I noticed a few days ago that when I back out of my driveway, or any time I go in reverse, when i turn, either direction, it feels lime my rear wheels are skidding across the pavement. Now I know that can't be happening because it hasn't always acted that way and it's just illogical. But what it could be, cv joint? Do I have any in the rear.
View 7 RepliesFixed my AWD. Needed a new Haldex pump. Did a fluid change and new Haldex filter. All using factory stuff.
AWD works great now. The problem though is when im making tight slow speed turns. I.E. backing out of a parking stall. I get a noise from the rear diff like something rubbing, or a tire skidding.
Is this normal? I bought my car from the dealership without my AWD working and just got it fixed, so I really didn't know what an AWD R32 was like.
I replaced the rear brakes on my 2003 Jetta 2.0. Reman. Calipers, new pads and rotors.
I bleed the rear right and then the rear left. Have full pressure in the pedal but the disc in grinding at low speeds and when I apply the brakes the rear wheels almost lock up.
It was brought to my attention that staggered wheels Can blow out the rear dif? Is this common? I currently have 18x8 and 18x9 rear summer wheels and I haven't seen any issues occur yet.
View 12 Repliesso I am coming up my driveway with about 4 inches of snow.... with TC on... and it bogged and stopped.... soi was like huh.... lets put this bitch to the test... so I put it back in gear, and it bogged and stalled..... so I am stuck... I live up a pretty steep hill and I have the Haldex mod.. but it seems that the rear wheels aren't spinning in both TC mode and non-TC.

My 06 Sonata LX 3.3 has me smiling except for two items, MPG, which I hope will improve after break-in, and a "k-thump" sound from the area of both rear tires. It occurs as I pass over fairly small bumps and ridges in the pavement, and remind me of the sound that is made by a bad shock. I took it to the dealer at 900 miles. They drove it and inspected the rear end and proclaimed all was OK. They claim it is caused by the low profile tires. I have never had low profile tires before, but it seems to me if that were the cause, the front tires would make the same sound, but they don't. The front end is sooo quiet. All tires have the recommended 30 PSI.
View 469 RepliesWhen I drive over quick choppy bumps in pavement I get a rattle in the rear of the suspension, but only when the bump is on one side. When the bump is long and activates both rear wheels, like a speed bump or a large road crack I don't get the rattle.
The sound seems to be worse on the right side and I can't really figure it out. Anything specific I should look out for?
I'm the proud owner of a 2008 RX350 with low mileage (40,000 miles - US model). I purchased it a year ago and I haven't had any mechanical problems. However it's been 3 months that I have this rattle from the rear, especially when driving over uneven pavement.
I had the vehicle checked by a local mechanic but he couldn't find any loose part at the exception of the spare tire plastic cover underneath that looked a bit flimsy but he couldn't tell for sure... I even did an oil change at a Lexus dealership and they didn't find anything when they hoisted the car but they didn't look hard either....
I've disconnected the tonneau cover and put the release latches, for the tonneau, in the lock position (towards the front of the vehicle). That didn't solve the problem. Lastly I removed my plate cover and still didn't resolve it.
Anyway, the rattle seems to come from somewhere underneath, around the trunk area and is loud when you hit bump or drive on uneven road and it's driving me crazy!
My 20K R I now generating noises when transvering small pavement imperfections, like cracks filled with tar that are not there with my other cars. It is pretty noticeable almost vibrations through the body and wheel. Only mod I hav done that would effect that is the lower E34 dogbone. It feels like strut bushings, but hard to fathom that at 20K. It is like the rubber isolator from the wheels are gone.
View 19 RepliesThe other day, as I got up to speed on the interstate on moderately wet asphalt, a harmonic vibration started at around 65mph. Felt it in the seat of my pants more than in the steering wheel...the entire chassis was vibrating. So bad that when I called a friend to ask him what he thought, he could hear the vibration in my voice. Clutch in, engaged, under power, under back pressure - nothing affected the pitch or harmonics. Below 65 changed the intensity, but had to slow to 50 to make it stop. Took it all the way to 90, but no difference. This kept up for the entire 70 mile trip.
Now for the weird part. On my way back, 2 hours later, the rain had stopped and the interstate was now dry. No vibration. Just as smooth as glass all the way home. I had it in for service recently, because it happened once before...no codes, no clue from tech as to what brought this on. And just to be sure, I had them balance the wheels...very minor weight adjustment. I called the dealer on the way back to tell them it happened again, and all the tech could suggest was to stop by next time it was raining so they could road test it.
Even more weird is the fact that this has only happened twice and I drive the interstate in the rain all the time.
How do I turn on the automatic rear wipe when I put the car in reverse? I already activated it in the car's menu but it still doesn't do it when I put the car in reverse. I am still trying to figure out the automatic wipe for the front also . Had it activated in the menu and also left the stick in the int position...going to see if it work tomorrow in the rain. Having problem with juddering issue on their wipers (front and back)? I got the for about 2-3 months now and today is the first time I drove it in the rain so haven't notice these issues since I got the car.
View 8 RepliesI noticed that my sunroof creaks slightly when going over rough pavement when closed. I can duplicate the noise by pushing up on the closed sunroof with my fist. It's not loud at all but with the radio off and at lower speeds I can hear it.
View 9 RepliesThe front suspension of my R has been making a lot of racket lately. Every small pavement imperfection creates a dull thud or thump. Could it be my strut mounts? They are about 3 years old — I replaced them when I installed Koni FSD under stock springs. I have a vague recollection that the distance between the top of the shock tower and the underside of the metal strut "hat" should be no more than 10mm... I have about a 12mm gap. Does that mean anything?
View 5 RepliesI just got back from being gone awhile to find that my rear view camera has stopped working. I get a message that says "rear view camera system is currently unavailable" when I put the car in reverse.
The camera does come out like it should so I'm guessing it's something to do with wiring maybe a short or something. I have a 2014 RCD-510 with the camera input...
I installed rvc couple of months ago. When I put in reverse, only shows straight yellow lines on screen. Is there any way to activate to lines turn with steering wheel (like cars with parking sensors)? I was wondering if there is Vag_com trick available for this option.
View 7 RepliesWhen I go out in the morning to my c430 and start to reverse always on full lock either right or left the wheels seem to slip or slightly spin - it only happens for a second but it's strange and doesn't always happen.
View 2 RepliesWhile using moderate braking just enough that only the electric motors are retarding the car if I hit a decent bump, say a pothole, I momentarily lose the brakes. We're talking a fraction of a second, but it is still noticeable.
My initial thought is that it's programmed into the car to save the drivetrain from a shock load when the tire regains proper traction, or possibly there's a concern about the tire skidding. Either way, it's a bit of a strange sensation to me and I'm wondering if it's normal.
I Locked Differentials and put DAC on, but still car was Skidding while going downhill . Do I have to select any other options that will work with this skidding issue?
View 14 RepliesToday while trying to get in my driveway I skidded in some snow and was temporarily stuck. After shoveling the snow and getting in the driveway I stopped the car and restarted it. I now have a warning buzzer and ABS warning lights on. Any way to get these reset without having to take it into the shop in the morning?
View 10 RepliesI found that my 2012 CAMRY SE has an issue when you turn sharply either performing a U turn or any sharp turn you will hear a clunking noise and feel a thumping in the steering wheel. The other day I had to make a U-turn and the front wheel of the car actually skidded a bit half way thru the turn and made the clunking/thumping noise.
I have also experienced this backing out of parking spaces when the wheel is turned hard. I can recreate the issue simply by doing tight circles in a parking lot. The front passenger in the car can also hear the thumping. I found another 2012 CAMRY SE owner at work and we recreated the same exact issue in the work parking lot. You actually feel the front tire skid a bit or get that sensation.
OK - the dealer called me today after having their mechanic test drive the car. They told me this is NORMAL and even the new 2014 Camry does the same thing. They said the new electronic steering makes this noise on sharp or extreme turns and it's not like the old intermediate steering shaft problems they had before.
