Someone before me used the wrong thing to scrape ice off their mirror. I am having a hard time finding replacement glass for my side mirror. I only need a driver-side, and I would like it to have the convex outside portion like it does now. That said, I wouldn't mind getting new glass for both sides.

Do I have to replace the entire housing? The mirror still tilts and moves properly.
Someone knocked off my driver's side mirror the other day. I need to replace the entire thing as the metal bracket inside is broken. The parts have already been ordered and I know that in order to replace it I have to take off the door panel, but I honestly know nothing about how to do that.
View 2 RepliesSomeone broke the passenger side mirror on my '10 GTI. They broke only the glass, not the housing. Is the glass available as a replacement part, or do I have to replace the entire housing/assembly? If this is a quick cheap job, I'll do it myself.
View 10 RepliesI got in very minor accident the other day and the glass part of the passenger mirror popped out and broke on the ground. I just got my replacement glass from Amazon (I think the brand is Fit System or something). The rear tab is broke on the new part and the glass piece isn't anywhere near factory quality.
Where I can purchase an OEM replacement online? Just looking for the glass part. Also - is there a trick to snapping it back on? For some reason I cant get the top tabs to snap into place, even with the OEM broken mirror (when I tried to put it back on.

I got my spherical glass in and was all excited and ready for a 5 minute install, but no dice.
There is a youtube video that seems to remove the mirror in a manner consistent with what the mount on the back of the replacement looks like, but for the life of me, I can't find or see behind there enough to push in the arm that will release the mirror.
It just occurred to me that the little indent could be pushed or pulled depending on the mount. Looks like I'll need a hook like tool to test this theory. (The tool used in the video seems like it has a hook on it, but he's too darn fast).
How to to remove the side mirror glass? It's not in the Toyota manual book. What about the black frame that goes around it ?
View 19 RepliesI broke the mirror glass on the drivers side mirror. New glass was ordered and I connected all the parts back together. I believe I have everything in the correct place inside and the mirror snapped back into place, but the tension is not there. The mirror is very loose, and I cannot get it to tighten up.
The white bracket that connect to the new glass and snaps into the white motor is the part that I cannot get to tighten up. Do I need to add glue to this portion of the mirror?
Having problem when driving on the highway? Today I noticed the side view mirror glass shakes and moves quite a bit, while the passenger mirror appears to be rock solid. Any easy fix? I have 15k on the car - would this be something covered by warranty? 2013

Now I have used the search with a lot of success but for some reason I haven't been able to find out how to get to the bolts for the side mirrors. How do you get to the bolts to replace the side mirrors ?. I am also sure I could figure it out in time but I would rather not break anything trying to force parts off.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2000 Jetta GLX VR6, automatic, that I have been going over for my son. The passenger side mirror doesn't adjust when I shift into reverse. I moved up,(towards the top of the housing) a little. Shifted to park and then back to reverse and it moved up again and doesn't return. I have changed the mirror switch, the mirror motors, and have dis-connected all the electrical plugs on the transmission. I figured the plugs needed to be plugged and re-plugged to clean the terminals, but no luck. Is there a switch or sensor that needs to be replaced on the transmission? All the fuses are good. What needs to be done?

View 7 RepliesI've had my GTI for 2 months but just tonight I noticed some slight distortion in the passenger side of my windshield glass. It almost makes things like slightly "wavy". It would be hard to notice unless I pointed it out, but it's there. Now here's the funny thing, it can only be seen from the driver's side of the car. I sat in the passenger side and it looked totally fine. I also noticed that only the windshield is made by Vitro based in Mexico, the rest of the glass has Sekurit stamps, based (made?) in Germany. I'm wondering if this is considered normal or at least acceptable.

What is the procedure for removing the plastic body coloured housing? I am assuming that once the mirror glass has been removed the housing will probable be held in place by some screw fixings, but I'm guessing!

As I want to use the electrical mirrors to adjust my driver side mirror, passenger side mirror moves too. Is it possible that these faults caused by not coded ECU?
I connected ground wire of my LED to blue and black cable connected to the mirror and ran another wire from unit 10 in 16 pin door connector to live wire from my LED.
Are the bolt and nut holding the strut to the wheel bearing housing the only things that need to be replaced when removing the strut? Anything else I should change while I'm in there? So far I'm just doing 034 strut mounts and bearings.
View 3 RepliesAs the title indicates, the rearview mirror (that mounts on the windshield) on my MKIV Jetta won't stay on. When it falls off, the spring clip remains attached to the mounting base on the windshield. I have tried bending the spring clip outward (works until I hit a bump) and epoxying the spring clip when installing back in the mirror base (worked for a month or two).
I can't tell either from the diagram in the Bentley or from pictures of mirror bases that I found around the internet what precisely is supposed to retain the spring clip in the mirror base. I can get a used mirror base locally, but I'm just not quite sure whether the problem is with the base, the spring clip, or both...
