Theres a loud rattling noise coming from somewhere inside the center console, where the shift lever is, that's annoying as hell! Sounds like a metal ball bearing bouncing around against other metal pieces. I put my fingers down there and touched everything I could to try to stop the rattling but I couldn't. I did not remove the foam insulation.
View 4 RepliesAbout a week ago I noticed this weird noise that sounds like it's coming from inside of the center vents area/console.
The noise definitely only occurs when moving, or at least it seems that way. At idle there is no sound. The sound seems to get a little louder the faster I go.
It's kind of a "whirring" sound. It's not really loud and if someone that had never been in the car were driving they probably wouldn't even notice it. It almost sounds as if I have the heating/ac fan turned up high but I don't. The sound appears even if I have the heat/ac fan off.The heat/ac works fine.
It may have nothing to do with the heat/ac but I'm wondering if something could have got stuck in the vents from outside?
I have a mk4 R32 74k miles on it ... I recently brought the car to the dealer and I will never do it again !!! Never had any problems until now .. I brought it in for the radio and they diagnose the problem so they ordered me a new radio that's all they looked at and it's the only time it ever went into the dealership .. Today I start the car and I have a ticking noise coming from behind the center console radio glovebox area and I can't figure it out ?? I thought it was vibration from the motor so I gave it a little gas in neutral nothing ?? I turned the radio on and off still have the noise ? Turned on an off the climate control still have the noise ?? Don't know what it is ? Friends say it sounds like a relay that's coming on and off ??
View 3 RepliesI have a rattle/ticking noise that happens when the 05 Phaeton experiences road vibration. I'm thinking about taking it apart to see what may be loose. This is the console between the two front seats.
I've narrowed it down by placing my hand on top to silence. It can't be silenced by touching the rear seat vents or power plug cover. So it seems the whole console must vibrate to create the noise.
I am 3 weeks into my 2014 ES300h, my first Lexus and first hybrid. I am hearing this odd rattling noise from the center console, it's almost like two wires touching. The noise comes mainly at low speeds and mostly what it seems like on the hybrid train.
I took it to the dealer who is saying they hear no noise or normal hybrid noise. Since this car is supposed to have a super quite cabin I am wondering if I am being taken for a ride (figuratively) .
The center console in my 2010 Prius III is making a constant plasticy creaking noise that is driving me insane! :crazy:
Is this common in the 2010 Prius? I can temporarily stop the noise by pressing down on the console.
My 2007 Santa Fe Limited 3.3L with 102,000 miles started making a grinding/ticking noise yesterday. It's hard to tell but it sounds like its coming from directly under the center console. The noise is directly proportional to the speed and if I put my hand on the shift selector, I can feel the tick vibrations. It drives and shifts fine. What it could be? I'm hoping it's not a transmission issue. I'm thinking something with the AWD connection to the rear wheels.

View 3 RepliesMy 2012 Prius makes noise in cold days. After careful examination I found the noise comes from the rubbing between the joystick cover and the center console bridge cover. If I press the joystick cover with my fingers, the noise will be significantly reduced or even eliminated. So I think if I put a layer of soft material there, I may be able to eliminate the noise. How to remove the center console bridge cover? Either pictures or video will be great.
View 1 RepliesOne of the brackets that connects the tray inside the center console is broken. I wanted to order the part but I only see the inside tray available to buy, not the brackets. I was wondering if I ordered the tray, will the brackets come with it? I don't want to order the tray and then it turns out no brackets, then I'll be stuck with an extra tray. The closest part number I see on Sewell is Part # 58801E.
View 2 RepliesIt took a long time to figure it out where this rattle was coming from, when I did i was on my road trip to Smokey Mountains, i couldn't wait to get to the dealer and just solved it myself.
Just extend the arm rest and raise it you will find a rectangle shaped plastic which moves back and forth, remove this plastic. Be careful when pulling it out, or you might end up like i did (check pic), i don't intend to put the plastic back. Center arm rest raised and extended out.

Having rattle on the right side of the center console? If so, did the dealership fix it or did you perform a DIY fix? The dealership said they tightened something a few weeks ago, which worked initially, but it is squeaking again. If I press against it with my hand (or have a passenger press their leg against it), the rattle goes away.
View 6 RepliesI know this is a long shot but experienced a rattle coming from the center vent section and have a fix for it? Normally small rattles don't bother me, and it's a VW, but it's loud enough that I can hear it over the radio, so it's particularly annoying.
I took the headunit and vent out, tried to tighten the screws that secures the structure that holds the headunit in and looked around, didn't see anything. If you apply pressure to the top of the center vent it makes the rattle go away too.
So at this point, I'll have to take it into the dealer unless someone has a found a fix for it. 3,000 miles and three problems that have required trips to the dealership /end rant
IS350 fsport. I have had the car for two weeks already and these sounds are driving me crazy. Its definitely coming from the center console area, I can even move it a bit and its makes the squeak sound. On bumps something like a little plastic pebble feels like it rattles. I went to lexus and they couldn't really do anything about it. They said its normal when two plastics come together to squeak.
View 14 RepliesThe cigarette lighter adapter inside the center console of my 2010 Prius (next to the USB/iPod and AUX plugs) does not appear to be working, although the adapter underneath the gear shifter works fine. A few weeks ago, I found some coins, which I keep inside that center console that had gotten wedged inside the cigarette lighter adapter cavity. It was after removal of those coins that I first learned that the adapter was not working (I tried a few different devices to make sure that it was the adapter itself not working).
From reading the web, it sounds like the fix may be as simple as replacing the fuse. From what I understand, the fuse is just above the emergency parking brake. If so, where do I purchase a new fuse and how much does a new fuse cost? Also, how do I know which fuse needs replacing? Is that in the instruction manual?
Suspension noise I am getting from my 2011 MD.
This noise occurs only over small shock type bumps IE, train tracks that are not smooth, those reflectors in the road, and the metal plates over construction projects. Any bump that forces the suspension over a small vertical or near vertical drop or rise of about one inch.
In my driveway I have a storm grate about an inch lower than the surrounding pavement and it rattles over this every day. Now the fun part.
The noise is ONLY when I hit such a bump with the right side of the car. The left side rolls over the same bumps smoothly and quietly.
This noise is also only present over the small type bumps discussed earlier. My dealer has a rough road that they use to test suspension noises and the car rolls down it silently. The problem also doesn't manifest itself over speed bumps.
The noise is still present while applying the brakes on which makes me doubt its a caliper float issue.
The strut brace and lower control arm/bushings on the right side have been replaced by the dealer under warranty but they can not seem to get to the root of this problem as both these replacements have had no effect.
From inside the car it is very difficult to pinpoint where the noise is coming from but it almost seems like the center of from suspension.
I have on '06 V6. This slight rattle/vibration only happens during the first 5 minutes of driving, and only starts AS am driving down a slight hill from our development. It doesn't seem mechanical. It just sounds like an interior piece is loose. It seems to be coming from the center console or passenger seat area. It doesn't happen everyday. Once I am on the highway, flat area or after a few minutes it's gone. I have shuffled everything around in the center storage area, glove compartment, seat belt - nothing.
View 3 RepliesHave a rattle of the latch on their center console door? For the last few weeks I've had the rattle I thought was the cup holders but, today I found the culprit. Its the latch hook, the part that locks into the center console. Its somewhat loose. Every time it rattles and my wife is in the car she gives me that look.
How to open the latch cover? I don't see any screws and I really don't want to experiment on a new truck. I have to take it to the dealer to fix the reverse camera but I haven't had much luck with Ford dealers addressing rattles.
I have a 2001 Ex with the 6.8, stock motor, exhaust etc and I have had a rattle I have not been able to track down. I finally crawled under it the other day with a buddy (auto body guy) and we isolated the noise to be coming from inside the tailpipe, just about where it bends by the rear tire/wheel. I ran a fish tape up the pipe and it seemed to stop right in the area of the bend. My question is there a baffle of some sort in there?
View 2 RepliesI drive a 2008 Chevrolet Impala. The car has had some electrical problems going back about a year and a few months that I have neglected to fix. The first problem was with the shifter not being able to move out of park without hitting the button inside the center console to do a shift lock override, which started last August.
The second problem was with the ignition not being able to release the key without hitting a switch inside the ignition, which started back in the Spring. I have just been rolling along promising to eventually address those, but yesterday the car radio stopped functioning. Then this morning the car would not start.
The electrical system comes on just fine (save the radio), but when I go to start it the car just clicks over. I did not leave any lights or switches on, so I am assuming it must be some sort of problem with the electrical system.
When opening the center console at night, it is obviously pitch dark in there. I know that I could turn on the dome light, but 1. i'm lazy and 2. that still does not offer a whole lot of light.
I want something that will come on when I open the lid, and then go off when I close it. I do not really want anything on a switch. So i'm thinking about setting something up like the glove box with the thing that pushes in and the light goes out, you all know what i'm talking about. I would not think it would be too hard to wire up.
