Name that sound!!! It's coming from the rear. Sounds like a spinning creak sound kind of rattly. Always after cold starts it's more prevalent. Happens in first and second gear mostly at 3-4k rpm... Not as noticeable when warmed up but still there. Can't figure it out....

View 5 RepliesI had the weirdest noise in my prius this morning when I started it. This was the first really cold morning so far ( 24) and Ive had the car a few months now, new to me 2010. When I started it, it went clunk clunk clunk like something was spinning in the gear box and hitting something as it came around, possibly from generator box too. Car was in park when this happend and during the initial startup. Then it quickly got less and went away within about 20 secs. This wasn't some light sound either, pretty loud and If I would have got under the hood fast enough I could have tracked it down maybe. Also on a side note the previous day I got a weird yellow light on for no reason under heavy acceleration. It was the yellow light with 4 tires in it showing sliding. Anyway it was on for about a min then went out. Dry road no sliding of any kind. I continued to drive the car 140 miles today without an issue.

(automatic transmission) i was at a stop sign in the rain and accelerated only to hear a clunking noise and it sounds like its spinning around and clunking and it hits something on its way around every time. clunk clunk clunk clunk. when i put it back in park i can feel what ever is spinning stop in the gear shift stick.
View 1 RepliesI had to really hard brake today over a very very short distance...the tires locked and the car slid for about 5 feet. Car is 2000 corolla, 4-spd auto.
As soon as I came to a full stop, I notice the engine was still "spinning" like it was in second gear...because the RPM was around 1000rpm (idle is 650). As soon as I started moving, there was a slight clunk noise (sounded like it came from CV half axle/transmission).
Although rare, This also happened a couple of times before when hard braking. It downshifts to 2.. idles around 1000rpm for a couple of seconds... and then there is a "slight" clunk noise.
Other than this, the transmission/engine has been very smooth and the car has no problems.
Just noticed this last week when I was driving around at slow speeds with my windows down. If I turn either left or right I can hear a faint little tick or creak for a split second. I can usually make it constantly do it if I swerve back and forth at slow speeds. Sometimes it happens when I hit a little bump as well. It makes me think it has something to do with with either the suspension or maybe some part of the steering components. Little things like this on a new car just annoy me. I don't really feel like taking it in to a dealer because I can almost guarantee they will come back with the typical "couldn't replicate noise" response.

View 3 RepliesI have a 1996 explorer that started making a high speed spinning sound when you let off the accelerator at 30 mph or above. If you put it neutral the spinning sound will go away, or if you press on the accelerator. I thought maybe the torque converter, but a transmission mechanic said probably not, I'm still not convinced. He thought maybe the transfer case.

What could be causing it? cause im doing my year end "maintenance" (if its worn/almost broke, perfect excuse to buy upgrades) ...
My control arms are brand new with r32 bushings as are my 034strut mounts/bearings. I checked my steering fluid level and its good.

My 09 LS w/ 65k on it wont start. last night i drove the car around to several places, and on my last stop of the day i couldnt get the car to start. finally after several tries, it fired right up. but today, no such luck.
All the lights come on (and I have charged my batery with a tender to be sure its not the battery), the steering wheel moves in to position, and I either get a click, or a buzzing sound.
Sounds like starter, any other opinions?
I'm a fairly new owner of a 2002 W8 Passat. A few days ago I was leaving the grocery store to come home. The car usually starts right up. This time is took 2 or 3 tries of cranking the starter til it fired on. On the drive home I noticed the A/C no longer worked and it didn't display the temperature on the A/C screen like usual. I got home just fine. The next morning I tried to start it. The starter and battery sound very strong. I was a little low on fuel so I dumped two gallons in - didn't work. I noticed a sound like a hard drive spinning or searching coming from the middle of the dash. I thought is was the cd player, but I ruled that out by taking out the stereo fuse. Is there a computer that went bad? I can't imagine there being an actual spinning hard drive in the car, but that's what it sounds like to me. I also noticed the clock and trip meter were reset as well. I didn't disconnect the battery to cause this. All fuses look good. I'm hoping it's not the fuel pump. Bad relay?
View 7 RepliesEvery time when i accelerate, there is a 'blade spinning sound' coming out from the engine, i noticed it when my car hit around 5k miles, now it's about 7300 miles. any idea what that is? could be the belt problem?
The second noise is a constant 'locking' sound comes from back passenger side. when I locked all doors, (especially in quiet night makes noticeable) about every 10 minus, the door kept making a 'locking' sound, it sounds the latch and the lock can't fully attached each other, and the door has to constantly reboot the auto-lock system.
What are the issues of these two annoying sounds?
I have a 2004 Ford f250 6.0. When driving it down the road i will hear a loud spinning sound, sorta like putting a playing card in your bicycle spokes. The sound can be heard until I make a complete stop where at that time the sound stops and a clunk can be felt. After that the truck sounds normal. This also only happens once between starting the truck and turning it off. I took it into the shop and they could not hear the sound, all they said is i need new ball joints.

View 8 RepliesI replaced some TYC OEM headlights on my car with stock OEM Hella headlights and cleaned up the lenses really nice.
Once installed, I went to adjust the headlights to find out that the passenger outer adjustment just spins.

I am not too sure if I can fix this. The little wheel doesn't seem like it can be removed and it has some back and forth play on it.
Need to successfully repaired headlight adjustment?
How to keep the driveshaft from spinning while I undo the 10mm 12pts? It just seems around enough to slightly scare me into thinking the car might move, and I can't seem to break them loose.
View 10 Repliesso I am coming up my driveway with about 4 inches of snow.... with TC on... and it bogged and stopped.... soi was like huh.... lets put this bitch to the test... so I put it back in gear, and it bogged and stalled..... so I am stuck... I live up a pretty steep hill and I have the Haldex mod.. but it seems that the rear wheels aren't spinning in both TC mode and non-TC.
View 24 RepliesMy wife was driving our Jetta (08 2.0T DSG) this afternoon when it cut off on her. She eased off onto the side of the road and tried to refire, but the starter was just spinning. I popped the hood and the oil was extremely low, so I thought that might be the issue. I put in a quart of oil and everything looked good...tried to start the car, and it's not firing at all. I disconnected the battery hoping that resetting the car would work, but the car just wouldn't turn over or fire...it's like the starter is spinning itself and everything else connected to the belt, but not the motor. I had to leave it about 30 miles away, but plan on going back out in the morning to mess around with it.

It's making a weird noise, and sounds pretty bad... kinda like a rough TDI. It makes the sound when in gear, either accelerating or decelerating. There isn't any noise to speak of at idle.

When I drive my car and its still cold in a first gear i let it go from clutch there is this whining sound... It sounds like its coming form suspension not sure
View 3 Replies1.8t AWP, driving in any gear, and when i let go of the gas, you hear a ticking sound, as if you're riding a mountain bike and you stop pedaling. That kinda ticking. Is this normal? Have never heard it before.
