I have a 24v Vr6, a couple days ago i spotted some water on my garage floor. I looked in the engine bay and I saw some coolant on this metal can looking piece, it's on the passenger side of the car to the left of the headlight door and a couple inches down. I also looked all the way at the bottom of the engine bay on on the plastic shield there is quite a bit of coolant that has leaked onto there.
View 2 RepliesOk so I have an 04 Jetta 2.0 and lately it's been overheating on me. The first time it started overheating was because my radiator was cracked and leaked out all my coolant, I swapped the radiator everything was fine for a while. The second time I started overheating, I saw my primary fan was bad it wasn't spinning at all, I swapped it everything was fine for another while. I also changed the coolant temp sensor, it wasn't bad it's just because the coolant flange was leaking coolant, so I changed it a long with the O-Rings and sensor. I also changed the thermostat just incase that was the problem but it wasn't.
I don't think the fans are turning on by them selves when they have too, but either way the car still overheats when I turn on the fans manually with the A/C. I'm not sure if the coolant is circulating, as the car only begins to overheat when I come to a stop and it idles. I have a feeling it's the water pump but I wanna be sure it is before I change it. What it could be? Things that I should check for that usually go out?
I've read several reports about failed water pumps. Well, Pearl stated leaving drops of pink coolant on the garage floor a few weeks ago. I thought perhaps I had overfilled the overflow tank so I just ignored it. Finally warmed up so this morning had a look. Water pump! Pulley had lots of pink decoration all over it.
View 4 RepliesI'm fairly certain I'm leaking coolant. Below will be a pic of the reservoir as well as where it appears to be coming from. I did a search and saw it could possibly be a flange that may have failed? Other than that there wasn't much useful information. The screw in the picture was the only thing wet, and was directly above the small puddle on the garage floor. As you can see by the pic the coolant is visibly lower than last time I checked.
View 12 RepliesMy washer fluid leaked out of the bottom of the reservoir and I would like to pull the fuse because it keeps beeping it is low. obviously. I do not have a rear wiper as it is shaved so #27 fuse is out and I was wondering if I pulled # 24 if that would stop the damn sensor or if I can pull something else, maybe just unplug it from the reservoir. I find myself using it never so I wont be fixing it anytime soon.

View 5 RepliesSo I was going to change the oil today and noticed that there was coolant that leaked all over the engine. I don't know where it came but I washed it off (should have snapped a pic!), so today I will try to drive around a bit and pop the hood again to see where it is coming from.
I'm guessing it leaked from one of the hoses or something. I recently got everything changed (timing belt, water pump, new radiator) about 3k miles ago or so.
I took her offroading earlier in the week two days in a row as well and went through some rough terrain in 90+ degree heat.
So for the last couple of weeks I've been noticing small drops of oil on my garage floor. So today I took the plastic off the bottom of the engine and the carpet was full of oil.(Not Good). So I was check it out an noticed an oil return line of some sort the had drips coming off of it but I'm not sure the name of it. I know it prob sounds silly. But I can take it to the shop with out them charging me an arm an leg just to see where the leak is coming from.
View 1 RepliesBought an 07 ES350 from a reputable dealer in March 2013. Had 65k miles when i got it. Had it about 6 wks and 2400 miles and noticed some reddish leaks under the engine. Thought it was trans fluid. I was driving to the dealership to get it fixed - when i noticed the temp guage up near the red zone and the heater (was 39 degrees F out) was blowing cold air. I started to get in the right lane - when all of the lights on the dash lit up - including the "check engine" light. I was able to get over - i think the car actually stalled.
Anyway - after a tow to the dealer - it was the water pump had leaked out "all" of my coolant. At 67k miles having a water pump fail on a Lexus? Did i do permanent damage to the engine?
I have a 2012 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Premium with 41k miles on it. I am currently running full synthetic oil, and have all of my service done at the local Subaru dealership. I am not very mechanically inclined, so I don't do much of my own car maintenance. However, this morning, I noticed a small oil spot on the garage floor. I have never seen this spot before, and I am pretty sure it came from the Subaru.
Are the boxer engines (2.5L) prone to leaking oil? If so, from where? Is there a good way to confirm oil on the garage floor vs water mixed with very dark dirt on the garage floor? I tried rubbing it between my fingers, and it felt pretty slippery, so I'm guessing it's oil.
I am currently at 4k miles on this oil change, so I will need to have another oil change in about 1k miles. The oil level was a little low (topped it off), but nothing major.
So i noticed some red fluid on the garage floor where the gx parks. I narrowed it down to radiator fluid. Lower side drivers side radiator has some of this red in the corner. I don't see anything else leaking and the red drops are small. Is there something on that side that might be causing this besides radiator? A line that i cant see or noticed yet?
View 14 RepliesI have a 04' RX 330 with 92k. It has small radiator leak. If you are standing in front of the car and look below the fan on the left side of the radiator you can see a small amount of red fluid that has leaked out of the radiator. However, the leak isn't big enough that I ever have to add coolant I just top it off when I get the oil changed. Also it doesn't puddle on the pavement when parked.
The only thing I really notice is that my windows tend fog abit easier now so I assuming the moisture must be making its way into the ventalation somehow. My mechanic said its about a $700 repair. My question should I fix it and is $700 reasonable. Also I've never had the timing belt replaced would it make since do have this done at the same time as the radiator. How long will it take before it becomes a major problem instead of a minor annoyance?
Yesterday I noticed nice fresh pink stain on fresh new concrete after a 20 minute ride, after coming back to the car an hour later. When I open the hood you there was distinct smell of wetness and dampness. I'm at 16k. Also visible at the bottom, under the pulleys dried stain on the plastic shroud. The coolant level is about quarter of an inch below min.
Furthermore I noticed oil build up around plastic intake tube just next to the firewall. So far no CEL and other issues, except my compartment lid in the middle console refusing to close and fully open.
Yesterday the power steering exploded on our 2008 Lexus RX 350 spewing power steering fluid all over the under carriage of the car and the garage floor. Left a trail every where we went. The loss of fluid caused the power steering to quit working. I had no prior signs of any leaks of any kind and no noise or symptoms from the steering prior to this. Had this happened on the highway at speed, I don't know what could have happened.
Loss of steering and the catalytic converters covered in oil could have resulted in a fire and or wreck. I see on line that power steering leaks seem to be a problem with many Lexus models. I have heard that a screen/filter in the power steering solenoid can clog causing the pressure in the system to go sky high blowing the rack seals. Some have said that by cleaning the filter and flushing the system that the problem can be solved without having to replace the rack and pinion.
I have a small fuel leak (97 Legacy Brighton wagon). The leak is detectable on the garage floor under the gas tank although I'm not certain that the gas tank itself is actually leaking.
View 3 RepliesToday, the air conditioning stopped working in my 2003 Elantra. Just stopped blowing cold air. Then the engine thermometer kept on climbing. When I pulled over home, I lifted the hood and heard a lot of bubbling and gurgling sounds, and coolant fluid leaked out underneath the car.
What could be the cause of this? When I let the car stay for a while, the AC did kick back on, but only for a few moments and the thermometer kept on climbing again until I turned the car off. The fan is blowing, I can hear it, but it is obviously not cooling the engine off appropriately.
Okay so recently I was driving my 2000 Jetta and the coolant temp light came flashing on, when I went to check the coolant I was surprised to discover that it was like a mud brown color, almost looks like peanut butter. From everything I have read this can be from a few things, either rust build up that is gunking everything up and oil getting into the coolant somehow. I'm pretty sure its rust build up but I was wondering what everyone thinks about this, I was also not using G12 coolant which I'm told now is the premier brand for VW's.
View 3 RepliesFor a while i've been dealing with this problem but its low priority because I never floor my car. The car drives perfectly fine even if you hold it 5-10 lbs of boost. When it goes into 18-20lbs it wont hold.
Symptoms : Only when I floor it SOMETIMES the car bogs down and the check engine light flashes for a little and eventually goes away. Now this doesn't always happen. Sometimes I floor it and everything works fine. I don't have vag or a laptop to hook it up and see what code is thrown.
The car is a 2004 1.8t GLI
I have a 2001 jetta with a Vr6 the clutch petal just goes to the floor. No return. What's could be wrong?
View 2 RepliesReturning to the VW fold. Just purchased a 03 Jetta GL (NO SUNROOF) and after the first rain, the passengers floor board is wet. I have searched the forums and have read many threads about the sunroof drain. Where else could this be coming from? I had a BMW that would do this because the vapor barrier in the door came loose. Is this the same situation? I looked at the panel at the bottom of the windshield and it looks tight against the glass and do not see anything stuck in between the panel and the glass.
