last weekend I was closing my sunroof and it went all the way shut, then started going back, just like your garage door does if you leave some stuff blocking the door. I stuck my hand in there and whisked around to see if there was anything blocking it but found nothing just dust. I didn't look closer because I was going down the highway 75mph at the time. Them the issue went away by itself and I left it shut.
View 6 Replies2003 jetta wagon 1.8t 106000miles with the tiptronic auto trans, has no forward or reverse, no codes, have already drained fluid and refilled, i can see the rpm gauge move when i shift from park to R to D etc, but it will not go at all, i'm thinking maybe the toque converter has failed.
View 6 RepliesMy GTI has 300 miles on it, just noticed that the auto up/down function on the driver's side window switch only works sometimes. You have to push or pull hard on the switch to get it to auto open or close. I'm assuming it could just be a faulty switch?
View 9 RepliesI got a 99' Jetta gls 5 spd. I just replaced the transmission and now the car won't engage reverse from inside the cockpit. Reverse can be engage from inside the engine bay, but when the shift knob is depressed nothing happens. Linkag cables are in the correct spots.
View 6 RepliesSo I want to remove a sunroof cover from a GTi that's being parted out but the problems are there is no power in the car. I know that you need to be able to tilt the sunroof up in order to remove the cover. So, is there any way to do this without power?
View 6 Replies2004 GLI ... Venting opens but when I turn the knob to open the sunroof completely, I can hear and see that it wants to open but it stays neutral and wont open up. I attempted the manual crank. Again, I can get it to vent manually, but when I turn the allan key the other way to fully open the roof, it will go as far as moving just below the roof line, but it will not continue to open. I'm concerned if I crank on it too hard, something will break.
View 2 RepliesTrouble shooting my sunroof. When I first go the car the sunroof would open but not close, even when I pushed in the button to reset.
I have replace/ and calibrated replace the switch now I get the fallowing.
When I put it to open all the way, it goes in to vent mode ( the back opens up), ( when i put it close it closes fine).
When i put in vent the sunroof slide back 1/4 of the way. when I try to close it closes and opens back to 1/4 open. I have to close it and press the button in to close it.
So I bought my 03 golf 2.slow about 10 years ago used and it came with a moonroof... not a sunroof. I never really thought about it and just assumed it was a option from the factory but the seals have been leaking lately and I was looking for a replacement seal and could not find anything only sunroof parts. Is this an aftermarket moonroof where they cut a hole in the roof and added this?..I really hope not. Or did someone take the sunroof assembly out and put this in its place.

View 3 RepliesMy 2003 Jetta sunroof drains aren't clogged. Nor are they simply cracked. They don't seem to be connected. I tried snaking them out with trimmer line- the thing took like 15 ft of line without resistance, from either end. I suspect they had a mechanic who tried to use compressed air to blow them out, and may have blow the line off its nipple instead.
So I can't install a new, smaller line inside the old one. There's no way to fish the line from one end to the other.
I'm doing the headliner anyways. I can replace them, but I need to know what type of tubing is actually used. Plus, how that tubing would go down the A-pillars and meet up with the rubber nipple? Can that thing be pulled out from the outside of the door jamb?
I own a 2002 GTI and my sunroof was damaged beyond repair.
A local headliner shop had a used 2004 Jetta sunroof which he sold to me. The shop owner said everything was in working order with the sunroof except the wire harness that runs to the sunroof was missing the plug since it was cut. He recommended just taking the plug from my GTI sunroof motor and soldering it onto the Jetta motor since it may throw off the "timing" of the sunroof motor and would need to be recalibrated if removed. Keep in mind he is an authorized Webasco dealer so I took him at his word.
I cut my plug off of my GTI sunroof motor harness and began to solder it onto the Jetta sunroof.
I quickly noticed the Jetta sunroof motor had one extra wire (Brown). I didn't think it would be a big deal since my GTI doesn't have 6 wires and only requires 5 so I mounted the new sunroof with the Jetta motor onto the car.
The sunroof retracted back into the "fully open" position and would close but would not go into the "vent" position. Each time I would turn the dial to the "vent" position, the sunroof would slide back into the "fully open" position.
I thought this was a bit strange and now I am beginning to wonder if I need to swap the GTI sunroof motor on my car due to it not have the extra wire or is the Jetta sunroof motor going to work fine but another issue is causing this to happen?
Below are the differences in the two sunroof motors. Both are Bosch products.
Jetta Sunroof Motor - Part Number : GDO 849 696 564
This part has 6 wires that connect to it.
White, Green, Gray, Blue, Purple, and Brown
Where as the GTI has only 5 wires on it.
GTI Sunroof Motor - Part Number : GDO 849 696 566
White, Green, Gray, Blue, and Purple
The difference between the two is the additional BROWN found in the Jetta sunroof motor.
Fiancee's 04.5 GLI is leaking from the sunroof drain into the front passenger footwell.
The Tubes are clear, but the front passenger drain is leaking from the upper portion of the tube. I pour water down the drain and 90-95% comes out the door nipple. The other 5-10% comes down the Pillar, and then out the bottom of the glove box.
I know its coming out of the top of the drain, not the nipple at the door because I can visually see water drops inside of the pillar.
What if I make a small plug to close off the 1 corner of the drain? I understand the correct solution is to pull the headliner and reconnect it.
BUT with the holidays and chaos of this week, would a temporary solution be to close off the 1 hole? I'd do a small delrin or aluminum plug with an oring on a lathe real quic so its a water proof seal
OR if I plug it, will the water level rise too fast inside the sunroof and pour into the car? I don't know.I think the plug would be a safe solution.....
My sunroof opens and closes correctly. but when in the closed position it will be sunken into the cabin of the car a few MM not sealing to the body of the car tightly. how do I fine tune the sunroof to sit flush with the body when closed? some kind of adjustment screws?

Diving along at 40mph, rpm's jump up so i let off the gas, get back in it and grabs for just a few seconds then acts like its in neutral. i put it in neutral and then back in drive. nothing, so i coast to the side of the road. get a tow back to my work. runs fine cel is on and all of the gears are lit up, as opposed to normally just the one your in lights up on the dash, reverse works normally and pulls well. Whats up with it.
Auto tiptronic, has no forward gears(acts like its in neutral). reverse works fine and pulls ok ...
I'll start this off with a few months ago, I went on a trip and along the way noticed that the car wouldn't get into gear. This happened for a few moments, and solved itself.
Fast forward to a few days ago:
So, my Golf MK4 AUTO 1.6L transmission doesn't want to shift into 4th, sometimes.
One and two are good, but sometimes I get quite a lag in between disengaging 2nd and getting 3rd also.
Furthermore, sometimes I get 4th 'semi' engaging, where the engine is revving too much to be fully in gear, but I get power to the wheels and accelerate (slowly).
I did a VAGCOM scan and got the old:
00652 - Gear Monitoring
27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
I also had a CEL on my dash, which I cleared with the VAGCOM. This removed the light, but of course the error still persists.
I've been reading around, and some people have said the issue is the TCM, but some people have had similar problems and a TCM replacement has not fixed this.
(Just btw, my TCM model is 01M927733LK).
And some people have had good results with solenoid replacements. So, I was thinking of doing a ATF flush, just because it was recommend on some posts, but won't necessarily fix the problem.
Contacted a garage to do this for me (never flushed automatic tranny before) and mentioned the VAGCOM codes, and he said this is a slip code.
So, now I'm not really sure what to do to fix it. Are the solenoids interchangeable? Am I able to switch two gears' solenoids to see if it moves the issue to another gear, proving its the solenoid?
My Mk4 GTI has a problem with the transmission searching up and down for a gear, second to third then back down to second and so on. My local dealer wants to put in a temp sensor because that's what the code says but to do so costs almost as much as dropping the transmission. He won't guarantee that will fix the issue so I am inclined to just buy a used automatic and spend the money on a complete replacement. It will probably cost me a few hundred more but seems like a better long term solution. Of course that depends on the used transmission.
View 2 RepliesSo my daughter's '04 Jetta SW 2.0 will not upshift and has the engine light on. After having it read by the local shop I have the following codes:
P0743 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Electrical Malfunction
P0743 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Electrical Malfunction
P0811 Excessive Clutch Slippage
So what to do? I read a lot about issues about the alleged poorly designed/manufactured stock "Auto Trans Valve Body" and how that seems to be a culprit of shifting issues above 150K.
1999 Jetta MK4 with only 124k miles on it. Everything is fine with the car except when the car shifts from 2nd to 3rd it is jerky/violent/forceful everything else is good with car except check engine light is on but I don't really care about that and I'll go check with autozone to see what the code is. I am able to feather the gas when I know its going to shift and I can make the shift pretty smooth. My question to all the experts is does this mean that this tranny is on its last leg or does it still have a lot of life left in it. My old Cabriolet did it for years and never was a problem.
View 5 RepliesSo, I have a 2009 Golf City (Canadian mk4.5) with the 09G 6 speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. It's at 80k kilometers and shifting fine, I can remember maybe one 1-2 slip bump a few weeks ago but that's it. Shifts in Drive, Sport or Tiptronic are smooth and forced downshifts are smooth as well. I do want to follow the US service interval of 40k miles, and of course, my dealership won't do anything with this transmission unless it's broken because "Your fluid lasts the life of the car sir!" That, of course, we all know is BS because every transmission wears, and I don't want millions little metal shards of hardened steel having a party on the inside of my transmission.
This being said, I know that you can do a pan out filter and fluid change, but your only getting about 5L of fluid of the 9L that the 09G has. Or I can pay a local trans shop to do a full flush without dropping the pan by tapping into the in/out fluid ports and flushing everything out. My worry about a flush is that it will take these little anarchist metal shards and put them in a spot where they get stuck and have an all out project X-style party with my solenoids, gears, and torque converter. And the filter still won't have been changed!
Or I do the former where I get the ECS Tuning kit, drop the pan and clean out these little bastards and put in a new filter and not worry about the last 4L of fluid that still might have some of these buggers in it...
I have an 04 jetty with an auto Transmission. It doesn't seem to shift after the first time when speeding up. What might cause this?
