2001 GTI VR6. 82,000mi and it has some issues. Right now, the wiper fluid doesn't function but the tank is full of fluid, I found a wire cluster with a clip that wasn't even hooked up. Problem, I don't know where to connect it.
View 3 RepliesI have a leak in my rear wiper fluid line on my GTI. When I use the rear washer, I get a pool of fluid in the driver side taillight and under the rear seats. I'm getting some fluid in the rear driver side headliner as well so the break must be there. First step is to pull the headliner.
View 4 Repliesmy third brake light, hatch wiper and fluid stuff all don't work. can't really tell if defrost works either but considering the amount of damage they probably don't. there was a hole in one of the grommets leading into the hatch on my gti and they all got wet and damaged. It looks like I barely even have enough room to cut out the damage and be able to replace it with new wiring. is there any kind of product where I could just replace an entire section or no
View 1 RepliesI'm having some sort of electrical malfunction on the back of my Mk4 Gti. The right rear tail light, license plate light and back windshield wiper doesn't work. I replaced the bulbs several times and they keep blowing.
View 2 RepliesI started this string over a year ago (see below). My car continues to suffer the same problem. It now has 62,000 miles on it. I finally decided to take it to the dealership seeing as my local mechanic and 2 VW specialists could not figure out what is wrong - 2 new sets of coils, 2 news sets of spark plugs, and several expensive diagnostic tests that reveal nothing later. The dealership also has no clear idea what is wrong with the car and VW itself has not been useful either (rather useless really). No service bulletins have been posted for my car. I have tried several additives (Techron, Sea Foam) but that did not yield any results. The one thing I have noticed is that the misfiring ceases to occur when the gas tank is a little less than half full but begins to occur again as the gas gauge reaches the refill zone. It misfires like crazy when the tank is full. I am thinking of replacing the wiring harness for the fuel injectors but this is yet another best guess as to what might be wrong with the car.
I have a 2006 Jetta with a 5 speed manual transmission and 35,000 miles. The engine randomly misfires causing it to stutter or stammer. The check engine light is on and has been for several weeks. Occasionally the check engine light flashes. I took it to a local mechanic who ran a series of diagnostic tests (no vacuum leaks) and they recommended having all the ignition coils replaced for all 4 cylinders. They also replaced the fuel filter. I did so but the problem soon returned to which they referred me to the dealer. I decided to take it to a VW specialist in town and they replaced the spark plugs for all 4 cylinders. They noticed that some of the plugs were black with a buildup and some were clean.

I just picked up my new GTI a couple weeks ago and today is the first time using the wipers. The passenger side wiper doesn't work at all. I took a look at it and the wiper is different from the driver side. The wiper itself is cheap plastic with holes every inch. The connector to the wiper arm is purple. Could this be a "temporary" wiper that was installed during shipment and the dealer forgot to switch out?
View 7 RepliesRecently a couple issues have started with my car, and I'm wondering if they are known.
1) The footwell lights will sporadically switch to full bright for a few seconds. This is really annoying, especially when driving at night.
2) The wiper speed will occasionally slow down, and I'll have to turn them off and on again to fix them. (note, I mean the actually speed of the swipe, not the delay. on the normal speed, not fast, not intermittent, the wipers will physically slow down).
Both are annoying, and I'm hoping they aren't indicative of a larger problem.
Actually, anything more than a half tank of gas will produce a sloshing sound. it's most notice able at low speeds, i.e. going over a speed bump. Also, when in D at idle speed, then hit the breaks, I hear a thud then all the sloshing of the gas. The dealer just told me this is normal. I didn't hear it before the gas tank recall.

View 11 RepliesFull tank and the gauge reads empty. Has happened to me a few times. Occurs after a fillup and disappears after the car is left to sit for a while off. I would hate for this to happen on a long drive. Dealer hasn't been able to duplicate the issue. Am wondering if this might be related to the hiccup in some way. Also, am wondering if this is a fuse issue.

View 5 RepliesOn my 1993 Subaru Legacy wagon, when the ignition switch is turned on to engage the starter, normally the power to the windshield wipers and radio is cut off until the key is released. What is happening is the power to the wipers and radio is occasionally delayed by a couple of seconds up to maybe a minute or two. This is happening sporadically, maybe once every other day or so, unpredictable. What is going on?
View 2 RepliesMy drivers side wiper on my 20th likes to skip when it's used. Started a few months ago. I had put on Bosch Icon style wipers (different brand though - they happened to be about half the price of the Bosch's at Autozone so I figured I'd give them a try). They worked great for a short time. I hit rain on a road trip home and no issues for the first few hours. Then they started skipping badly out of nowhere. Kept doing it over the course of the next few weeks off and on. I got annoyed and figured it was the cheap blades. Switched back to the Bosch Icons, which I've run on my car many times the last few years with no problems. Still having the skipping problem. Its not every time I use the wipers but its more often than not. I'd definitely like to get this sorted out soon...its making it tough/annoying to drive the car in the rain.

This also happened once before about a month ago and then it came back. Last night no such luck. Everything else seems to function fine. Where to begin?

I bought the new switch, but don't see how to get it out without taking the whole steering wheel off. I can't get to the screws on it at all. I got the plastic covers off, but can't see how to get the switch out.

View 3 RepliesThe rear wiper on my wife's 20th stopped working the other day. I checked the fuse and it was fine. I pulled off the rear panel and got to the wiring. I don't have a Bentley so I'm not sure what wire does what. I tested the wires and the far left is a switch 12V and the far right is the ground. The center two didn't show any voltage with or without the wiper on. When should these wire see power? What else should I check?
View 16 RepliesI needed to get part numbers off of my TCM for my 2003 Jetta GLS 1.8T and thought that they were electrostatically welded on due to dissimilar metals. I ran into a retired friend that was a VW Tech for years and he told me that they are a tension fit to the shafts and the easiest way to remove is to grab the arm with your hand and press down towards the arm while lifting the area by the shaft.
