So I am getting a crinkle/pop noise going slow in 1st gear. I don't know if its the clutch or the gear itself. drives fine but the noise is pissing me off. its like a mixture of crinkles and pops .
View 11 RepliesFirst, when I downshift to 2nd gear for instance, I don't feel like the car slows down any and I'm still needing to hit the brakes to slow down. In previous cars, going to 2nd would seem to make revs go up and slow the car down. Wondering if this is common on the Golf R to almost feel nothing when downshifting?
Second, my gauge cluster lights up when I'm driving outside w/o the lights on. When I go into a parking deck the gauge cluster starts out lit and then goes completely black except for the blue needles. Wondering if this is normal or if I have a cluster issue?
Car has 17,000 miles on it and completely stock minus the soundaktor removed.
Ok so lately I noticed a horrific rattling coming from the rear of my car. It happens mostly when I'm in a high gear going slow with a load on the gear. It's sort of like the rattle that comes from the exhaust with the same gear load but it's much looser and rattley sounding, and it doesn't always do it. It almost sounds like a piece of sheet metal in my spare tire well rattling when there's a gear load and the exhaust rattles. But I checked in there and it seems tight.
View 5 RepliesWhen I come to traffic and slow down, I have this jerky feeling when I'm coming to a stop. It's not from my brake or transition from gear changing. It's repetition of jerky feeling, not like one jerk from second to first gear.
For example, I'm in my first gear and stopped on the road. If I release the brake pedal and do NOT press gas, my car slowly moves forward with this jerky pulsation. It also makes noise (well.. I can hear it through my exhaust) while it moves. It feels like car is about to move, then stops, then moves, then stops.... I don't really get this when I apply gas.
I just picked up my new R (Rising Blue 2 Door w/ S-Roof & Nav) yesterday and love it, except for one thing. When accelerating and changing up through the gears, the revs seem very slow to drop after lifting off the gas and dipping the clutch to select the next gear. It is like there is a delay between me lifting off and the instruction getting to the engine.
View 6 RepliesSo I'm driving to work and as I slow down to pay the toll I hear a weird grinding noise from the rear (sounds to be rear right) get out and check the crime scene. The plate is not rubbing on the rotor and there is nothing stuck between the rotor and the plate, so then i check the pad and they look pretty low, check the other side and looks the same, check the front and they r good n meaty. So can this mean I need new pads? The grinding noise goes and the car goes, the faster i go the faster the grinding noise goes, as i slow down it slows does..
Wanna make sure I get the problem right so I can fix it since I'm doing a Haldex oil service cause I also have the binding noise and then i gotta get the coolant flush done... hope all I need is pads... The noise goes away when I brake.
Noticed the front suspension makes some "flexing" noises when turning the wheel during slow speed maneuvers? (e.g. during parallel parking). The best way I can describe it is it sounds like the suspension is being compressed as I turn the wheel as the car has almost come to a complete stop. (yes I know we should avoid turning the wheel when stationary). I realize it's probably normal. I'll just add it to the list of other noises my car likes to make. My car is bone stock btw.

View 1 RepliesA sort of honking/grinding noise, like really loud squealing brakes - but a lower sound, when at low speed, with the wheel turned right for maximum turning. Generally located in the front end.
It occurs consistently when I am returning home, slowing to a stop to pull around a curve in the road, right before I back into my driveway. It occurs with the clutch in or out, and with the brakes on or not. I tried doing slow sharp turns in a parking lot and I can't replicate it there.
It's happened for almost as long as I've had the car, and there's only about 1300km on it now. I've just been trying to track it down to replicate for the dealer. Taking it to the dealer is obviously my next step. I think I'm going to have to take a tech for a ride to my house to replicate it!
Car is completely stock so far.
Noticed my 5 week old MK7 GTI is making squeaky noises on the driver's side when turning left at slow speeds. What this could be? Occurs intermittently, not all the time. This is a leased vehicle, would this be covered by warranty?
View 7 RepliesSo I got my Haldex fluid and DSG fluid changed two weeks ago. When I picked the car up I noticed a vibration when I was making tight turns. Last week I called the dealer and told them. They said to drive it a bit more to see if it works it self out. But now after getting back from H2Oi, it still is doing it but not as bad.
Its a vibration you can feel and a rumble you can hear when making a tight turn at slow speed. Like turning into a parking space or turning at a stop sign. What would this be? I searched but couldn't find an exact answer.
So... Took my car into a tire shop (tire pros) to get a screw pulled out of my front left tire... And after they finish the job - the guy comes up to me and says "your front brakes don't have much life left." I said, "I know I'm planning to change them in the next couple of weeks"...
He then said, "well I think your sensor just went off, when I pulled the car around.." I said "okay", got in the car and drove off - no brake light what so ever.
Anyways, A few hours later when pulling my car around the corner on the way home - I noticed that I am all of the sudden getting a random scraping sound from the front-right rotor anytime I turn the well all the way to the left at slow speeds...
I'm not too worried about it - just want to make sure these guys aren't trying to sabotage my car! The only thing that kills me, is that I didn't have the sound before and no all of the sudden I do? I'm assuming they somehow slightly moved the pad, causing it to somehow squeal - I'm just not exactly sure what they did...
I've put exactly 10,075 miles on my GTI as of this writing. The DSG tranny performs very well, and shifts as smoothly as ever.
However - I have recently started noticing gear whine from the DSG. Now, this isn't a subject I'm unfamiliar with, since I had the DSG in my MK6 replaced at about 15k miles after it developed an eerily similar whine, especially in 1st gear. The MK7 whines in almost every gear from about 1500 - 4000 RPM, during both acceleration and deceleration at light to moderate throttle. Granted, it's not all that noticeable with the radio on/if you're not listening for it. What concerns me, however, is that although I'm fairly sure the whine existed in 1st gear since the car was new, I don't remember it happening in all other gears.
Additionally, there is a fair bit of what sounds like flywheel chatter in Park/Neutral. This noise has also gotten progressively worse since I took delivery.
Issue with my 2001 gti. When i put it into 1st gear its makes a weird noise and even when i drive in first but once i go to second it goes away and in all the other gears it dosnt make the noise. I think its the throw out bearing.
View 8 RepliesI've had my car for less than a week and have noticed something, I want to check with you all here to see if it is common or not.
When in 2nd gear with my foot off the gas between 1-2K RPM, I hear a faint whining sound that gets lower in pitch as the RPMs drop. An example of when this would happen is if I were coming up to a stop sign in a residential area in 2nd gear, coasting to the stop sign. The sound starts a little under 2K RPM.
I don't remember hearing this in 3rd gear and I haven't tried in 1st.
Sometimes when I shift from first to second and second to third I hear a clanking noise coming from under the car. It happens when I move the stick and clutch pedal is fully depressed. Doesn't happen all the time and doesn't happen in gears 4-6. Something I should be worried about? Car is stock and has about 1k miles. It's been doing this since I bought it.
Also get a deeper boom noise coming from back sometimes when depressing clutch petal when under boost. Think this is normal tho? My BMW used to do the same thing.
Weird noise - searched .. couldnt find anything mainly because its kinda hard to describe it .. While in 1st and 2nd gear at low rpms while barely giving it any gas there is this "ticking" noise coming from under the hood .. it almost sounds like .. lets put it this way .. it sounds like a wire coat hanger .. tapping an aluminum can .. how about that .. I was told it is my flywheel bolts backing out and was a problem around 65-75k .. and I am at 70k at the moment... Should I just bite the bullet and get a new flywheel and if so ..[IMG] [URL] ....
View 6 RepliesAll of a sudden, my car doesn't like to stay in first gear? I tried to put it into first gear and it wouldn't stay there, it made a grinding noise when I tried to go. So, if I want to start going, I literally have to hold it there to keep it in first gear.
View 16 RepliesI have a 2001 Elantra gls which I bought a year ago. It had shifting problems from 2nd to 3rd gear with CEL on. I replaced the input and output speed sensors and connectors and fixed the problem to a point. It was still shifting a little hard even after a fluid change with SP111. I added 2 bottles of Lubeguard red and it has worked immensely almost to the point of no problems....except. At slow speed shifting like going into a store parking lot or on a freeway with stop and go traffic, it will shift hard from 2nd to 3rd (I think) maybe 1st to 2nd not sure. If accelerating at normal speed shifts fine. No cel and the tranny fluid is on the full mark, not overfilled. Would a wheel speed senso cause this or damaged clutch pacs maybe?.
View 4 RepliesOur 2002 Explorer E.B., V6 4wd 153,000 miles, when cold only in winter months the transmission is slow to go into gear, forward or reverse, takes 10 or 15 seconds to catch into gear. If you warm the car up for 5 minutes or so it is ok no problem. In warm weather it does not do this. Transmission shifts normally and runs great other than this. I changed tranny fluid and filter with Mercon V about 12 months ago. Could it be the solenoid pack or something else.
View 3 RepliesJust bought a new 2011 GTI last week, now I'm hearing a weird noise when I accelerate in first or in reverse. It just sounds like something is loose in the engine bay. I don't know if it's the wastegate sound that occurs on all TSI's or if it's something else. It's basically like the sound of a vibration but without the feeling of a vibration.
