and lasts for a split second then goes away.
For those of you who've had tuned GTIs, it essentially sounds like what my Stage 1 GTI sounded like when too much torque was going to the front wheels and I spun my wheels before I got traction.
It doesn't happen as I re-engage the clutch and it doesn't happen any other time (quick but not WOT acceleration or normal driving). It also didn't happen under hard acceleration before I went from Stage 1 to Stage 1+. Furthermore, I'm not having any issues with difficulty shifting or engaging gears at any time. My R is 1 month old and has ~1K miles.
I've searched the clutch/transmission troubles thread, and other threads, but haven't come across other sounds/symptoms that seem similar.
At first I was thinking it was just a split second of wheelspin from too much torque as the AWD kicked in, but that doesn't seem to make sense (or does it?) since it only happens when I'm disengaging the clutch. Any thoughts before I start thinking the worst?

About a two weeks ago, I had a CEL pop up. I brought it in to the stealership to get it scanned. I don't recall what the exact code was, but the description was something to the effect of "Cooling System Performance." I hadn't noticed that the engine temp was any different than it had ever been, so we kinda figured it was just a bad sensor. We popped the hood just to take a look at things, but he didn't really notice that anything was off. I thought the engine sounded a little difference. It wasn't idling rough, but there was a very subtle ticking noise. He didn't think anything of it. So he cleared the code, and sent me on my way.
The code came back a few days later, but disappeared about a week ago. Since then, however, my .:R has been feeling a little different. Like I'm losing torque. The ticking noise has become distinctly louder, although I can only hear it when I pop the hood. Last night, i was listening to it, and there are two separate noises, coming from two different locations. One is coming from the left side of the engine, most likely from one of the belts. The other is the one that worries me the most, as it's quite a bit louder. This ticking noise seems to be coming from the engine itself. The longer I let the car idle, the louder it gets.
One of my friends took a listen, and he suggested that it could be a blown piston ring. This would explain why I'm losing torque, but I haven't noticed any blue smoke coming from my exhaust.
