There was a really good write up on how to go about replacing the sunroof drain line on the forum, yet I'm having troubles finding it. Been using the search function for the last hour with no luck. Finding the write up I'm referring to? I do remember it has an odd post title.
View 3 Replies I bought my RS a little more than a month ago. Low and behold about two weeks later my drivers side footwell and behind the drivers seat collected about 2 inches of rain water.
I have searched far and wide and perhaps I'm missing something...My leak is not in the rear which I have seen plenty of info and a couple awesome DIY's. My leak is coming from the panels by the fuse box and hood release. The original owner had done the service to it where the nipples are cut and drained. When I poured a cup of water in the front left drain in the sunroof water comes out of the nipple as well...
My 2003 Jetta sunroof drains aren't clogged. Nor are they simply cracked. They don't seem to be connected. I tried snaking them out with trimmer line- the thing took like 15 ft of line without resistance, from either end. I suspect they had a mechanic who tried to use compressed air to blow them out, and may have blow the line off its nipple instead.
So I can't install a new, smaller line inside the old one. There's no way to fish the line from one end to the other.
I'm doing the headliner anyways. I can replace them, but I need to know what type of tubing is actually used. Plus, how that tubing would go down the A-pillars and meet up with the rubber nipple? Can that thing be pulled out from the outside of the door jamb?
Fiancee's 04.5 GLI is leaking from the sunroof drain into the front passenger footwell.
The Tubes are clear, but the front passenger drain is leaking from the upper portion of the tube. I pour water down the drain and 90-95% comes out the door nipple. The other 5-10% comes down the Pillar, and then out the bottom of the glove box.
I know its coming out of the top of the drain, not the nipple at the door because I can visually see water drops inside of the pillar.
What if I make a small plug to close off the 1 corner of the drain? I understand the correct solution is to pull the headliner and reconnect it.
BUT with the holidays and chaos of this week, would a temporary solution be to close off the 1 hole? I'd do a small delrin or aluminum plug with an oring on a lathe real quic so its a water proof seal
OR if I plug it, will the water level rise too fast inside the sunroof and pour into the car? I don't know.I think the plug would be a safe solution.....
I need to replace the fuel line that connects to the fuel rail, it is old and corroding and drips out gas when I dry so I need to replace it. I have the new fuel line for it but how would I go about taking it off and the clamps? Just wanna make sure I am doing it right.

The sunroof drain clogged on my '02 Passat and caused major damage to my electrical system. Its at the dealership being repaired and insurance does not want to pay to have carpet replaced. They will pay for the padding but not the carpet, the problem is they say the carpet and padding are one piece and both would have to be replaced. I am worried that if all it is not replaced I will have a stinky moldy smell in the middle of summer.
View 9 RepliesSomeone stopped by the shop today with a problem with the power steering leaking. I checked it out and the return line from the rack to the pump is rusted through and needs to be replaced. The pressure line looks just as bad and will develop a leak soon too, if not replaced. While chatting the customer revealed that while stuck with no power steering, he put motor oil into the reserve tank because that's all he had. It did get him home. My plan is to replace the pressure line first, then cut the return line below the car (where it can be accessed better). Then use my evacuator.
hooked to the return line from the rack. Start the siphoning and fill the reserve tank with the proper fluid to flush everything out. I figured that it would flush the reserve tank, pump, pressure line, and rack. Then replace the return line and top off the tank. Will I have to have the engine running while I flush, and do I need to work the steering wheel left and right too.
I have an 09 f350 lariat with the factory 6 disc, sync system. Problem is the sunroof drain tube on the right front kinked and allowed water to overflow the drip tray on the sunroof and down the "A" pillar. The water then dripped onto the inertia fuel pump switch and then onto the sync module. I disassembled the module to dry and coat the circuit board with dielectric spray but one of the transistors is corroded and therefore the module is rendered useless. I have contacted the ford dealer for replacement module but no luck, even with the original part number on the sync module, or as ford calls it " Accessory Protocol Interface Module" My question is: can I get a module from another vehicle.

View 2 RepliesI had my 10k service done at the dealership earlier this year, currently at 16.5K miles. My GTI was parked at my parents' garage for a week while I was away for travel. When I returned and went to move my car, I noticed a puddle of oil under the GTI. Since it was a sunday, there were no dealership service departments open, so I went to a quick change oil place and they told me that there is a leak at the drain plug. The tech noticed the oil was low, drained the oil and replaced the drain plug, and when they filled the oil, it immediately started leaking at the drain plug. They added teflon tape to temporarily work with the leak. I will be scheduling a service appointment at the dealer I had my 10k service done.
Have a MK6 and experienced a leak at the drain plug? Could this leak be due to the dealership service tech over tightening the drain plug at my 10k service? The quick oil change place did note that I came in with a leak from the drain plug, in case the dealership tries to blame the oil change place for the leak.
I have a problem today i took off the coolant line, air line, and the fuel line and when i put them back on i put the coolant line into the air line accidentally and the air line in the coolant . i started the car thinking it was normal. the car started and then when i started to back up the car turned off so i knew i screwed up the lines then i found online the right way how the lines should go put them the right way and the car just cranks in doesn't start up.
View 3 RepliesI have around 127 miles on my car and was using it as a daily for sometime for work. Due to this, oil changes were done by Kauffman Tire, work paid. Now that I am in a different role my car is not my daily any longer and I tired to change my own oil. My oil filter cap drain plug is hollowed out! I couldn't get it out at all with the 6mm Allen. I thought I would be able to take the filter off from the inside. I soon found out I can't do that. Am I stuck buying a new filter cap and plug from the dealer? Any way to get the filter off without the drain plug?
View 9 RepliesI changed my oil for the first time last weekend and all went well, except that i could not remove the washer from the drain plug. I got a new one from the parts counter along with a filter. the new washer definitely had a larger diameter than the one that was on the plug. I re-used the washer on the plug and re-checked things tonight. no leaks - so i should be OK. Maybe I'll just pick up a new drain plug next time...
View 3 RepliesIn the past week, my car battery has died twice (Sunday morning after sitting for 45min and Friday night after sitting for all day). The car (2003 Jetta) immediately came back to life once the jumper cables were attached to another car. I've had the battery and alternator checked twice both with good results. I've checked for a drain on the battery while the car is off, and I'm getting 20mA. So everything seems to be fine. Why the battery could have died twice? Is it possible that something is turning on at random and sucking the power out of the battery?

Looking for the drain plug and I can't find it for the life of me..
There is a hex bolt on a black plate that is seemingly the lowest part of the whole front-underneath, but this isn't the oil, is it? It does have a washer, that hex bolt.
It's in front of the axle, right?
Which direction does it face?
Today my sunroof tilted open all by itself while I was driving, then it closed it by itself. Then it did it all over again.
A week ago it tilted open, I closed it by moving the switch to full open, then close.
In another post ("Sunroof Problem") I found one mention of this problem and the switch was the culprit.
I had to have the switch replaced?
