Just drove 60 miles and parked the car. loud whine coming from the fuel pump area. and the exhaust smells a hell of a lot different. Smells like fuel in the exhaust. Stage 3 kinetics kit. stock exhaust. Upgraded fuel system.
View 6 RepliesThis winter when car warms to temperature and with climate control in auto I get fairly loud grinding/whine sound from area behind radio.
If I turn fan off, still get sound; like dampers are moving and rubbing trying to adjust. Set vent buttons to center or top and will stop for a while. Reset to auto and noise starts with or without fan on.
Last trip to dealer they claimed it would not do it; seems like the car has to be warm and outside temperature below 35F. Do the dampers work - vacuum or electrical? Don't remember the problem last winter, this year have had condensate tsb done and also had dealer replace main control module. Wondering if they could have pinch hose or some how caused binding.
So after a few months of having these springs on the car I noticed that as of recently there is a loud CLUNK coming from the front shock area. This specifically occurs in the morning while backing up out of the driveway, after the car has been sitting for a long time. This happens at low speed as soon as i turn the wheel to align with the street. To make matters worst, there seems to be a more persistent noise coming from the rear whenever i go over any sort of rough surface, almost as if something is loose . I took it to my local VW to see if they could replicate the noises and they did. I did not mention I had springs on the car (VWR), should I have ? What could be causing these issues?

View 5 RepliesJust got stage 2 tune with tbe and bhs pendulum mount. Loving it so far but there is a loud buzzing coming from the dash area every time I hit the gas. There is more vibration in the car now that will probably stir up some rattles but this one is pretty loud!! Doesn't sound like it is in the engine compartment but more like on or in the dash by the radio or climate controls.
View 5 RepliesThis time it's about my tranny. After putting on 034 motorsport track density mounts, this whining noise started coming apparent and it's pretty loud and it's coming from the tranny area. Not sure of the fact that the mounts are so stiff has anything to do with it, but here goes...
It's like a slight grinding/mechanical whine noise that happens only when in gear and under load. It gets louder as the speed/rpm's get higher and happens in every gear. Funny, but sounds like a mechanical supercharger whine that you'd get from a supercharged car. When the car is idling, there is nothing wrong/no noise.
Clutch is not slipping, power feels just like it did before, my clutch pedal doesn't get stuck nor is it hard to push down.
A few initial diagnoses from friends were that there is some sort of shaft play in the tranny or that it may very well be a synchro.
So was driving home from work today and was fairly close to home waiting at a light. Light turns green and I start to move forward (going up a moderate hill). I shift into 2nd and all of the sudden I hear a loud, metallic "rat-tat-tat" coming from somewhere around the passenger side front area of the car. Almost like a snare drum but more metallic sounding. Then this is followed by what sounds like a second or two of metal-on-metal type grinding noise. Don't feel much of anything, maybe a slight shudder. Then it seemed fine.
I was only about two blocks from home and it was driving okay so I continued on home. No warning indicators of any kind on the dash. When I got home I looked in the engine compartment and under the car for any signs of something obvious being broken. Nothing. I haven't driven the car since but I'm worried about what might transpire in the morning. It's even possible that it was one of the cars next to me and I was hearing the sound from their coming nightmare echoing off of the buildings to my right. But, it seemed like it was coming from my car, and that metallic popping sound has me very nervous. But as I said I drove it a few blocks after this and it seemed fine.
i have an 04 f-150 with a 5.4 motor. about 2000 miles ago the power steering pump started to whine really loud. I sucked out the power steering fluid and started it up and the fluid that back into the tank looked like it was gritty and rusty. I replaced it out a few times and no change. I then did the job of replacing the power steering pump which was about a 5 hour job.
It was quiet for about 5 miles and the new one started whining. Every week I have been sucking out the old fluid and replacing it and it still seems to be gritty. What could I do to quiet it down? the steering works perfect btw. I am looking at selling this truck and buying an 09 or newer ford and want to quiet it down before selling it. The truck has 88,000 miles on it and i am the original owner.
So after I start my car in the morning (it's garaged in AZ, probably 60 degrees) about 1 minute after leaving the house there is a real odd noise in the back passenger side of the car. It almost sounds like it's coming from the fuel door area.

Happens for about 45 seconds, and then it's gone and doesn't happen again. It's not correlated to the engine speed or whether the car is moving or not.
I have about 500 miles on my 2008 R32, and today I noticed while sitting in the car with it running that there was a noticeable buzzing coming from the fuel pump. It sounds like it is coming from the pump under the tank itself. Hear this coming through to the cabin? Rather loud, I wonder if this issue has already been reported with other 3.2 VR6 setups.
View 22 RepliesLately I have noticed (when driving with my windows down) that there is a very distinct "whine" coming from the transmission area when accelerating through the low gears. Best I can describe it as is a quieter version of the sound a car makes in reverse. I can't hear it with the window is up, only when the drivers side is down. The car drives normal, and I haven't noticed an issues except I can hear this noise in the low gears. Has it always been there, it's normal and I am just "tuned into it" now, or is it a sign of problems to come?
View 14 RepliesOur 2008 Honda CR-V w/120k one owner, always dealer maintained, vehicle has recently started exhibiting a little high pitch whine coming from the engine area which increases when you rev the gas. I checked the transmission dipstick and the level is just below the bottom hole (owners manual says it should be between the bottom and top hole). Would this make the whine? By adding some fluid should it go away? Is it okay to use a fluid other than Honda's?

I noticed the other day when I drove it that there was a really loud whine coming from the engine. We're both Master's students, so I'm pretty bent on not going to the stealership for anything. Would this be the belts?

Sometimes I wonder why I have this car serviced....I have a 2000 Passat V6, just had the timing belt, water pump and infamous ABS control module replaced. Also had problems with the secondary air system (I think that's what it's called??) - another mechanic identified a couple of blocked areas and repaired. So now, all of the flashing lights are gone, but there is a very high pitched whine that is pronounced when I'm turning and sounds like it's coming thru the steering column? Goes away after about 20 minutes driving - should I take the car back??
View 4 RepliesLast night around 1:00, I was awakened by a noise I think was coming from my car parked below my window. It was plugged in at the time. I heard a loud, high pitched whine, followed by a couple of knocks or thumps, then a sound like R2D2 makes when he turns his head, then a couple more knocks, and another R2D2 noise. I think I may also have seen lights flashing around the the edges of my blackout blinds, but am not sure, since I had just been sound asleep.
View 4 RepliesOver the last few weeks I've been hearing what sounds like a failing pump of some sort when shutting off my '06 GX470. The sound lingers for just a moment after the ignition is cut off, and sounds like a loud, very fast tatatatatatatata. It doesn't always do this - sometimes I don't hear anything. I've been commuting in the GX for four years and I've only been hearing this intermittent occurrence over the last 3-5 weeks.
What this might be? Fuel pump? Air leveling suspension pump?
I was letting my truck idle to work on a cooling issue when I noticed oil coming from my fuel pump! What would cause this? It wasn't coming from were the pump bolts to the timing cover it was coming out of the side of the pump it looked like? I'm going to get a new one.
View 7 RepliesWorking on my cousin's 84 F150 351w HO with a Holley 4180 4bbl and auto trans.
I rebuilt the carb because of sticking floats (that and it was filthy and sitting). It fired up and I drove it to my uncle's shop a ways down the road before even adjusting anything. At the shop, it fires right up, idles great and floats and idle mixture screws are now adjusted.
It has a dead spot right off of idle that's been driving me crazy, and stalls in gear if I'm not careful with the pedal.
After reading around here, I looked down the carb to make sure the fuel was squirting as soon as the throttle moved, and noticed there was NO FUEL squirting from the nozzles. So that explains the dead spot...
There was just the needle, then the nozzles, then the screw that went in, same as they came out (only cleaner). Wondering where to go from here to get these working again. Going to pull the nozzles off and see if there's anything obvious going on in there.
I have a noise coming from what seems like the front windshield area. It sounds like when you have a balloon full of air and open a small hole and let it out. That loud squealing noise that it makes is basically exactly the same as the noise I am experiencing.
It happens when I'm going 70mph in high winds or over 80mph without high winds. And when it happens it's constant.
I talked to the dealership and they told me it's fine... mostly because it happens randomly and it's hard to replicate unless you go 90 it always happens but they obviously aren't going to test drive my car going 90mph to find the noise.
Our recently purchased '04 V8 Touareg is increasingly sounding like a jet turbine engine upon start-up, and especially as winter approaches. We're told it is probably the DC-powered fuel pump. Any way to reduce the aural effect?
View 12 Replies...... 2010 Corolla LE 1.8L ...... View the video I uploaded ....... The noise is seems to be getting worse. My first thought is the bearings in the water pump may have failed. I'm also thinking that there isn't adequate lubrication near the gear assembly or the belt. Could there be a problem with the tension in the belt?
