I bought the car with a polo wiper already installed and I'm totally fine with that because it looks a lot better. The thing is, the sprayer has never worked. I can hear it function when I use the lever for it but it doesn't shoot anything out. I took a pic and it looks like I'm missing something. If not, I guess I'll have to take it apart.
View 16 RepliesSo the day after getting my 5000 mile service (an entirely different story for that) I tried to clean off my rear window and found that the sprayer worked but the wiper didn't. Leaving even more of a mess.
Both the sprayer and the button on the wiper head to open just the glass work perfectly. With the stalk on just rear wipe there isn't even any sound coming from the wiper motor like it's trying to move but jammed. I have made sure the little prong is in the groove in the circular plate it goes into. I have checked the fuse box and fuse 52 isn't burned out (although oddly it only has a 5 amp fuse in it, not the 30 amp as the manual describes).
The only thing i'd like to check is the wiring under the dash. I can't remember if I have used the wiper since I installed my hands free kit, but I had both the a pillar trim and the under dash panel off. I assume it travels in the bundle down the a pillar, but then where does it go. I was very careful wiring the hands free but I suppose I could have pulled a wire loose inadvertantly re-installing the panel trim or something.
Weird issue on my MK4 GTI. So it started out just as the rear windshield sprayer would work intermittently. Then the same happened to the front one. Then sometimes the rear windshield wiper would just come on by itself when hitting bumps on the highway. Now sometimes the front windshield wipers won't work, the rear doesn't work at all, and neither sprayers work.
So, where's best to start? I figured maybe the toggle switch is worn out. I haven't looked to see how hard it is to get out/test. I assume there's some linkage or wires I can get to once I remove the trim under the steering wheel to do a simple continuity test and see if the switch is working. Or would relays cause this? I wouldn't think that many relays could fail this quickly while running at normal voltages...
The rear windshield sprayer is down to a sad and pathetic trickle, making it impossible to clean the glass while underway. This is especially troublesome during the winter months.
View 2 RepliesI'm working on a 2003 that the front wiper and sprayer quit working on. The rear wiper and sprayer still work fine. We replaced the multifunction switch and no change. I would like to test the motor before we keep throwing parts at it.

View 14 RepliesI just installed the lights and found that only the outside left light worked with the brake depressed, the outside left inside left and inside right worked with the light switch in the on position. Also both blinkers work.
I switched my byte 18 to 04 already and am not (as of now) using my euro light switch (I didn't think this would be it but I'm at a complete loss) ...
Do the rear wiper arm of a new model Audi A3 can replace the 2015 GTI's? The GTI version leaves a bunch of the blade exposed and I would like a cleaner look with no exposed blade. I think the A3 may work and still have the same size wiper.

Suddenly, on it's own, it went up and locked in place and will not retract under any circumstances, i.e. switch inoperable; no effect when moving gear selector from Park to Reverse (should retract). Most annoying is the greatly decreased visibility especially at night as the rear window is also tinted, and it also buzzes loudly for 20 seconds when the vehicle is put into Reverse from Park.One Avalon user suggested to pull the 10A fuse or pay about $700. to repair the sunshade unit.
View 6 RepliesJust had the dealer install the VW trialer hitch on my TReg. When I got the truck back I noticed the rear parking distance meter no longer worked. The front works fine, but when I put the car in reverse the display meter ligts up the red segments and a warning is sounded for 2 - 3 seconds. The technician said he didn't know what the problem is but would be researching.
View 2 RepliesThe rear wiper on my wife's 20th stopped working the other day. I checked the fuse and it was fine. I pulled off the rear panel and got to the wiring. I don't have a Bentley so I'm not sure what wire does what. I tested the wires and the far left is a switch 12V and the far right is the ground. The center two didn't show any voltage with or without the wiper on. When should these wire see power? What else should I check?
View 16 RepliesI've got a MkV R32, and I had an '07 GTI before it. I never had this problem with my GTI, but with the R32, the rear wiper jet had become clogged, and then started moving from it's 12 o'clock position to 9 o'clock with the wiper arm when in use.
I replaced the jet last week, which seemed to solve part of the clog issue, but the jet/nozzle, still moves. I am going to try popping the rear hatch cover off today to try and see what if there's an issue there, (I suspect there is, as I have washer fluid leaking through the hatch latch still, MkV R32.
I suspect there is a buildup of residue on something that it dragging on the new nozzle. I don't want to mess something up....
I have a leak in my rear wiper fluid line on my GTI. When I use the rear washer, I get a pool of fluid in the driver side taillight and under the rear seats. I'm getting some fluid in the rear driver side headliner as well so the break must be there. First step is to pull the headliner.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2003 Golf GTI VR6. Over probably a year, my rear wiper began working only intermittently. Eventually it stopped working at all. Based on lotsa googling, here's the troubleshooting I've done so far to investigate:
1. Pushed the stalk forward, listened for relay *tick* sound. I didn't hear the tick. Wiper doesn't move.
2. Went outside the car and didn't hear any sounds coming from the wiper motor.
3. Pushed stalk all the way forward, rear wiper washer was activated and works fine. Wiper doesn't move.
4. Checked wiper fuses. No indication of blown fuse.
5. Pulled the relay and inspected. No burn marks or loose wires.
6. Ran voltage through the relay and relay opens and closes without issue.
From what I've read, the fact that the relay appears to work fine in tests but doesn't work in the car suggests either the stalk or a wiring harness failure. I've also read washer fluid can leak in to the motor and cause it to stop working, but that seemed like a less likely cause. What do you all think?
Looks like the gasket/seal for my rear wiper fluid line is bad. Fluid leaking/spraying out of the back. Nothing major but it's having to wipe off the fluid so often. And another reason to delete my rear wiper...
View 1 RepliesRear wiper stays on regardless of switch position. It runs as if the switch was on - intermittently. No critters chewing, Stops with the fuse pulled. We get lots of snow and I need it, rain-x won't cut it. It has 80k on the clock and everything works perfectly. the wiper homes between runs. Disconnected the battery for 5 mins for fun. Is this switch prone to this kind of failure?

I notice it when I first turn on the car and it is about every 8 ish seconds. Tried to capture it but it is too faint to pick up on cam. 2011 Gti, 39k

View 2 RepliesHow far does the rear wiper go? Full half circle; 180 degrees? Or is it less? It seems to me the couple times I used it, it made a full 180 degree sweep. After having the rear window replaced, it now only goes about 140-150 degrees. Stops at 10 o'clock position and returns.
