How since the container is not see-through?

View 11 RepliesI recently was looking over fluids and whatnot in my 08 Camry, and the power steering fluid level was at the upper line for hot about 3 hours after I drove it (about 7pm). Checked again at noon the next day, still didn't budge. I know this is something fairly new, earlier in the year it was normal. The steering feels a little tough too. It might be me, I've been driving a 2011 Sienna with the EPS, but I don't remember it being this resistant.
Now the car has over 43k on it, and it recently had the water pump replaced about two months ago put in the the dealer (I noticed this, not the dealer), along with front struts and an oil change. Nothing mentioned about the Power Steering or anything, but it seems abnormally high. I am not sure if any of the PS lines had to be removed to do the job (water pump or struts), but if it was, it seems that it might have not been properly bleed. I did try turning to full lock a few times, to the point where the revs drop and it squeals a little (not sure if that is a pump issue either, not the drop in revs but the noise)
I am just trying to figure out why I have a high level of fluid now, and the power steering feels a little weak.
I bought an 04 F150 SCrew 5.4 3V a while back. The power steering fluid level keeps dropping. I have topped off the power steering reservoir at least 3 times in the last month and a half.
What's got me baffled is I can't find evidence of a leak anywhere. The hoses, the pump, or on the belt. I've crawled over & under it. I can't find anything anywhere.
Is there any way to check your level of the power steering fluid on a 2013 xlt 5.0,
View 4 RepliesI started to notice a slight whine when I turn the wheel. My fluid is at low but it's pretty dark and I'm not sure if it was ever changed or when. I have 100k miles. What fluid should I use?
View 10 RepliesWhere the filler port for the transmission fluid is for the v6 engine, and how do you check the level?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2011 camry, I can not figure out how to check my transmission fluid. I don't see the dipstick under the hood anywhere.
View 14 RepliesHot or cold? I just changed the fluid so should I adjust the level when cold? And with the pump off I assume?
View 1 RepliesI was wondering if there is a dipstick for checking the automatic transaxle fluid. I have searched my car and the owner's manual but have yet to find anything that addresses the auto transaxle. If I have managed to overlook it just give me a page number in the manual.
View 10 RepliesFeel stupid for asking but what is the correct way to check transmission fluid level?
Do I put the words on the end of the stick right side up, if so I need to add fluid BUT if I flip it upside down I don't need fluid
About to go on my first tow away from home trip and want to be sure
Looking for procedure how to check the level, condition and how to replace transmission fluid on 2012 Camry SE 4cyl? Is there a service manual available for download?
View 10 RepliesI would like to know how to check the fluid lever on this car I have been told there is a fill hole and that's where its checked, how this is done. I know they say its filled for life but I would like to know if its full or not...
View 2 RepliesI would like to monitor the windshield washer fluid level on our '03 Ford Taurus. Unfortunately, the fill nozzle goes underneath a piece of the chassis and I can't tell where it goes or where the reservoir is located. The manual was of no use whatsoever. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but I'm stumped.
View 9 RepliesI guess I over tightened the power steering cap (green) and the plastic broke on me. I gotta find some sort of replacement.. I know there is the Jcaps version.. Is there a part number for the oem green one?
View 5 RepliesI was driving home the other day when i heard a groaning when turning. i stopped to check the power steering fluid at O'PepZone and it was really low. i bought some fluid poured it in while the car was running. it foamed a bit from all the air but then the PSF started emptying out of the reservoir underneath the car.
By the time i got home it was groaning and basically empty of PSF again. when i crawled under the car, i saw a lot of fluid on the passenger (right ) side of the car by the subframe and a little bit by the driver (left) side of the car. the leaks seem to be from the ends of the rack and pinion. no detectable leaks by the hose/hard line connections.
Other than the leak(s), the steering has felt very good. no play to speak of and no weird sounds either.
This makes me wonder if i somehow damaged the seals when i installed my PSS9 coilovers....
We have a 2001 VW Golf w/100K+ miles and the power steering fluid's leaking. Mechanic says a new rack/pinion and steering gear is needed. The estimate is $1K which troubles us because of the market value of the car isn't great. So, in the meantime, I tried "Lucas Stop Leak" and it seems to work (when the fluid was completely empty, it was making that loud screeching noise). Seeing that this is a 2nd "back-up" car, my questions are these:
1) Is it a bad idea to use Lucas (topping it off w/VW-approved steering fluid)? We rather donate the car than than to pay for the repairs. Some internet searches indicate that a lot of people drive around with a bottle of Lucas in their trunk. That is, that they avoid the repairs by using Lucas
2) Is it dangerous to drive the car? I notice the alignment is off and that re-alignment is part of the repair job. Can I have the re-alignment done?
I removed my washer fluid reservoir and saw that I can just twist together the wires and it would keep my light off. That lasted a few days. And now the light is on. I tried soldering them to see if it was a bad connection but still the light is still on. How I can get it off?
View 5 RepliesThe brake light came on randomly yesterday, flashing foe about 5 seconds, then shut off. Hasn't come on since, but I looked at the brake fluid resovior and the level is about .5cm (.2inches) below the "min" marker.
Can I just open the resovior, pour in the fluid, recap it and go? I remember hearing from someone that if you open the resovior cap at any time, air rushes in and you must bleed the entire system before you can drive again
A few days ago I had a big PS fluid leak. Turned out the return line had been sliced a bit. I had to drive it for a couple days before I could get around to fixing it. The steering is still stiff and the pump whines. Is this an indicator that I need to replace the pump?
View 4 RepliesYesterday while cruising around, my right front tire hit a bumpy rock, it was quite a tough hit, but the car kept cruising well. I parked it one minute later and inspected it, nothing seemed wrong. After 2 hours i came back and looked under it. no oil was dripping or anything, still run well for 10 minutes. then, the steering started to ROAR.
Basically, the car was dripping and no power steering oil was left. I didn't do a full inspection yet. I brought the car yesterday on a tow truck and today is Sunday so no mechanics are open in my country.
I took this picture which represents where all the oil is dripping from. also there's a video [URL] .....
I'll be taking the car for inspection tomorrow, but i want to hear from other MK4 owners if they know where the oil might be dripping from. Ican't state if the dripping happened due to hitting the damn rock...do you think it's related?
Where to check my trans fluid level and looking for info on changing the fluid (The process). I'm pretty familiar with mechanics and changing fluids this is just my first time on this car.
