Today i went out side to warm up my car before heading out to work ... When i started my car i got out and i hear a Loud HISSING sound ??? So i popped the hood and it just got louder ?? sounds like its coming from the top of the motor and also on the left side by the belts ??? its a 2004 R32 and i just hit 80K miles?? What it could be ??

Saturn - Vue :: Loud Hissing Noise Coming From Back End

This morning when I pulled into the garage after taking my daughter to school and shut the car off, I noticed a very loud hissing noise coming from the back end of my car, underneath somewhere. When I came back out an hour later to leave for work, it was still hissing. I drove to work and all was fine, but when I went out to the lot after work my car was completely dead.

I tried jumping it, but it wouldn't even take a charge. I had to find a ride home and will get it towed tomorrow. I'm sure the hissing noise is the cause, but what's going on. My car has never given me any problems--it's run perfectly for almost 150,000 miles (5 speed manual transmission). Maybe this is the end?

Golf/GTI VI :: Loud Hissing Noise - Exhaust Leak?

I feel as though my APR turboback has an exhaust leak.

There is a loud hissing noise that overwhelms the exhaust, turbo and engine noise. What it is. Sounds like a loud hissing when then turbo begins to kick it. Not normal, and it slowly has gotten worse and more noticeable.

I have a feeling its the downpipe, but I can't check it myself. When i give it gas and the hood is open (at a standstill obviously), the engine compartment smells like exhaust fumes.

Could be playing mind games with myself. What do you all think? Any way to surely test and see? I am taking it to dealership on Tuesday to double check.

Golf VI R :: Loud Hissing Noise From Passenger Side / Boost Won't Go Over 24lbs

So for the last 2 days I heard this loud hissing noise from the passenger side of the car and also noticed that my boost won't go over 24lbs. So I called my local tuner shop Innovative motor sport in Stratford and was told to bring it down to check it out. Less then an hr later I was at the shop and we where putting it up on the ramps to get under to take a look. I took out the panel covering under the motor and looked up to find a hole in my turbo outlet coupler. Tom at IMS had an extra laying around and let me use it till I get a replacement.

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Loud Noise Coming From 4.6 Motor / Missing

I have a 2010 ford f150 with a 4.6 engine. it has developed a loud noise like a diesel on steroids and also sounds like its going to fly apart and it also misses when it does this . now this is how I have narrowed it down to make it happen because it does not do it all the time. it mainly does it to and from longer trips like 45 minutes or more then coming into traffic to a crawl or idle it will start making the noise . also when I pull into my drive and go from drive to reverse and go to back up it will also make the noise. I have no lights on the dash or codes. could this be a coil pack ? I had a coil go a few years back but it acted up under load on a hill and just missed with no noise.

Ford - Explorer :: 2003 XLS 4.0 - Overheated / Loud Hissing Sound Coming Out From Under The Hood

My Explorer overheated yesterday. Found a very loud hissing sound coming out from under the hood. Let it cool off filled it with antifreeze, started it up, started hissing again. Found the thermostat had broken. Replaced the thermostat. Filled it up again. After replacing the thermostat I found out the hissing sound was coming from the plastic thermostat housing. Replaced the housing. Again I refilled it with antifreeze.

Started to let it warm up and noticed liquid dripping out of the exhaust pipe. Checked it out. Had a green color to it. Then I noticed the coolant resivor was full up to the cap. I did not fill it up past the full line on the side of the resistor. Tried removing the cap.

Found out it had a ton of pressure under it. Bled off the pressure. Refilled it again. Did not put the cap back on. Tried starting it. Instantaneous geyser. Runs like it is missing on 1cylinder. No oil in the coolant that I can see. No coolant in the oil. Could this problem be caused by a blown head gasket of a crack in 1 of the heads or in the block?

Volvo :: 85 740 GLE Hissing Noise Coming From Near Oil Pan

My 85' 740 GLE has been having some troubles lately, A nasty loud hissing noise is coming from near where the oil pan is and it is more prominent when i apply pressure to the gas pedal or sometimes when my foot isn't on the brake or gas. The first 5 minutes or so of the drive are fine, you hear the hiss but there are no noticeable performance issues. After a few minutes the noise gets a little louder and starts to effect the acceleration tremendously to the point where it'll take me roughly 10 seconds to hit 30 mph from being stopped.

Brought the car to the dealership and have been told that it needs 2 new cooling fans. Radiator damaged and some wiring component needs to be replaced to the bottom line price of $1200. Would I do better repairing this type of fix at a non VW shop?

Golf/GTI VI :: Loud Squeaking Noise Coming From Rear Concern

Started up my car this morning and drove to the gas station. I had the car on low fuel, got the low fuel light last night but didn't have time to stop by a gas station to fill up. Anyways after I did finally fueled up this morning, I pulled out of the gas station and a very loud squeaking noise which sounds like metal on metal occurred. The noise is coming from the rear, but it's really loud, nothing I have ever heard before.

I will mention that I have Koni coilovers installed, tried to peak under the car and see if something broke or came loose but I was unable to see anything since I am sitting pretty low.

I live in Chicago and this morning was very cold. I am trying to figure out what my issue could be. I called up the dealer and he told me to drive it around for a bit and see if it goes away. Another guess would be that something got stuck between the rotor and the break pad. I have the stock break pads. What could it be?

Just noticed this about a half hour ago when I left a friends house, first time it's done it and does it every time since. Sometimes it only clicks 3 times, sometimes 5. Possibly the motor/actuator that controls the inside/outsider air valve?

Neon :: 2000 - Hissing Noise / Clunk Coming After Every 4 Seconds

So I was sitting in my wife's car and hear a clunk while the car was in park sitting in the driveway. She said it had been doing that for a few weeks now. The clunk seems to happen every 4 or so seconds while idling and is coming from the engine compartment somewhere. There is also what seems to a hissing or sucking noise that sounds like it is coming from in the dash somewhere and also happens about every 4 seconds during idle. I really haven't had a chance to look into what the problem(s) may be or if they could be connected. I am really not sure what the clunking at idle could be. I think the hissing noise is a vacuum leak I could probably hunt down when I have a chance.

Golf VI R :: Hissing (similar To Turbo Spool) Coming From Rear Of Car

My car is Stage 2+ (mods are in signature). I noticed today a hissing noise coming from the rear of the car when my music was turned off. The sound is very similar to turbo spool but I'm 100% positive it is coming from the rear of the car not the bay. The noise does not show up until I hit 3rd gear and from then up it only makes noise when I'm accelerating. Under any load the noise stays the same. I can accelerate slow or accelerate a little harder and the hissing noise remains constant. The only two things that I can think of are the flapper valve on the SPM exhaust and the rear diff. However, I don't see why the flapper valve on SPM's exhaust would be affected by a certain gear.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2000 - Hissing Sound Coming From Bottom?

Ever since I bought my 2000 mk4 golf I've had this super loud hissing noise coming from the bottom of the car. Almost like someone is spraying compressed air when your foot is on the throttle. Sound gets louder the more you depress the pedal. Had a catalytic converter code so after a few months I bought a new cat, welded it on, and the sound fairly went away. Still present, now months later the sound is now a bit louder but It's gotten on my last nerve, I want to fix it but I can't seem to figure out what that noise is.

Almost sounds like my car is a classic beetle by the way it accelerate at times. The car is sort of sluggish than normal at times, no codes, no lights, sometimes peeling out in 1st gear the car hesitates like I have regular power, then I have this sudden burst of 1 second power then back to normal until I shift then I never feel it again until I'm back in 1st and WOT it. Car does smell like gas a little sometimes, not too prevalent but nonetheless noticeable especially going in reverse. My gas meter seemed to fluctuate at times, I may have a bad pump maybe, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Theres a loud rattling noise coming from somewhere inside the center console, where the shift lever is, that's annoying as hell! Sounds like a metal ball bearing bouncing around against other metal pieces. I put my fingers down there and touched everything I could to try to stop the rattling but I couldn't. I did not remove the foam insulation.

Golf IV R32 :: Apparent Loud Whining Noise Coming From Tranny Area

This time it's about my tranny. After putting on 034 motorsport track density mounts, this whining noise started coming apparent and it's pretty loud and it's coming from the tranny area. Not sure of the fact that the mounts are so stiff has anything to do with it, but here goes...

It's like a slight grinding/mechanical whine noise that happens only when in gear and under load. It gets louder as the speed/rpm's get higher and happens in every gear. Funny, but sounds like a mechanical supercharger whine that you'd get from a supercharged car. When the car is idling, there is nothing wrong/no noise.

Clutch is not slipping, power feels just like it did before, my clutch pedal doesn't get stuck nor is it hard to push down.

A few initial diagnoses from friends were that there is some sort of shaft play in the tranny or that it may very well be a synchro.

Golf IV R32 :: Loud Clicking / Ticking Noise Coming From Timing Belt - Tensioner Looks Off

I recently had a good amount of work done to my Mk4 R32. Last night on my drive home from the stealership I ended up with a passenger headlight out and a very loud clicking/ticking noise which seems to be coming from the Serpentine belt area. After closer inspection it looks like the tensioner lines are't lined up which means my belt and tensioner need to be replaced? I'm not sure, but I have a video and this picture.

Golf V R32 :: ST Lowered Back Down And Loud Noise Coming From Front Passenger Side?

I have a set of ST that were put on a year ago. I raised them up in October for the winter. This past Saturday I lowered the car back down. As soon as I did I have the loud noise coming from the front passenger side.

I know it's not the top hats because I had that issue and replaced it and not the same noise. It is not the clunk that people associate with springs.

The noise seems to happen when spring/strut expand and retract.

Called ST today and they said if I had the car all the way down it is my fault. WTF? Why would you make a coil that is adjustable and the customer is able to go all the way down and then say it's my fault IF strut is blown?

The car drives straight and smooth so I dunno if it is blown. Could it be because of a build up of crap between the springs over winter (I saw some.)

Prius (Gen 3) :: 2011 Toyota - Hissing Noise Coming From Rear Passenger Side?

I've been noticing "Hissing Noise" coming from the rear passenger side (rear right hand side) of my 2011 Prius for a few days now. It sounds like the hissing noise is coming from the vent that's located on that side. Not sure what that does, but the hissing noise is usually present when I'm driving at 10MPH or up and it's gone when I'm less than 10MPH or at a complete stop. I have about 32K miles on the car.

GMC - Suburban :: 1994 - 30 Seconds Of Loud Clicking Coming From Blower Motor On Startup And Shutdown

First bit of cold weather and I'm getting thirty seconds of loud clicking (or clacking) coming from the immediate vicinity of the blower motor on start up and shut down. Doesn't matter whether my climate control is on or off, it still makes the noise. I'm assuming it's stripped out teeth on one of the blend door actuator gears and I'll probably just end up replacing it. My problem: Where exactly is the offending actuator? I've removed the glove box and noted one located on the left side. I unplugged this but am still getting the ratcheting sound so it obviously isn't the culprit. I had this happen a few years back (same time of year) and out of ignorance and frustration solved it with a well aimed kick but the way it's acting this time I don't think I've got a big enough boot.
