This morning I went to my car started it for 10 seconds the light on my dash said stop and to check coolant, I got a ride to get some coolant filled it up, drove to work than drove home after work and the coolant level is at the same place I filled it up as this morning. What happend that it was gone last night than fine today? 03 vw gti vr6 24v ....
View 6 RepliesI've got some problems going on with my 2001 VR6 Jetta. I was driving home from my way to work this evening and all of a sudden the indicator light came on and told me to stop and check the coolant level. Within about three minutes the car was already up to about 200. I pulled over to a gas station and the coolant reservoir was completely empty. So I began to pour coolant in the reservoir and fill it up I notice I was pouring a lot of coolant so I went to the hood looked on the driver side below the bumper and water/cool was pouring out everywhere. I inspected as many radiator hoses as I could and did not find any cracks. The water seem to be pouring out from around the thermostat housing. My question would be since I don't know whole lot about cars would they crack thermostat housing because you need to have this problem?
View 24 RepliesStop check coolant light came on dash tonight. Scanned the car no code. Did a search pointed towards coolant temp sensor. Car had it replaced by vw estimate of 30,000 miles ago. I tried to see if its green top sensor appears the very bottom ring is green but top is black maybe vw's is different than ecs? Planning to do water pump, belt kit from ecs anything else i should be looking at?

Sometimes when I start up my car ( I want to say when cold, but I haven't tried after its warm yet), the coolant light and warning come up. I obviously checked the coolant, and it is a little low. But it's been where it is since I bought the car, and I haven't noticed any leaks. After I turn the car off then on again the light goes away.
The car is running perfectly fine, it's not running hot or cold. Another thing I have noticed is that my fans don't seem to be working. ( I know it's a common problem). But I'm thinking this could be the fact that it's below 0 today.
I haven't gotten it scanned yet, but what's going on; i.e., Thermostat, sensors, fans etc..
Before I go buy a Bentley manual to dig around, when should my radiator fans kick on. I had the car idling for 10 minutes, no ac or heat on, and my coolant warning light came on, it overheated. It already has a new fan switch in the radiator, and the fuses are good.

View 2 RepliesI have a very annoying "check brake light" warning popping up in my dash with a small beep every time I brake. It seems that some of the LEDs are sometimes not illuminated but in a sort of varying configuration. Is this possibly a connector issue? (where are the wires coming from?)
Do I need to replace the LED-bar as a whole or can it be mended in subunits?
When I have to work on the light, do I REALLY have to remove the entire backseat and hatshelf (as WillemBal did to get rid of a fly that was stuck there!) or are there less invasive procedures that can be performed?
Okay so recently I was driving my 2000 Jetta and the coolant temp light came flashing on, when I went to check the coolant I was surprised to discover that it was like a mud brown color, almost looks like peanut butter. From everything I have read this can be from a few things, either rust build up that is gunking everything up and oil getting into the coolant somehow. I'm pretty sure its rust build up but I was wondering what everyone thinks about this, I was also not using G12 coolant which I'm told now is the premier brand for VW's.

Keep in mind i do live in socal, were weather is not bad and the time i started this was not colder then normal times, i then parked went on with my day came back and it was fine no warning. This morning i had another light and warning come up (warmer then before) i dont know if it really is low or problem with the ecu? i checked the coolant an it is fine?

Tonight the coolant light illuminated and the mfd states the level is low. Sure enough it's quite low.Is this normal for the R? I know my MK5 GTI burned oil like crazy. Should I be concerned?
View 2 RepliesHad my low coolant warning light and message come on while driving home from work. My car is 1 year old with 30k on it, motor is hot right now and coolant is a good bit below the minimum line (will post a pic soon). I do my service intervals at 7500 miles at most and regularly keep an eye on my oil and coolant levels.
I just checked the coolant last week after an oil change and noticed it was at the bottom minimum line, it's fairly below that now. Does this call for a ride to the dealership? I've seen where people have had pumps/hoses replaced already due to leaks. Nothing on the ground from what I can tell and nothing seems to be leaking under the hood.
My coolant level keeps dropping really low underhood and the light comes on on the dash, but I went and bought coolant, opened the hood, and the level was back to normal. Where is it all going? Should I add any when it's low if it's coming back? This just seems weird.
View 11 RepliesWell i was over in eastern washington for the night for a friends 21st bday, when i went to start up my car this morning the check coolant light came on and i checked and it was about at the bottom of the bottle. Never had this happen before, filled it back up but curious if this has happened to people before? kinda ridiculous that a car with less than 5k is already low on coolant takin it in for my 5k svc tomorrow or the following monday guess ill have to have them check it out.
View 6 RepliesAfter about an hour of driving, the coolant temperature light on my 2010 GTI started blinking. The gauge never showed a temperature higher than the usual 190, including traffic and idling. Having reached my destination, I shut the car off and then back on, happy to see no warning lights at all. One dinner and some three hours later, I started back for home. 20 minutes into the drive, the car sounded three tones and the blinking light came on again.
Like before, the car drove without incident for the rest of the drive, and the light was no longer present once the car had been shut off and then on again. The owner's manual said that the coolant level might be too low, or the temperature too high, but neither of these seem to be the case. The car is equipped with GIAC stage I software and an Audi S3 intercooler.
A message appears on my dashboard "Check Tires." The pressures are OK...

View 3 RepliesHad my car since the end of december 12, now after a drive to San Diego from Las Vegas I experienced a check coolant light beeping this morning. I didn't check the fluids the day of leaving but 3 days before and everything was all good. Checked the levels and it looked like there was barely any in the tank. After I picked up some coolant from the local dealer thinking maybe I just needed to put more in don't know why I didn't have them look at it then I should have. As I unscrewed the cap after letting it sit for a while I saw coolant surface in the tank.
I thought that was weird but I said oh well let me put a bit in since it looked like it was just duno if this will sound right storing more inside the engine? Let it run for a bout 20 mins and took off. from the dealership when I didn't get the warning anymore. went driving for some bit and got the same warning when I was heading back to my hotel. now I was tripping :|. I parked the car and let it sit in a spot with n spots of oil came out and found a decent sized puddle after letting it sit for some minutes. wiped a bit of it up with a paper and it seemed kind of dirty but reddish, and it seemed greasy like.
