Recently I started leaking coolant on the driver side area to the right of the engine:
I am assuming I need to replace some part/tubing that has a leak in it, but I am not sure what any of these things are called. How to identify what leaking part here is?
So over the weekend my 2000 jetta VR6 started leaking coolant and getting way to hot. So i parked it at work and eventually got it towed to a friends shop. I haven't looked at the car since then so bear with me on the descriptions I'm giving as they are just what he told me over the phone. I'm going to try and get to the shop in the morning to check it out some more. He says I have a leak in 2 hoses that look like they are just rotted out.
First hose he says "Comes from the back of the head and is about a half inch wide. it goes into a Y and then the top half goes into a smaller hose." The 2nd hose he says "on the top of the coolant bottle there is a line that goes across the back of the firewall then comes into a rubber hose and from that hose their is a T going into other places."
Obviously that's not a lot to go on. and when I'm looking at replacement hoses at shops online I'm not seeing ones that match these descriptions really. I've been looking for a diagram or some kind of illustration of these hoses so that i can send it to him and he can figure out which ones they are but I have not been able to find one.
I bought a 2011 GTI this past March, it has about 5700 miles on it. Last week I posted about my radiator leaking coolant and what I went through to get it fixed. I got the car back last saturday and everything was fine, up until tonight. I was pulling onto the highway (no one coming, luckily), and as I went to shift into 2nd, I heard a loud bang, almost like my car backfired, and then the CEL came on and my car went into limp mode. I immediately pulled over, but it was dark and I couldn't really see much (not sure what I was looking for anyways). I was about 3 miles from my house so I drove home cautiously, but as I was driving home, I smelled a faint burning odor.
View 11 RepliesI just replaced my radiator in my vr6 jetta. I've replaced my coolant before, with this same problem,but it never affected anything and did not find any answers. But here's the deal. It filled with about 2 gallons of mixed coolant. No noticeable air bubble sounds, coolant flows back into the reservoir. I opened my top rad hose and poured coolant in also. It is not overheating. My heater is also hot, no problems there. It just seems suspicious that my car takes so little coolant, and runs just fine. I also flushed the system with my garden hose, and let all the water drain out.
View 3 RepliesOk so I have an 04 Jetta 2.0 and lately it's been overheating on me. The first time it started overheating was because my radiator was cracked and leaked out all my coolant, I swapped the radiator everything was fine for a while. The second time I started overheating, I saw my primary fan was bad it wasn't spinning at all, I swapped it everything was fine for another while. I also changed the coolant temp sensor, it wasn't bad it's just because the coolant flange was leaking coolant, so I changed it a long with the O-Rings and sensor. I also changed the thermostat just incase that was the problem but it wasn't.
I don't think the fans are turning on by them selves when they have too, but either way the car still overheats when I turn on the fans manually with the A/C. I'm not sure if the coolant is circulating, as the car only begins to overheat when I come to a stop and it idles. I have a feeling it's the water pump but I wanna be sure it is before I change it. What it could be? Things that I should check for that usually go out?
When my 2000 GTI VR6 sits for a week or two the coolant will run low. There are no leaks that I can find. No coolant in the oil. The crack pipe looks dry. Nothing from the thermostat hosing that I can see. The carpet by the heater core is dry. Nothing that I can see. The thing that is funny is I can drive the car with it 100 degrees outside in Georgia and have no problems with the coolant getting low, or any signs of a leak, smoke or smell. The head gasket and every gasket except the oil cooler and oil stand gasket were replaced about two years ago. The heater core was also replaced at the time. I gave the front pulled loose so I can pressure test the system and look more today.
View 1 RepliesSo I bought my 03 golf 2.slow about 10 years ago used and it came with a moonroof... not a sunroof. I never really thought about it and just assumed it was a option from the factory but the seals have been leaking lately and I was looking for a replacement seal and could not find anything only sunroof parts. Is this an aftermarket moonroof where they cut a hole in the roof and added this?..I really hope not. Or did someone take the sunroof assembly out and put this in its place.
View 3 RepliesToday I had planned on replacing coil No. 5 to rid myself of the rough idling and drive I've been experiencing the past couple weeks. Car is running smooth now, however, I've noticed again that coolant continues to leak at a fast pace on hot summer days.
I've always had a slight leak, about the size of a hockey puck or so if I let it sit over night. But once temps reach in the mid 80s-90s, like today in PA, the leak gets even worse. Pictured below is the amount of coolant that had dropped in about an hour span. I have attached an image and video of where I can see it dripping from. It looks like it may be a hose, but I can't tell if the coolant is just dripping on there initially from somewhere else, and then onto my driveway. I don't have a jack that I can get it high enough to check.

2005 jetta gli 1.8t automatic ( i know flanges are different from automatic to manuel) just recently found the leaking coolant flange. Can I change the flange without having to drain the coolant out of the system. my coolant is new because i recently had the timing belt/water pump etc done so its new coolant and i do not want to flush the system. also will i have to "bleed" the system if i just pull the flange of and replace it if that is possible.
View 2 RepliesI am looking at a 05 GLI 5 speed with 133k miles. I drove it yesterday and it runs fine, but I smelled coolant after I turned it off. I was told by the dealer that the turbo is leaking some, it was spooling while driving and didn't seem to do anything funny. The check engine light came on and said coolant was low when we got back, when I cranked it back up the light was out. Just not sure about it.
View 4 RepliesMy MK4 Jetta started leaking coolant recently and I'm not sure where it would be coming from. I already checked the reservoir to see if it was leaking out of there but I could not find any leakage. I've found some coolant on the right side driveshaft near the differential, there is also some on the diff. I'm wondering if this could of happened because it has been sitting on a jack stand not being driven for about 2 months. Is it possible that within that time 1 or more of the coolant hoses could have cracked or anything. And while I'm on the subject of why it's on a jack stand, it also has gone through wheel bearings twice within the last 6 months to a year. Is this normal?

From what I can tell everything is working fine except the pipes at the firewall that go to the evaporator stay warm and don't cool at all after ten minutes.
The clutch is engaging when the AC button is pressed and stays on fine.

about the blend door, that could be it haven't checked yet but does it suggest that the condenser isn't working since the pipes don't get cold?
I have an '09 Accent, with 102,000 miles on it, it is in good shape, and current on all its maintenance, however, i am leaking coolant via the radiator cap, and don't know why. It has been replaced twice, once by me, and once at the dealership after a pressure check confirmed i was not leaking anywhere else, ie: into the engine.
View 1 RepliesOn my way home from work, after driving about 45 minutes, I stopped at the Post Office. On the way out I noticed that coolant was leaking. I was able to make it home without overheating. My guess was either the water pump or a hose.
This morning I physically checked the hoses and they seemed fine. I filled the radiator with water and started the van and let it run until it got hot. I watched to see if I could tell where the leak came from. I could not get it to leak, after 15 minutes I gave up. I know it was leaking yesterday, not only did I see green coolant, the radiator was low on coolant.
What should I do to further diagnose the problem?
Yesterday i was cleaning my car and when I took it out from the garage i noticed a spot on the garage floor. Put my finger on it and thought it was oil but when i looked under the car it was red. It was a few drips on the oil pan and a few on the splash shield. I'm sure its coolant because i was missing some too. This morning on my way to school by serpentine belt started the squeal every time I let go of the clutch. Where this leak is from? My guess is that its leaking onto the belt making it squeal and slip. Its a 03 vr6 24v ...
View 1 RepliesI have an 04 gti 1.8t and last night it started over heating. I pulled over and checked the coolant and the oil but everything looked good. I let it cool down and drove it home. When I popped the hood there was a little steam coming from the coolant overflow tank but I saw no leaking. I decided to vent the pressure off the system and then I got a little drip on the passenger side close to where the inter cooler is. I can't pinpoint the leak though.
View 4 RepliesToday while I was working I walked back to my truck after finishing the job and saw a red fluid leaking from behind the front bumper, I crawled underneath and saw that it was leaking from somewhere between the plastic cover for the fan and the radiator but I couldn't find exactly where it was coming from, I drove 30 miles before I got to the job site with my ac on, and my ac was making a noise that seemed like a whirling noise but I kinda brushed it off as the condenser going bad or whatever. After I found my truck leaking I decided to drive 20 miles to the next job site but this time I left the ac off and nothing happened the temperature gauge didn't even go up, I checked underneath when I finished driving and there was no more coolant leaking from the radiator. I drove it an additional 50 miles before I got home and still no leaks. Could the bad ac system cause coolant to leak? I have a 2000 excursion 5.4L V8

Lower radiator hose has coolant leaking - Right now I cannot tell if its the hose or the radiator itself (hoping not) - I tried to take the clamp off and it broke - Any tricks to removing the hose? its on there pretty tight.... I guess if I don't want to save the hose I can rip it off with a pair of pliers but before I do that wasn't sure.
View 2 RepliesThis is strange, Had the truck for about 3000mi bought it at 147k now has 150... Any way it runs great but the radiator started leaking from the seam close to where the bottom hose is. I have since changed the radiator about a week ago 500mi a week work truck.
Now it seems to be leaking from the very same area, what I mean is the area around the hose is dry but just up the seam a bit it barely leaks, and mainly after the truck cools off at night. These radiators seem extremely low quality, is there a substitute higher quality.
Also of note mine is the 1" core, I was told there are others but they will not fit, I must agree it seems nothing else would fit due to space constraints. These radiators just kinda sit in a cradle and aren't really under any stress that I can tell so it doesn't seem as though that would be the cause.
Also of note the shop where I bought the new one took it out of the sealed box and tank pressure tested it as they do for all new sales, no leaks, I have not pulled it back out yet cause I would like to get some thing less flimsy if it exists.
My father put my f150 into reverse he says he didn't gas it. It was 2-3 feet in between the cars and the hitch went into the bottom grill below the front license plate. Coolant is leaking from the left side between the radiator and the block. Now the trucks hitch didn't go far enough to hit the radiator, or anything else I can see. I have cleaned the coolant and am in the waiting process try to identify the location. I believe that it is oozing from the water pump ( most of the coolant is underneath it), on the other hand there is coolant also by the radiator just not as much. I have the ability to fix this just not the tools. My family is going to take it to the dealer ship I just do not want them to get finagled around.
View 3 RepliesI decided to install a trans cooler since I was servicing the trans and got the pan dropped anyway. But when I cracked open the trans cooler connector(which is totally unnecessary and should be avoided completed), I noticed that I broke the trans cooler connector fitting to the radiator and now the coolant leaks badly from around the fitting. What are my options other than replacing the radiator? Would some liquid metal treatment do the magic? Or is there a way to remove and replace the fitting(I am not sure this would be possible since it looked like the fitting was welded to the radiator)?
