View 2 RepliesMy Honda CRX, 1989 failed the NJ Inspections for very high Emissions. The engine has 200,000 miles. I had a lot of repairs done on it: new majorrnator, new oil pan cover, new engine gasket, new radiator, new axels. brakes, new alternator. catalytic converter, muffler. Unfortunately, now it failed for very high emissions. I added the Diesel and Car Cleaner, but did not work. what can I do to fix the car so it will pass the Emissions Test? what can be wrong with it, and will it cost me a lot of money. Is it worth trying to cure it or should I retire it, and sell it?I am on a very tight budget, and am depending on this car for my transportation.
View 11 RepliesI drive a 1990 240 with close to 300,000 miles on it. Haven’t had any troubles with it in the 1-2 years I’ve had it.
Recently went in to get my smog checked and failed two of the three tests: the functional and emissions. I've attached the VIR.
Mechanic said there might be a leak, so a buddy of mine checked the engine for a vacuum leak but couldn’t find anything.
What are the common sources for a failed smog check? I plan on getting a diagnostic later in the week/

My 1992 Honda Accord failed the emission test today for a too high NOX reading. The applicable standard is 2.50 and my car's reading was 2.61. I've read that high NOX has something to do with a malfunctioning EGR valve. Will replacing the EGR valve guarantee that I pass the emissions test? I don't want to start throwing money at all kinds of parts.
View 4 RepliesI own an '01 Honda Accord LX with the ULEV engine and 178k on it. My CEL light came on about 6 months ago. Ran the scanner and it showed a P1457 (EVAP Leak). Waited until now when my inspection was due and expected it to be caused by the EVAP shut valve as I read that's often the cause of the problem with this code. Mechanic said that it can't pass inspection because of the OBD fail but that the diagnostic scanner showed everything functioning properly, including my assumption about the faulty shut valve.
He reset the code and said to drive it the 50 miles for the system to ready itself and bring it back in. As I've reset the code several times over the 6 months to see if it would self correct, I'm pretty confident it will come back on. My questions are, is it possible I've done damage to the onboard computer by not addressing the underlying problem 6 months ago? Are there emissions problems that are not checked by the diagnostic tool that the mechanic should be looking for?
On New Years day the water pump on my Golf MK4 broke and all coolant leaked out. I had that replaced together with the cam belt. When I got the car back, the next day when the car was starting from cold I noticed it was very rough when idle, car about to stall then RPM jumps, drops and jumps up again. I drove for a minute and when stopped at some lights, the car juddered and "Emissions Workshop" warning came up along with 'ECU / engine warning light' and 'Brake system / brake fluid warning light'. Drove a couple more minutes and all warnings disappeared. Was fine for rest of the day.
Same thing happened the next morning. Once warmed up it is fine for the rest of the day unless the car is left undriven long enough for it to be completely cold. I know nothing about cars so have relied on my local garage. I was told the diagnostics reported a fault with the coil pack so had that changed along with plugs and leads. The next morning the same problem was still there. Then told could be coolant temperature sensor so had that replaced too. Still same problem.
So I think my A/c high pressure switch went out/failed. I came out from a shop and I had just bought 2 new front tires and got them mounted 1 hour prior and I though that I had ran over something. I felt around the passenger tire but didn't find a anything-but there was a hissing noise behind the passenger tire and the air smelled a little funny. So when I got in the car and turned the a/c on nothing happened/No cold air and I had just used the A/c on the way over to the shop. So when I got home I pulled these codes:
00792.Air Conditioner pressure switch F129
01274.Motor for Air Recirculation flap V71
Dropped my car off at Costco for a few hours (New Tires) and when I picked it up, the "unlock" key on my key fob failed to work. The Lock and trunk unlock keys work but the typical unlock (for the doors) doesn't work at all.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to run the UM tune on my ecu, getting an error "Failed to get control unit information from the ecu"
I do not have vag-com unfortunately but I don't believe it's currently flashed. If it's already flashed, I can still just over-write the current tune because it's just software from my understanding.
I have no blown fuses, I have already checked them all!
So I was getting my car flashed to stage 1 at a dealership here in the Chicago suburbs and there was CSG R in there with the timing belt shredded. Turns out water pump came apart, shreded the timing belt, and apparently the pistons smashed the valves. I got a call from my friend whos a mechanic and said another one is getting towed there today with the same issue. Both have between 2k and 3k miles on them.
View 24 Replies2010, 35k miles... didn't see that coming.
Looks like the hose is made of some plastic material that doesn't like flexing very much. I guess I opened the rear hatch enough times to break it.
Is this a common problem? Is there a proper size coupler available to fix this?
What are the values of CO2 emissions from the 2.0T automatic ? i think it should be in g/mi. the only info i found is that the engine complies with Bin 8 EPA..
View 7 RepliesWe have a 92 Honda Accord 2.2L We have been trying to get it to pass emissions since October. So far we have replace the gas cap, replaced the O2 sensor and replaced the EGR valve. Here are the readings 25/25 test 50/15 testHC ppm 17 29CO% .07 .20NO ppm 1162 1230 after replacing the O2 sensor but before the EGR the 25/25 side passed reading 1005CO+CO2 % 15 15
View 9 Replieswhen i start up my car and start driving it a light comes on that says emissions workshop what soes this mean is it a aabd thing???
View 5 RepliesFor the first time in 3 years the emissions light (yellow engine icon) is on. Have 88k miles so guess I'll have it checked out at 90,000. Is it ok to run it that long?
View 12 RepliesWell my wife's 05 Touareg with 16000 miles on it has just gotten an engine light (Shaped like an engine). The manual says it is the emissions system.
View 2 RepliesI'm the orgional owner of a 2001 Passat 1.8T with manual transmission...It has 93,000 miles on it.
Last week, the check engine light came on and a "Emissions Workshop!" message light came on. It was on for a few days, then disappeared for a few days, only to come back.
I took it to Autozone for a reading. Here's the results:
"The PCM has determined that during testing, the fuel system for bank 1 was too lean.
Definition: Fuel trim bank one condition
Explanation: The powertrain control module uses the oxygen sensor to calculate the air/fuel ratio of the engine.
The computer has recognized a rich or lean condition on one engine bank only.
Probable Causes:1. If bank one and two codes set together fuel pressure or MAF Sensor
2. Oxygen sensor defective
3. Ignition misfire-repair
4. Fuel injector repair.
Someone here asked if my oil was recently changed-It was.
Driveability hasn't been affected, nor has mpg. The car drives as normal.
I need to go on a 1,000 mile trip in a few days, and don't think I'll have time to have the car serviced.
So im new to this form and i have many questions about my car. I have a 2000 Passat 1.8 20v Turbo and my emissions light keeps coming on as soon as i start the car and start driving. there are two codes that came up when my buddy scanned it. ones P1128 and the other is P0411 Sec. Air Injection Incorrct flow. Also my sunroof only opens up it doesnt slid back can this be fixed?
View 2 RepliesThis light went on after i was about 1/2 way though a tank of gas. After i refilled it the sensor went off. This occurred on and off for about 2 weeks. Now the light has stayed on for a few days, than turned off for a few hours. Well now its back on again, any issues with this sensor? I think its just the sensor and hope its not something major. It stays light the entire time and does not flash.
View 3 RepliesCan I get an explanation of the components involved in the EPC system/circut. Car gets wet and epc light comes on with emissions workshop. I don't want to get rid of my Volkswagen Passat 2000.
View 2 RepliesI bought a 2000 Passat GLS w/ the V6 a couple weeks ago, and the very next day after buying it, the CEL came on and something popped on saying Emissions Workshop. I waited a couple weeks to see if it would turn off, but it didn't so I took it to a mechanic.
The first time, they just said a couple codes were off so they reset the computer. About 20 miles later, the lights came back on. I took it back and they hooked it up to their computer again.
They said the o2 sensors were perfect, and it was most likely some sort of resistance in one of my cats. The car runs absolutely perfect. I just wanted to get some feedback from ya'll because I do not want to pay the money to have a cat replaced if I don't have to.
